Chapter 2 - A Dream

The book felt connected to me. As I reached to touch the floating book, it opened and its pages fluttered. Then I feel extremely drowsy suddenly. My consciousness fades away.

When I open my eyes again, I'm floating in another space. A space of color on a background of dark blue and purple.

As I look around, pages fade into sight. I see moving pictures on each page. Each one a different movie.

I didn't realize when I started walking on air, but I am. I walk as I gaze at the gallery of pages.

I start to reach out to a page close by. It shows the surface of the moon. Once my hand is outstretched, I blink. The scenery changes, and now I am standing on the moon. Although, I realize that the ground is too soft. I reach down and feel it.

"What is this. It can't be."

I break off a piece of the ground and lick it, "It's cheese!?"

I know that the moon isn't made out of cheese. This is ridiculous. Where am I."

"Yipee!", I hear a distant voice.

I look at the source and see a younger boy in the distance. A boy jumping high, falling slow, with cheese in his hands.

My thoughts begin to click.

"Book of the Dream. Am I within someone's dream?", I ask myself.

Then a white doorway opens up behind me. I see the space I was in before beyond it. I take one last look around before stepping through.

Back in the space, the pages show up again. I try going them. I get excited when it works. The white doorway opens up on mental command too. I see different people with every page I touch. Various dreams.

"Is this space the dreamscape then?", I think to myself.

I keep exploring until I suddenly wake up. I wake up in my bed too. I lost consciousness in my room, but not on my bed. Must've sleepwalked to bed.

Besides feeling my energy being restored from a good rest. I have a new feeling on top of it. A feeling that makes feel full, more powerful. It filled a space within me I never knew could be filled. I had the desire to get more of this new energy.

"Haagh, I could use some water. I'm thirsty after waking up.", I say to myself.

Then on my nightstand, a glass cup of water fades into existence. I blinked my eyes, then rubbed them to make sure I'm not imagining things. I felt that the energy I had has decreased greatly. I lost 90% of my energy.

"Perhaps I did imagine it...?"

That doesn't make any sense though. Things can't just come nothing. I reach out and take the glass of water. It is solid, and I pick it up. I hold it to my mouth and take a sip. The water is real, slightly chilled, and refreshing.

"It is truly real...", I murmur.

I get off my bed and stand. I then pinch myself in the thigh.

"Ouch.", it is real.

A smile forms and it gradually becomes wide. I've become a Super. I've joined the club of the few. Now my prospects are endless.

Because of the importance of Supers to the country. There is a Hero Association(HA) center in every single village, town, and city. The USA and HA work together closely to make sure no Supers are missed.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia. A big city with hundreds of thousands of people. There are multiple HA centers in the city.

I asked the caretaker of my orphanage to take me there. He easily agreed as he doesn't do much anymore with his age. He leaves teaching and other roles to younger people. He just oversees. Which is why he could take me right after the classes ended for the day.

The drive to the center only took 5 minutes.

We entered and I went to go get tested. It was a quick test. Blood samples used to be needed. Now only a few scans is required to identify if a person has superpowers.

I got scanned and eagerly awaited the results.

The HA doctor came back and reported that nothing was detected. I held out some hope that it could be magic. Although more rare, a human can use magic. That scan was came out negative too.

I wasn't disappointed, but confused. As I knew I could do super things, but the scans said I had nothing special to me. I could only conclude that my source of power is completely different.

The caretaker gave me some comforting words I accepted. When we got back "home", I went to my room to think.

Since my powers couldn't be detected, I'm a bit unsure on what to do. I could demonstrate them and have them verified that way. I could keep my power to myself and continue to go down my path of being a Supporter.

What would be the best for me?

This question was in my head during dinner and when I went to sleep after.

"What should I do?"

I drifted off into sleep and found myself in the dreamscape again. This time, my senses were different. They developed from what they were. Now I can feel this new energy all around me. It fills up the entire space.

I try to manipulate it like I unconsciously did in the real world. It was difficult to move it at all on my first attempt. It got easier as I continued to try. I wanted to make a floating light. Something simple like that to begin with. It took more practice, but I made the light. All I had to do, was take control of this energy and imagine that I wanted to make it. Making things based on imagination sounds incredibly strong to me.

Although this light isn't real. As I'm in this dreamscape.

"Here, I can use this surrounding energy to create things within the dreamscape. Awake, I can only use the energy left within me. How much do I get when I sleep?"

The new space inside of me is slowly getting filled with energy. It is a trickle into a barrel.

"Can I turn the trickle into a flow?"

I consciously try to absorb more energy. No special technique, just imagination. It works and the trickle becomes a steady flow, like a faucet.

I pay attention until my energy storing space is filled. Then I turn it back into a trickle. The space grows, but I feel a tension. Before it feels dangerous, I stop the trickle. Then I just wait in the dreamscape to see any changes.

Over time, the tension goes away, but the space retains its new size. I trickle more energy until I feel tension again. Then I stop and let the tension fade. The new size remains again. Now I know how to increase my capacity.

"Calling this energy, energy is too messy. I should give it a name."

A befitting name that would roll off the tongue.

"Ah, I'll name this energy Dema."

I kept practicing expanding my capacity until it becomes 2nd nature, as breathing. Then I will go dream seeing again.

I will spend as many nights as I need on this. As it is the basic abilities that make strong foundations for any Super.
