Chapter 34 - Alex Is Mad

A corrosive ball of goo hit the game attendant in the face.

"Oh, god, why?" he said, rolling on the ground. "What have I done to deserve this?"

"Heal him," Alex said to Amirilia as he started running in the direction the goo came from. "And anyone else who needs it! No one dies tonight!"

Alex lied. The aliens would die. Looking across the square, he saw the aliens coming out of the grass. He quickly shot sixteen spikes at them. They put up forcefields and the spikes bounced off them.

Those were strong forcefields. He broke his own forcefield with one of the spikes once. Alex came up with a new plan. Get rid of their forcefields. Or better yet, crush them with their forcefields.

[New skill created: Compress]

Alex focused on flattening the aliens' forcefields. All of them were crushed, except for the white one. Its forcefield was too weak. It broke before it could crush the alien.

Alex was about to choke the alien when it disappeared. He looked around. It was behind him, about twenty feet away. It must have teleported. These white ones were turning out to be more versatile as time went on. Weaker, but more versatile.

It shot something out of its hand that was sparking and had smoke coming out of it. It lobbed it at Alex. He didn't know what it was but he wasn't going to take chances. Alex put up his forcefield and made it as dense as he could.

The object hit the ground near Alex's feet, and it exploded, launching Alex into the air. The world spun and twisted as he flipped through the air and landed on his back.

While the skin-tight forcefield was great for movement and holding weapons, it didn't dissipate force as well as a larger one did. He would have to keep that in mind for the future.

At least he didn't take shrapnel damage and the shockwave didn't hurt him. He just got flung through the air, which in the grand scheme of things wasn't so bad.

When he got up, another explosive was flying at him. This time Alex dashed away before the explosive hit. He was far enough away to not take any damage when it exploded.

He flew up into the air to try to get above the white alien, but the white alien flew up with him. It grappled him in the air and tried punching him, but Alex had his forcefield up.

It held onto Alex and he was hit with a blast of fear. Alex immediately put a psychic shield up. Now it was his turn. Alex punched the alien off of him.

The alien fell for a little bit until it started flying again. Alex realized what it was doing. It was switching between powers. It couldn't hold more than one power at a time like he could.

That gave him a severe advantage. Alex flew at the alien and uppercut him higher into the air, then he flew at him again and did the same thing again and again until the alien was too high up to be able to do anything except maintain his flight.

Alex grabbed the alien by the collar and punched him in the face a few times. That was enough to knock the alien out. Alex had a choice. He could drop the alien and let it die, or he could set it on the ground.

But that would just cause a problem he would have to deal with later.

"Sorry," Alex said as he let go of the alien. It hit the ground with a sickening crunch.

Alex flew over the field to see how close the other groups of aliens were. A couple groups had already broken through the grass and were attacking people in the square. One group was still making its way through the grass.

He had to hurry over there before it was too late. Alex flew over to the closest group as fast as he could, which was actually pretty fast. He landed in front of the group of blue aliens being led by a white alien.

Activating telekinetic body, Alex dashed up to the white alien and turned the forcefield around his hand into a blade.

[New skill created: Blade Hand]

He plunged his hand through the white alien's chest and pulled it back out, letting the alien drop to the ground. Alex ran up to the nearest blue alien and performed a diagonal slash with his hand.

He cut halfway through the alien's head before it stopped and he pulled it out. Another one down. Dropping the psychic shield, Alex picked up the remaining four blue aliens with telekinesis and choked them into unconsciousness.

They fired at him and a couple hit, but the balls of goo slid off the forcefield harmlessly. After they were all unconscious, he grabbed a gun off the ground and fired a ball of goo onto all of their heads, letting the acid eat away at their flesh.

Alex looked back at the town square. People were running and screaming and falling down. Chet had engaged the other group of aliens and was cutting through them like ribbons.

He had done the smart thing and taken the white one out first before it could fear blast him, and then it was just a matter of dodging corrosive balls and telekinetic blasts.

The telekinetic blasts were admittedly difficult to dodge since it just looked like a ripple in the air coming at you and was hard to see, but Chet was doing a great job, thanks to his super speed.

Chet stabbed the last alien twelve times in the back, wiped the blood off his knife on one of the alien's jackets, flipped it closed, and put it away.

Alex looked toward the part of the square where the last group of aliens would eventually break through, but they hadn't yet. He looked around and saw Amirilia healing someone.

He looked around for injured people, but everyone seemed to be fine. They were all running away, which he assumed they wouldn't be able to do if they were dying.

Chet saw Alex and ran up to him. "How many are left?"

"There's just one group still making their way through the grass over there," Alex said, pointing. "It looks like almost everyone has evacuated relatively safely. I'll go see if I can take out the last group before they make it here."

"Ok," Chet said. "I'll just hang out here."

Alex took off into the night sky. He flew over to the last group of aliens. They didn't see him. With it being this dark out, they wouldn't be able to unless they were using night vision, which the blue aliens didn't seem to be able to do.

The white one probably could, but it was too busy burning through the last of the grass. The white ones seemed able to use all the psionic abilities, just at a weaker capacity than the blue ones.

It made him think there were probably other colors of aliens that specialized in different abilities.

Alex slowly lowered himself until he was just above them, and then he activated cone of lightning. All of the aliens were fried by his attack. They weren't expecting it, so they didn't have forcefields up.
