Chapter 19 - Private Auction

Brandon stood silently, his eyes taking in the scene around him. The naked bodies, the drugs, the unbridled hedonism - it was all so foreign, yet now it was his world.

Brandon's mind reeled as he absorbed the scene around him.

'This isn't just a party; it's a world unto itself,' he thought, his inner voice tinged with awe and unease.

'A peek into the reality of the 0.01% who stand atop the world, one that exists beyond the reach of laws and societal norms'

Brandon felt a strange mix of fascination and unease settle in his gut.

'And now… I'm apart of this reality.'

The realization crashed over Brandon like a tidal wave, leaving him breathless.

He was no longer the outsider pressing his nose against the glass; he was inside the gilded cage, a part of this exclusive, hedonistic world.

Pierre's words echoed in his mind, and he found himself nodding imperceptibly,

'He's not wrong, though. Hierarchies will exist as long as civilization does — invisible but ironclad.'

His gaze drifted to Elise, poised and untouchable amidst the chaos.

'I fought my way out of one world, now I stand amongst a handful at the pinnacle of another...'

The thought sent a shiver down his spine, not of fear, but of... Anticipation? Excitement? Brandon couldn't quite pin it down.

Music was his passion, his driving force. But this - this world of power, privilege, and unspoken rules - was now an inseparable part of his new identity.

He couldn't ignore it, couldn't pretend it didn't exist.

To do so would be naive, dangerous even.

On stage, Pierre's demeanor shifted abruptly after his proclamation.

Gone was the intimidating figure who'd just laid down the law. In its place stood the cheerful, enthusiastic MC, his smile bright and inviting.

He clapped his hands together, the sound echoing through the room.

"Well boys and girls, let the auction begin!"

With a flourish, Pierre stepped off the stage, making way for a stunning woman in a form-fitting dress.

Pierre sauntered back to their table, sliding into his seat as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. The contrast was jarring, his ability to switch personas unsettling.

Joyce leaned across the table, flashing Pierre a thumbs up,

"Never thought a fatass like you could be this cool."

Pierre's response was swift and playful. He stuck out his tongue and flipped her the bird.

Turning to Brandon, Pierre's tone shifted to one of admiration.

"Man, that was badass! The old you would've never laid a hand on anyone." He chuckled, shaking his head.

"That smack? Pure gold. You've changed, B. In a good way."

Brandon grinned, reaching out to fist bump Pierre's bicep.

"Nice work up there brother."

Pierre flexed playfully, his chest puffing out with pride.

"What can I say? It's in my blood."

Brandon chuckled, shaking his head at Pierre's antics.

He turned his attention to Elise, who stood a few feet away, her eyes fixed on the auction unfolding before them.

'Ughh… Screw responsibilities, you only live twice once' Brandon mused.

He moved behind her, close enough that his breath tickled her ear as he whispered, "You ok?"

Elise spun around, her eyes locking with Brandon's. A spark of defiance flashed across her face as she placed her hands on his chest, giving him a light push.

"I'm no damsel in distress. I can handle myself."

Brandon's hand shot out with lightning speed, catching Elise's wrist.

His grip was firm yet gentle, a paradox that mirrored their complicated budding relationship.

As he held her gaze, the world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the electric current of their connection.

"Remember, you belong to me now," he said, his voice low and intense.

"And you're mine to protect."

Elise's cheeks flushed, her composure momentarily shaken by Brandon's bold declaration.

She blinked rapidly, struggling to find her voice. Her hand trembled slightly in his grip before she managed to pull it away.

"I-I... W-we should focus on the auction," she stammered, turning abruptly back toward the stage.

Brandon chuckled softly at her uncharacteristic shyness, finding her flustered state oddly endearing. He took his seat, a smug grin playing at the corners of his mouth.

Joyce caught his eye from across the table, her expression positively devilish. She waggled her eyebrows suggestively, clearly having witnessed the entire exchange.

Brandon fought the urge to roll his eyes at her antics.

"You. Are. A. God!,"

Dev whispered, leaning in close with an awestruck look on his face.

"This stays between us for now yea?" Brandon said, scanning his group of friends.

Pierre leaned in close to Brandon, his voice low.

"Relax, no one worth worrying about is here today. But you know, B, you're playing with fire there."

Brandon raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"What do you mean?"

Pierre glanced at Elise, then back to Brandon.

"Our Big Sis, the Ice Queen isn't just known for her looks and cold shoulder. She's got quite the reputation."

Pierre chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Last guy who couldn't take a hint? Let's just say his family had a series of very unfortunate accidents. Completely unrelated, of course."

His voice dripped with sarcasm, sending a chill down Brandon's spine.

Elise wasn't just a pretty face in their world of elites. Even though she was but a year older than Brandon, she was a force to be reckoned with. She wielded her influence like a scalpel - precise and devastating.

Her cold beauty masked a razor-sharp intellect and an ruthlessness that could make even the most powerful men quake in their custom Italian loafers.

At the age 19, she had already managed to blow past the gatekeepers of the jewelry industry.

In span of just two years, she'd carved out a name for herself and her brand in an industry that didn't exactly welcome newcomers with open arms..

Brandon swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing visibly.

"Damn," he whispered, more to himself than anyone else.

His gaze flickered between Pierre and Elise, suddenly seeing them both in a new light.

A small voice in the back of his mind wondered if he was in over his head, but he quickly squashed it down.

'No,' he thought, squaring his shoulders.

This was exactly where he wanted to be.

The auctioneer's voice sliced through Brandon's thoughts like a silver blade.

"Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on this rare specimen! We assure you, all necessary permits are in place. Delivery can be arranged to any location worldwide, no questions asked."

Brandon's eyebrows shot up.

On stage, a massive cage loomed. Inside, a majestic white lion paced. Its piercing blue eyes surveyed the room with regal disdain.

'A live white lion? I didn't even know that was a thing...?'

The bids echoed through the room, rising rapidly.

$200,000...

$300,000...

$450,000...
