Chapter 24

"Long time no see, Karan," I said as I shot him in his leg. He screamed in pain but I didn't care. He deserved to die.

"Was life good with me gone? Considering it was me who built all of this?" I asked as I shot the other leg of his.

You see me and Karan here have a long history. We were best friends from elementary to high school. And when we left for the life of the wrong, of course, we stuck together.

So we started a drug delivery ring and we raised it from the ground. It was nothing to be proud of and we were just a group of small-time boys doing delivery services.

But then, my best friend Karan decided to dip his fingers into the lucrative business of human trafficking. All kinds of it, child, women, sex, prostitution, and even organ trafficking.

I wasn't a saint but even I drew line when it came to innocent people. I had no problem gutting a guilty person but I wouldn't sell even that person. Then how could I sell an innocent person? So I declined all of it but the rest of my friends didn't share my view. They sided with Karan and they drew me out. After all, killing me would be a straight-up ticket to lifetime jail.

"So, how was it?" I once again asked after I received no reply from Karan. Probably because he was still screaming in pain. I didn't learn everything from Murim. Some things I learned here as well. And one of those things was the existence of a friend.

This is the very person whose family was at the risk of being deported but I asked my dad for help. I used to share whatever I had with me with him because he couldn't afford it.

Yet, he stabbed me in the back. I wanted to kill him so much even before I went to college but alas I couldn't. I was too weak back then. But I wasn't anymore. The reason I killed those on the outside was also because of this. They were all my friends at one time.

"Tell me, Karan. Was it fun selling those people?" I asked as I knelt in front of him.

"Khu—Hehehe—Hahahaha!" Instead of answering me, Karan began to laugh. He didn't lose his laugh even when in pain.

"You---You still believe that life is important. Only your own matters. Everyone else is just prey." Karan said.

"No, I don't believe life is important. None other than my own. I would kill anyone in a heartbeat if it threatened my survival. But I wouldn't sell them. No matter dead or alive." I replied.

"Then… you're an idiot. You fail to understand… understand how helpful they are to the world." Karan replied.

"I see." I said simply before I added, "Then I will make sure your father's body parts help a lot of people. Your mother and sister also help everyone relieve their tensions. Isn't that what you used to say? Relive tension." Karan looked at me in rage.

That was it. When it came to his own family, he hated the idea. I did too and that was why I never sold anyone. Karan did.

"Goodbye, Karan. My old friend," I aimed my gun at his head and shot him, killing him without any further ado.

I heard the reload of a gun and turned to look at the guy who had brought me here. He was aiming his gun at me.

His hands were trembling; he was a newbie. I looked at him and asked, "Do you have a family?"

He trembled even more. I guessed that was my answer.

"Get out of here. That's my final act of mercy to you," I said before I stood up and made my way to the safe that should be inside the basement.

I heard the drop of a gun and then footsteps leaving behind me. I calmly returned the Qi to my core. I entered the basement and dialed in a bunch of codes but unfortunately, it didn't open up.

I couldn't leave the safe here so the only option I had was to take it with me. Well, taking it with me would be impossible even given my strength.

So I waited. I waited for the rest of my buddies to return. In the meantime, I cleaned the mess from the outside so it wouldn't attract any attention. Everyone would have to return at six in the evening so I didn't have to wait for much longer.

They began to return one by one and I began to kill them one by one.

I skimmed over the barrage of notifications as I touched the safe and it disappeared in my inventory.

I was happy as I left. I made sure to clean up properly because that was my first murder in this world. The laws of this world were a little tough. Even my father's influence wouldn't be able to keep me out of jail for murder.

That was also why I hadn't brought my car here. Bringing a car would leave a trace. On foot, I could have been anywhere. There were no cameras in this area of the downtown so there was nothing to worry about.

Now there was just one more thing to do about all of this. And that was to hand over all the data to the police. It would be detrimental to Karan's family and the families of the rest of them, but that was the only way I had to put a stop to those businesses.

I read the ledgers and it looked like Karan had really expanded the business. Now he was running a full-blown brothel, and supplying organs to the black market.

Even if I had killed all my buddies, their number wasn't just that much. Now I would love to kill all of them for the sake of my level but that big of a murder wouldn't be good for me. It wasn't like this was okay either but at least the police won't pursue me in the foreseeable future. I wouldn't be their priority.

"I take it you have my ID?" I asked the lady in the suit who looked at me as if I had wasted her time.

She took out my ID and said, "Get lost."

"What? No apology?" I asked.

"If you think Daddy will save you from this, then you're wrong. I will lock you up if you stay here for one more minute." She said, threatening me.

Someone was angry. Well, as a wise man once said, 'Never poke a sleeping tiger' and who was I to do that to this tigress who looked like she would chow me down in one gulp?

"Sure," I replied and left the station. But not before I approached a kid, gave her some dollars, and said, "Want to do me a favor?"

"What?" She looked at me and asked. She didn't look like an innocent kid. More like very clever for her age.

"Give this to the lady inside. Her name is Carol." I said while pointing at the police station.

She looked at me skeptically but nodded and said, "It will cost you extra."

I was right about this kid. So I gave her another ten-dollar bill. She nodded and went inside. I also didn't linger and scurried away.

I didn't want the detective lady to see me. That would be a lead. Well, giving the information to a kid wasn't exactly smart either but it was the only option that wouldn't leave a trace.

I arrived home by eight. Mom was preparing dinner but unfortunately, she wasn't wearing her tight pants but a loose trouser so I couldn't make the outline of her ass.

"Oh, honey, you're back. Why don't you wash up so we can eat soon?" She informed me about dinner.

I nodded and took a shower. After that, I ate dinner, an uneventful one. After that, I returned to my room and opened the system inventory first and foremost.
