Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Agreement

Ji Ai'er didn't go to see Jien off. She just stood in a corner of the airport, looking at him. He held the boarding pass and passport, looking around. She knew he was looking for her shadow. But in the end, he still walked into the waiting room disappointedly.

All the people who should have come to see him off were present, but only Ji Ai'er was absent because she didn't want Jien to see her with a tearful face. He once said that when she cried sadly, she looked like a widow. She didn't want that.

The mobile phone text message rang. Ji Ai'er saw the message from "Husband" on it: Ai'er, wait for me to come back!

Was this Jien's request for her or her promise to wait for him? Ji Ai'er didn't reply because she knew that maybe in a few years, Jien would forget about her.

Ji Ai'er didn't know how she walked out of the airport and then looked up at the planes flying overhead. This was a plane carrying all her beauty and love, but its direction was not towards her but away from her.

Back at the Ji family, the Ji family garden without Jien seemed empty. Ji Ai'er wasn't used to such a quiet life. For a considerable period of time, Jien wouldn't be by her side shouting at her, glaring at her, and calling her an idiot and an ugly monster. This made her a little unacceptable.

Ji Ai'er returned to her room but didn't know what to do.

In the evening, Mrs. Ji came to see her.

"Madam," Ji Ai'er opened the door to let her in. "You haven't rested yet."

"Ai'er, there's something I want to talk to you about." Mrs. Ji held Ji Ai'er's hand and sat down on the edge of the bed. For a moment, she almost had the illusion that this was her mother.

"Okay. Madam, please say whatever you want." Ji Ai'er said

"Ai'er, you've been in our family for seven or eight years. Time flies. In the blink of an eye, you've grown into a big girl." Mrs. Ji said. But the tone in which she said these was very gentle, yet it gave Ji Ai'er an ominous premonition. "I discussed with the master and found a good university for you. You can register and study there next semester. We bought an apartment for you near the school. You can also live there directly in the future, which is more convenient."

"I understand what Madam means." Ji Ai'er lowered her head to hide the tears that were about to burst out of her eyes. The Ji family no longer needed her. At the beginning, she was able to come to the Ji family completely because of Jien's stubbornness. And in the future, she was leaving the Ji family because Jien went to the United States and they couldn't tolerate her anymore.

"You also know that Jien will marry the daughter of the Ouyang family in the future. You two have no future. As your elders, we don't want you to suffer any grievances, so we arranged this. This is also for your own good." Every word of Mrs. Ji was like a needle pricking Ji Ai'er's heart. She understood that this was her destiny.

Ji Ai'er nodded. She was still full of gratitude to the Ji family. She couldn't bite the hand that feeds her. She could only blame herself for not having such a fate. Jien was as high above as a prince, while she was just a humble servant who could only bow her head silently and bear it. The distance between her and Jien was not only the background but also the insurmountable worldly concepts.

Mrs. Ji told Ji Ai'er their best arrangement for her: helping her get in touch with a good domestic university, buying an apartment for her near the school, and giving her a considerable amount of money. There was only one condition: never contact Jien. In fact, she appreciated Mrs. Ji's kindness, but these weren't what she needed. After seeing Mrs. Ji off, Ji Ai'er hid under the covers by herself and let the tears run wild. The only person who cared about her feelings was on the plane flying to the northern hemisphere at the moment. Besides, no one cared about such a tiny her in this world.
