"You'll get lost if you don't come to me…." a soft voice grew distant with every second
A little boy fuddled under the crowded space, pushing himself through the rich smell of fabric.
"I can go by myself maa, I am a big boii" he grinned, showing his baby tooth as he clumsily moved his steps faster
Soon the lady following him was out of sight, thanks to the crowd and so, the little boy got himself to a less crowed area. The smell of gasoline was all over the place as he saw few men breathing out fire like dragons, the beautiful flame leaving a burnt smell before disappearing.
The boy excitedly started to walk all over the place, occasionally bumping into people. It was the biggest carnival he had seen, after all.
It was a cold night, breeze ringing the wind chime almost unbearable to hear. But the voices of people were even higher, some talking, some laughing while some screaming their lungs out when a trick master proceeded to cut his own hand and make it connect again.
After jumping around from the circus show to the mouth-watering food stalls, the little boy finally stopped near a huge Ferris wheel. He stared in awe, it was lit up in the color of orange as it went round, the people inside, clearly living the best time of their life.
He ran towards it, acting like riding a bike and even producing sounds of the motor. But he stopped upon seeing an even younger boy than him. He was dressed white from head to toe, his whole presence screaming luxury thought he was doing a deed completely opposite of his appearance, collecting stones and throwing it at a huge room like box! His sleeves and shoes had some mud over them but as if a small boy would care as long as his shoes were shiny! He once again rode is 'bike' and ran towards the smaller one, grinning as wide as he could as his eyes sparkled. Maybe he could get to play with him as well? The game seemed fun! He scrunched his nose when he passed through an old uncle who was screaming at another one of his friends distastefully.
"HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NOT TO INTERFARE WHEN I AM WORKING! DO YOU NOT SEE I HAVE TO OPERATE THAT HUGE THING!" he yelled monstrously, pointing at the beautiful Ferris wheel
The other lad just lowered his head "I-I-I no h-he"
"WHAT I HE?!" The old one yelled even louder than before but thankfully the boy was already far from them
"Hey! You, over there!" The boy called out but the white-dressed didn't seem to hear him but instead picked up something from the ground
It didn't look like a rock, but rather something else, clearer and transparent but yellowish, plastic bags? Was it water inside? The little one struggled to hold it and aim it on his target but he somehow managed to hit the box with it. He smiled proudly and did the same with other plastic bags.
The elder boy stopped right in front of him, preventing him from throwing anymore and grinned, staring down at the smaller boy. He frowned a little when his nose met a burnt smell but ignored it anyway.
"My turn now!" He jumped excitedly
The smaller one frowned and hid his precious treasure behind him.
"My!" he pouted, clearly not willing to play
"but-but you should share! Mom said sharing!" The elder one tried to snatch those bags from him but the kid was more stubborn than he was.
Suddenly, they heard a loud explosion, it was the box.
Both of them stared at it in horror, the fire spread across the wires at an inhuman speed. It even devoured the grass around it. The elder one was first to react by backing off a few steps. But the flames didn't seemed to be in the mood to die just yet, instead it grew higher and wider.
The boy was told by his mother that such orange ever-changing light would drag him to ghosts when he once tried to tough it, so he grabbed the stunned white boy and ran further away.
"Run!" he screamed
But soon was stopped when bumped onto something.
He fell on the ground, over the little one and looked up. It was the same yelling madman from before, he stood there, still as rock as his eyes widened in horror, reflecting the maddening flares of orange. He looked back at the Ferris wheel just to witness it in the grasp of flames, still rotating. The screams that followed were heart wrenching. The boy stared in horror, his lungs seemed to forget taking air in.
He was lifted up by the another person he had seen before but he was too scared to notice.
"Lets call help! Brother!" He shook the old man, snapping him out of stillness
He didn't say anything but nodded trembling violently. He glanced at the two kids and picked up the smaller one, who had turned as pale as a paper.
"I-I'll get them to safety, get the extinguishers. Ma-maybe it c-can help" he took the another boy in his arms as well
The other nodded.
The old man hurriedly ran towards the exit as the two kids stared at each other, too afraid to even cry, just liquid flowing down their tears. But the old man stopped when they heard a loud sound, even the ground was shaken. The boy glanced at the fire scene, the huge ride wasn't there, at least not how it should have been. It had fallen over the circus tents, sending the broken pieces flying towards the vendors. People were crushed under the ride died, if not then burned to death.
Screams surged all over the place, people started to run all over the place. One of it was the man from before, he was trapped under one of the massive seats of the ride.
The kids were almost thrown to the ground as the old man ran towards his brother screaming his lungs out.
"I'M HERE! I'M COMING!"
The boy was almost knocked unconscious but managed to shake himself awake. And he felt that he couldn't hold it anymore, his head hurt like it were about to explode and so he cried. His wails ringing louder than any other noise in his ears. He struggled and got up to his feet, and looked at the smaller one.
Suddenly, the huge entrance fell behind them missing by a few steps. Both of them flinched violently. The entrance was caught by flames as well, the whole place was surrounded by the violent flares, devouring every single thing that came in its way.
The boy in white stood up as well and ran towards the flames of the entrance. The crying one reached out to pull him but retreated his hand as soon as he saw a small opening in between the flames, thanks to the fancy design of the gate. He followed the little one, his vision still blurry as his sobs were seemed to never stop.
The little one stumbled upon something and fell, causing the plastic bag to pop and its fluid splashed on them. While on the other side, the small opening was slowly being blocked by the burning pieces of the woods from the side. The elder one took a long breath and picked up the little one hurriedly. He struggled to run towards the opening as he half-dragged the other one with him.
While they passed through the gap, his clothes caught fire. He panicked had tried to rush out causing them to tumble upon the steps and roll down. He felt a sharp pain in his head before his whole body went numb, the colors and sounds seemed to dangle in front of him. When they finally hit the ground flat, and he rolled further away from the other, his head felt warm, his vision was blurry and red.
Through the red, he saw the kid, eyes wide open. Grin spread all across the face, tears still running down his cheeks as he stared at the flares in awe.
He blinked a few times, the flame before him switching from orange to red. The place burning wasn't the once lively carnival but a house of cold wood. He still laid there, paralyzed.
Who knew time went by in a blink of eye. How many years had passed since he last experienced such tragedy? Felt so helpless?
His tattered black leather jacket was still burning, his skin was red from the heat radiated. Blood poured out on the wooden floor as his cheek pressed helplessly against it. "What a scenery…"
His head was a mess and yet he dared to stretch those bruised lips, eyes squishing into a smile before it slowly closed and he felt as though he was scattering….
