Chapter 3 - chapter 3

"Aghhh"

Lying on the floor, Vayne woke up restlessly.

The snowflakes falling on his face and the chill in the air made him come to himself.

He sat up abruptly, his eyes bloodshot, and surveyed his surroundings.

He was alone. There was no one else around him on a flat terrain. The moon cut the ground with its sharp shards, making it look more ghostly than it was.

Vayne looked at where he lay, covered in black soot. This ash-filled area was reminiscent of a city that had just burned down.

Here and there, cobblestones worn from the snow could be seen. Vayne raised his head a little and caught a glimpse of the bright flames that outshone even the moonlight in the darkness of the night.

He realized that where he was was a city.

Every corner of the city had been destroyed and reduced to ashes. Through the ashes, Vayne saw a mansion on a hill stretching towards the center of the city.

The mansion was in flames.

Suddenly the moon fell to the horizon and was replaced by bright sunlight.

Vayne squinted and was stunned by the brightness of the sun.

As the moon lost its light, it disappeared into the clouds.

A new day was dawning.

Vayne was surprised once again as the sun illuminated everything.

The scale of the destruction was incredible.

Something similar to the destruction of ancient cities overnight had happened to the people who lived here.

The snow retreated, revealing the old road. Cold chills ran down Vayne's back as he realized that there were human bones on the ground. A moment later, the bones were gone and in their place were small piles of ash.

[Magic welcomes you, prepare for your first test.]

"What....what the fuck?"

In confusion, he locked onto the voice echoing in his mind.

He was in magic now and that was it.

He was left in the middle of the ruins of a destroyed city.

A dull ache radiated from her bleeding feet as she shivered from the cold. Her thin tunic was almost useless against the biting wind.

'What kind of situation am I in?

Every attempt at magic had its own context of cause and effect.

As illogical as the situation was, Vayne knew it wasn't that illogical.

It was just that everything felt so alive.

He didn't know if this space was completely real or if it was because of magic.

As the sun slowly rose, Vayne had only one place in mind. Usually the only way to complete a spell was to destroy the source of the magic.

The most prominent place in your environment was said to be the place where the spell began and ended.

Vayne's attention was caught by the stone mansion opposite him in the ash heap, which looked like a bright torch.

Vayne paused for a few seconds at the sight of the house in flames.

"It shouldn't be that easy, should it? I mean, all I have to do is walk into a burning house. "

The black-haired boy walked through the ruins towards the mansion. As he climbed the hill, he once again saw the wreckage of the destroyed city behind him.

It was a city in the middle of a seemingly endless plain.

There were no trees or plants around, just a long plain of burnt grass.

As he approached the mansion, Vayne studied the ash-black walls. So many experiences were reflected on the walls. People's blood looked like unique paints on the black walls.

A moment of carelessness on Vayne's part would be his death. He had been paying so much attention to the surroundings that it seemed impossible for him to find a living person in these seemingly dead ruins.

Forgetting that this was not a sightseeing park but a test of magic, he ended up seeing only a beautiful view.

'Focus Vayne, you are in a spell. There are all kinds of creatures here waiting to kill you. It just hasn't shown up yet.'

Vayne quickly picked up a stone from the ground and started walking slowly with it covered in soot.

He was walking stealthily close to the wall of the mansion.

Fighting against an unknown would be his worst choice.

If Vayne knew in advance what he was going to fight, it would help him take precautions against it.

After some progress, Vayne reached the door of the mansion.

The wooden door of the flaming mansion still looked like the first day. Was it made of a non-combustible material. But its appearance was clearly wooden.

'Magic sometimes surprises me.'

Vayne thought.

The scenes with the flames coming out of the windows made Vayne think. He had to get inside, but it could be a trap.

The first magic trial was a different test for each mage. Some were tested on their courage, others on their intelligence. It all depended on what each person felt they lacked.

Vayne held the stone tightly in his hand and slowly opened the wooden door of the mansion.

As he entered, Vayne's mind was instantly cleared by the environment he encountered.

There was not a single flame inside.

Everything looked extremely luxurious and clean.

Vayne took one step inside and the outer door closed with a loud bang.

*Küt.

The young boy jumped up in fear.

'damn it!'

His heartbeat quickened as he surveyed his surroundings.

There was a large table in the center and on it was a candlestick with 7 arms. 6 of the 7 candles in the candlestick were lit, but the candle in the center was not lit. Vayne walked around the table without touching anything.

As she left the first room she entered, she was greeted by a wide hallway. As the sunlight passed through one wall and hit the other, Vayne began to walk down the brightly lit hallway. All he could hear in the mansion were footsteps.

As the end of the hall opened into a huge room, Vayne realized that this was the hall of the manor.

Supported by 4 large pillars, the center of this structure was completely empty. Medieval armor lined a path around it.

At the far end of the room a large throne faced the door through which Vayne entered.

Vayne stepped nervously into the room.

As footsteps thudded loudly on the marble surface of the room, Vayne paced the room with anxiety and fear.

The interior of the flame-filled mansion was quite hidden. It was so strong that Vayne sometimes forgot that this was a test.

This feeling lasted until the door to the room creaked shut.

*Grrrrr

"Here we go again."

There was a strange restlessness inside Vayne.

Where...

Where...

He kept looking around, searching for danger. He held the stone tightly in his hand, but he had no idea if the spell would work against the creatures it would bring.

Vayne began to hear strange voices in his head. It wasn't as clear as the spell had told him. It sounded more like broken letters.

Vayne put his hand to his left ear and tried to cover it in disgust.

But the voices wouldn't go away.
