Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Fever

Because they were covered in mud when they returned to the Ji household, Ji Ai'er was harshly scolded by the housekeeper. He even said that it was because of her lack of upbringing that her parents abandoned her in the orphanage. Coupled with the afternoon's fright, Ji Ai'er fell ill that night.

In the middle of the night, she started to have a fever and talked in her sleep. When Ji Ai'er hazily felt someone holding her hand and calling her, she struggled to open her eyes and saw an all-too-familiar face. She used all her strength to try and sit up. When did Ji En come to her room? How did she not notice at all?

"Don't move! Your face is so red," Ji En said as he touched her face, realizing she had a high fever.

"I'm fine!" Ji Ai'er still struggled to sit up because she didn't know what Ji En intended to do. Usually, she had to wait until he fell asleep before she could return to her own room and sleep peacefully. Otherwise, he would always find various reasons to disturb her and prevent her from sleeping.

But tonight, Ji Ai'er didn't know why she fell asleep as soon as she lay down, and the more she slept, the more uncomfortable she felt.

"I'm going to call the doctor; you're sick," Ji En said as he ran out to make the call, his loud voice waking everyone in the house. They all got up in a panic to see what was happening.

To everyone's astonishment, Ji En not only called the Ji family's private doctor but also summoned an ambulance. He thought she was dying or something. Regardless, Ji Ai'er seemed really unwell because she felt like everything in her room was spinning.

Later, the doctor gave Ji Ai'er an IV drip, and she felt so miserable that she cried. At that moment, she desperately missed her parents in heaven. If they were by her side, they would have cared for and looked after her, never leaving her feeling so lonely and helpless.

"Such weakness, crying over this!" Ji En's disdainful voice came from the doorway as he saw Ji Ai'er crying like a tearful mess. Ji Ai'er saw him leaning against the doorframe, looking at her.

Ji Ai'er didn't want to say anything to him, nor did she expect much sympathy or compassion from a young master like him, who had been spoiled since childhood. She averted her gaze, trying hard to stop her tears from falling.

"Stop crying. At worst, I won't bully you tomorrow," Ji En said, feeling a bit sorry as he saw her looking so pitiful without fighting back. He walked over and wiped her tears. Ji Ai'er, however, was startled and felt a jolt, like his touch was electrifying, and reflexively avoided him.

"I'm not crying," Ji Ai'er stubbornly said. She thought she must not cry in front of Ji En; otherwise, he would definitely use it as a reason to mock her for being a crybaby. He never had much empathy for her.

"I'm going to sleep! You don't need to accompany me to school tomorrow. Just rest well at home," Ji En said, then left and closed the door. At that moment, Ji Ai'er almost felt it was an illusion that Ji En could be kind sometimes.

The next day after school, Ji En rushed into Ji Ai'er's room as soon as he got home. He really wasn't used to not having her around.

"Tomorrow you still have to come to class with me. I'm not used to no one carrying my school bag," Ji En said. This was his way of expressing himself. Whenever he faced Ji Ai'er, he always expressed his true feelings in the worst possible way.

At that moment, Ji Ai'er really wanted to hit him. Because before this, she had thought Ji En was actually not so bad, but it turned out to be completely her illusion.
