Lim Nahye swallowed hard, taking a small step back as if to put some distance between them. She glanced around nervously as if hoping someone might come by and interrupt the conversation, but the hallway was mostly empty.
There was no one to save her from the confrontation.
"I—I made a mistake," she said quickly, her voice shaky. "I thought I saw something, but I didn't. It wasn't anything. I just… I ran away because I was embarrassed, that's all."
Lee Hyun's gaze hardened. He wasn't going to let her off that easily. "You left your wallet behind, didn't you?" he asked, his tone pressing. "You dropped it when you ran away."
Nahye's eyes widened in shock as if she hadn't expected him to know that detail. Her grip on the bottled water tightened, her knuckles turning white.
"I—how do you know about that?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Did someone tell you?"
"No one," Lee Hyun said, his voice cold. "But you just did."
