The trees, the hills, the same small cottages with their weathered, moss-covered roofs—they were all exactly as I had left them. It was as though time had stood still here, holding on to every painful moment I had endured within these borders.
As we made our way toward the town center, I could feel the anxious energy building in my chest. The thought of facing the people who once despised me made my stomach churn. My hands clenched into fists on my lap, knuckles white. They probably still remembered me as the cursed child, the one who had caused so much grief.
"Are you alright?" Magnus's deep voice pulled me from my thoughts.
