The current took them down the river fast and before they managed to reach the other shore they had lost sight of the spider which was chasing them along the river bank.
Paul and the girls dragged themselves onto a shore all wet and exhausted as this river crossing took all their strength out of them.
They laid there for a few minutes trying to regain enough energy to move as they weren't out of the danger yet.
The Dead breeder could find a way to cross the river and chase them down so there was no way that they could stay there for long.
They would only be safe when they entered the town as it had walls and many soldiers to protect it, not to mention the protection barrier that would stop almost any beast from entering.
Even a beast as powerful as the Dead breeder wasn't able to attack a town and survive it.
When the trio regained some of their energy they took out their tents and went inside to change as their underwear was all wet and uncomfortable to wear right now.
A few minutes later they packed up and went on their way.
Fortunately the river had brought them over twenty kilometers closer to the town that was their goal.
It was always faster to use the river but it was also dangerous as there were some water beasts lurking in the water and once they caught you then you were dead as there was no chance for a human to win a fight with a water beast in its own element.
At best there was a miniscule chance to escape but that depended on luck more than anything.
Paul,Mia and Maya were also lucky that no water beast attacked them during their desperate escape.
Paul didn't want to use the river as the means to escape as it could prove deadly to them but once he knew that the spider had found the burial pyre he also knew that it would come after them and they had no chance to escape on foot so their best bet was to escape to the other shore of the river.
The trio walked as fast as Paul could move and it was frustrating for him to be the one that slowed them down but I couldn't be helped right now.
The sun was already hiding over the horizon when they stopped and prepared a camp for the night as they didn't want to walk in the darkness.
The other reason was that the town's gate would be closed for the night so even if they got there they would still need to wait for the morning.
Also today they would be keeping watch as there was a possibility of a beast attacking.
The girls took the first watch as Paul went to sleep and they were supposed to wake him up around midnight.
After midnight passed the girls changed places with Paul and told him that there wasn't anything suspicious going on during their watch.
Paul sat down next to the fire and used a search spell to see what was going on around the camp but he didn't find anything that could pose a danger to them so he started to replenish his mana as it wasn't full even after this many hours and some sleep.
While he was cultivating he was also sensing his surroundings to detect any potential threat but it was peaceful all the way till the morning.
-This spider might have scared off the beasts from this area or we are just too close to the town and they don't have any beasts here that live this close.
Whatever the case was, it made this night peaceful and they all could rest.
When the ladies woke up,Paul was preparing breakfast for them all and they weren't happy about that as both of them wanted to learn how to cook and also they were supposed to be the servants but they never got the chance to cook as their master did it all the time and what's more he almost never treated them as servants.
Not that they were complaining much about this all but they sometimes felt useless.
-Master, why don't you let us cook?
Mia asked when they came to the table.
-I like cooking and besides ,I know that you both have no idea how to cook.
Paul said with a smile as this was not the first time that they had this conversation.
-We won't learn if you cook all the time.
Mia argued and she had a point.
-I will teach you how to cook in the future as for now you both have enough things to learn.
Paul promised.
Both girls agreed to that as they really had much to learn and lately they even sacrificed their cultivation time to learn all sorts of things and practice their new skills.
After their meal at which Paul noticed that their table manners were improving a lot ,the same with their use of cutlery.
They packed up and continued on their way.
This time they weren't tired or being chased by the oversized spider so they solved their pace as the town wasn't that far away and if Paul's calculations were right, they should arrive at the town's gate by noon.
This time Paul also told the girls to change their training outfits for day to day clothes and he did the same.
As far as he knew the guards at the gate were treating the people that were looking to be from an influential background a lot better than the normal people as they didn't want to offend someone who should not be offended.
In their new stores they looked like three nobles from powerful families. It also helped that Paul spent some time helping the girls with their hair, and he waved them into braids using the hairpins from the deceased ladies to hold them in place.
Another important thing was that they couldn't say that the girls were mixed blood goblins so he decided to tell everyone that they got poisoned and while they barely survived they looked like this now.
Both girls agreed to go along with this story and it was easy to prove that they were humans as after their seals were removed their blood turned from green to red and everyone knew that even the mixed blood goblins had green blood.
Not long before noon they arrived at the gate of the town and as it wasn't busy at this time of the day they were called by the guard immediately.
-What are your names and what is the purpose for you to come to this town?
The guard asked the questions with a polite tone as he saw that they were wearing clothes that cost more than he earned in a year.
-My name is Paul and these two are my servants Mia and Maya.
Paul answered politely as he saw no reason to not be polite when the other party was.
-Our reason for visiting is to rest and replenish our supplies.
The guard didn't question that and also he was at the bone refining stage so he could sense that all three of them were cultivators and they had bows and arrows on their backs so it wasn't strange for them to arrive here.
-Are your servants mixed bloods?
The guard asked with a bit of suspicion.
-No they are humans but they got poisoned by something a few weeks ago and barely survived it after that their skin and hair color changed.
Paul used the story he had prepared in advance.
-Can you prove that what you say is true?
The guard asked.
He wasn't rude and was just doing his job.
-Of course.
Do you know what color the blood of a goblin or a mixed blood is?
Paul asked the guard .
-It's green ,everyone knows that.
-Mia can you prick one of your fingers?
Paul gave her his knife and she used it to make a small hole in her index finger.
The red blood appeared immediately and the guard nodded at this as this was enough to prove their claims.
-The entry fee is ten cooper for a person so you need to pay thirty coopers.
The guard said after that and introduced the rules of this town to them after Paul paid the entry fee.
The guard also introduced them to an inn that they could stay at and it had reasonable prices and clean rooms as well as the shops since they would be replenishing their supplies.
Paul was happy that this guard did so as it saved him the trouble of finding everything by himself.
He never heard the guards name but he would be sure to tell the owners of the inn and the shop that he was the one that sent them so he could have some benefits for his work.
Walking away he gave the guard a few copper coins as a gift and the guard was stunned at this generosity and thanked him profusely.
