The two other ladies in the department were both betas as well. Andrew would be the first alpha in the department since it was formed. He held more status because he was also a true alpha, and Andrew had hated that at first.
Until everyone explained that it was an asset.
Unlike Andrew, most true alphas hated being involved with research. They would avoid human trials, would ignore requests, even if they were threatened. They were afraid that anyone would consider that something was wrong with them. True alphas normally had a rather toxic, unhealthy view of their secondary sex.
While Andrew didn't dodge that, his viewpoint was in a completely different direction. He hated being a true alpha because of his father, so he was open to viewing that something might be wrong with his condition and he might need help.
