Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Eva did not expect to receive an invitation from Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor. Although it was just an interview invitation because her new MTV had several candidate directors from which one would be selected, it was still a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Eva.

Eva knew quite a bit about the famous Irish singer. Sinéad had a very unique personality, loved shaving her head, had won a Grammy but refused to accept the award. Her songs were of high quality, and she was considered a national treasure in Ireland. Most importantly, Sinéad was a very thoughtful artist, so her MTVs were often whimsical, daring, and had a strong artistic pursuit. This meant Eva would have plenty of room to showcase her talents.

After receiving the invitation from Sinéad's agent, Eva immediately prepared her materials and went to the agreed office building. Upon arrival, Eva found that Sinéad herself did not come; instead, she was greeted by Sinéad's agent.

Upon meeting the agent, Eva introduced herself briefly, but the agent looked at her with an indescribable gaze. Eventually, the agent said, "Hello, Eva. Sinéad saw your short film on TV. She was impressed by your control of colors, but you're still just one of the candidates because Sinéad has high expectations for this single's MTV and wants to choose the most suitable director."

Eva nodded, "I understand. After all, Sinéad is a national treasure in Ireland; she has many options."

The agent's smile made Eva's hair stand on end, "Tomorrow is the official interview. Today, I'm here to meet you in advance and explain the situation."

Eva, with her keen sixth sense, felt that something was off, but she remained calm and said, "Thank you for your kindness."

The office was empty on the weekend, with no one else in sight except the agent. Eva asked again, "If there's nothing else, may I leave?"

"Wait," the agent said with a creepy smile, "It seems you know that a singer of Sinéad's status has many choices. She trusts me a lot, and if I say a few good words for you, I can guarantee she'll pick you."

Eva caught the insinuation and sneered, "No need, sir."

The agent persisted, "Eva, from the moment I saw you walk on stage to receive your award on TV, I was captivated by you… you're so alluring, it makes my heart itch."

Eva suddenly stood up and walked towards the door, "Sir, I hope you know what you're saying, but I'm not interested in continuing this conversation."

Just as she was about to reach the door, the agent rushed in front of her, trying to grab her hand and persuade her, "Eva, you know, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you…"

As his hand was about to touch Eva, she swiftly pulled out a knife from her boot and pressed it against his palm. The movement was so smooth as if she had been carrying the knife with her for a long time.

The agent was stunned.

D*mn, is this woman crazy? What normal person carries a knife with them?

She must be mentally unstable, right?

But Eva had already spoken, glaring at the man with all the disgust she could muster in her voice, "Stay away from me, you b*st*rd."

The agent, who had almost touched Eva's hand, withdrew it for safety, "Are you crazy? I didn't mean any harm, do you have to overreact like this?"

Eva seemed not to hear him, putting the knife back into her boot, "I despise scumbags like you the most. If you come near me again, I'll cut your heart out."

Her tone was so fierce that the agent shuddered.

My God, why is this woman so terrifying…

The agent was now fully convinced that this woman had a serious mental problem and was not normal.

But Eva ignored him, turned around, and left the office.

She fully agreed with the agent's assessment. Yes, she indeed had mental issues, and they were quite severe.

She wasn't just an 18-year-old girl who knew nothing. She knew what could happen to a pretty woman, as evidenced by today's incident.

But she loathed men intensely. She had androphobia, couldn't have physical contact with men, and to protect herself, she carried a knife with her every day since her rebirth.

See, doesn't it seem like she's mentally unstable?

It didn't matter to her; she never denied it.

Being mentally unstable also has its way of living, and she pursued her way of life.

As for the agent, she had actually turned on her recorder when she stepped into the office. She had bought these things the second day after her rebirth, just in case.

These were signs of her distrust of men. As soon as she realized she was alone with the agent, her first reaction was to secretly turn on the recorder on her phone.

This was her way of life. As long as others didn't bother her, she wouldn't interfere with them.

But when it came to men, she was always on full alert.

She hadn't mentioned the recording because if she did, she might not get to see Sinéad tomorrow. She needed to inform Sinéad about the disgusting agent, to prevent him from harming other girls in the future.

After Eva left, the agent wondered if she would go back and complain to Sinéad.

But he believed Sinéad wouldn't trust Eva. On one side was an agent she had trusted for many years, and on the other was an unknown newcomer director.

Why would Sinéad believe her easily?

He had to see Eva, make Sinéad reject her face-to-face, and show Eva the consequences of crossing him.

He felt a bit better after thinking this through.

That girl dared to treat him like that; she had to pay the price.

The next day, during the official interview, Eva arrived on time.

The agent was waiting for her at the registration desk. When he saw her, he gave her a vicious look and said, "Eva Cody, I didn't think you'd dare to come. Do you still want to complain? Do you think anyone would believe you? Today, you'll pay for this."

Eva sneered at him, "Who will pay?"

The agent, threatening her, said, "You're a lunatic. I advise you to see a doctor. Do you have a mental disorder?"

After registering, Eva didn't say another word to him and went to the waiting area.

Meanwhile, before Eva entered the room, the agent had been whispering to Sinéad for a long time, holding Eva's resume.

"This girl has no experience. I don't think she's suitable. Apart from a short film contest entry, she has nothing else. Others are more experienced."

Sinéad glanced at Eva's resume, hesitated, and said, "Indeed, there's nothing impressive in her resume, but the short film was quite good. I still want to see her."

Then, Sinéad allowed Eva in.

When Eva entered, she saw the agent glaring at her menacingly, as if he wanted to make her suffer.

Eva ignored him and turned her attention to Sinéad.

Sinéad, still sporting her signature bald head, sat there smiling and scrutinizing Eva, "Hello, Eva. To be honest, when I saw your short film by chance, I was captivated by you."

Eva modestly replied, "You flatter me."

Sinéad continued, "However, it wasn't just the long shot that impressed me; it was your kaleidoscopic colors. I think you're a master of playing with colors."

She then marveled at the colors used in Eva's shots, "I think you're the kind of director I've been looking for. You should be able to handle the vibe of my latest MTV. Can you tell me how you would shoot an MTV about an apocalypse?"

Eva suddenly said, "No problem at all, but before that, I have something I hope Ms. Sinéad will listen to."

When Eva's phone recording played the agent's voice, his face turned green.

D*mn, this Eva Cody is really insane.

What normal woman records conversations and carries a knife with her?

Her approach was self-destructive. By doing this, she also proved herself to be a lunatic. Why would Sinéad hire a lunatic as a director?

This woman had an extreme personality and mental issues.

What had he encountered?
