I never got the pear in my last life, I was too naive to look for it
It was always said in the rumor of that pear: when you see the tree that fruits it, you will realize
I spot a forest about 20 minutes away from me.
Its trees are so tall you could mistake them for hills, the grass is a hunter green
The trees are so packed together, the most trained archers couldn't see through it.
The forest is hypnotizing me and telling me that pear is there
My body subconsciously guides itself to the forest
As I traverse the forest, I notice the damp grass below me, the forest is completely void of natural predators, and I spot glimpses of wisp scattering across the path trying to lead me somewhere
As my steps start to compound, I feel my weak body giving out on me, but the wisp encourage me to continue my journey
In a couple of moments, I spot a tree completely different from the rest.
It's height a fourth of the other trees
The tree is no closer than 10 meters to the nearest tree.
Its bark is nothing like I've seen; it's as soft as feathers, but I can tell it's as tough as steel with no eroding on it. The bark is a deep gamboge yellow.
The leaves color is window like. The leaves take the form of silk and exudes a faint white aura.
As I spot the lone pear on the vertex of the tree, I feel as something jumps on my head and I see a monkey climbing towards the pear.
The monkey is about 61 centimeters in length, its teeth are like those of a Jiangshi
I have no time to waste though as I see the monkey grasp the Bartlett Pear.
I ask
May I have that?
The monkey doesn't budge and as if he's trying to taunt me, he slowly moves the pear closer to his jaw with a shit eater grin engrained on his face.
I will not let a simple monkey deter my plans
"Heng Heto, have you ever wondered what separates men from monkeys."
Huh? Is it because we're the top of the food chain?
"No, It's Perseverance, the unwilling desire of humanity to attain their goals"
I pounce towards the monkey with all the force my feeble legs can muster
I feel my bones snapping, and the pain of my connective tissues ripping does not matter
I must stop this monkey
The wind breezes against my skin as I pounce towards the monkey
I'm now just centimeters away from the monkey
The monkey beats his chest , challenging me
My arms do not work neither do my legs
I have no choice, but to maul this filth
In a flash, my canines digs into his rotten flesh
It as if he was cursed by Wen Shen
The monkey writhes in pain and claws against my back
I can feel my spine vibrating with each attack that the monkey musters
The monkey's blood starts flowing into my mouth
His blood is the night sky
The monkey with his back against the wall, snaps his mouth open like an alligator
Before the monkey closes his jaws on me, I noticed his jugular is exposed
With all the energy I have left, I gnaw at his jugular, blood gushing out of it like an unforgiving tsunami. It paints my face, but I continue my attack. This monkey will not have that pear
The monkey cries intensifies, in a desperate attempt to get me off him he digs his claws into my back, but slowly his voice dies out so does his grip.
Blood pours out from my back as I haste-fully grab the pear
Not wanting to bleed out, I rapidly tore my stained white garments and stuffed them into the wounds on my back
Thump!
My body gave out as I fall flat on the ground, and my eyes are as heavy as a boulder
As my consciousness starts to fade away, I start to see hallucinations of something divine
His silhouette is tall, his hair luscious and long spanning past his hips, his stature is like that of chopsticks, and he clads a black hanfu with white linings.
All I see with my clouded vision is his crimson red eyes invading mines.
His eyes are like that of a tiger stalking its prey.
My consciousness finally subsides
