Chapter 1 - Leap of Faith

Bored, very bored. The feeling I am feeling right now, is extreme boredom.

My Latin teacher keeps yapping on about what's originated from latin and whats not. I only took this class for the credits anyway. Not like I'm going to pass the grade though.

My teacher pushes his glasses up and looks at the board, reading a pre-written presentation.

"Sometimes words in English aren't Latin originated at all, for example: Eversor Is the word for destroyer in latin. Completely unrelated right? Well that's the-" My latin teacher immediately stops and stares at me, in shock.

?

Did I do something wrong? Why is-

*CLANG*

Did my table just fall into a ... portal-void thingy infront me? It getting bigger too. Should I leave my chair and escape?

Is this a dream? Am i able to- aaaand I'm already falling.

Strange, it doesn't feel like skydiving. No feeling of air slamming onto my body yet I can breath. The chair I'm sitting on ca-

?

my- m-my chair just dissapeared into the void. yet I'm still in the sitting position, I can't seem to move, but I could move a few seconds ago when i was on the chair.

Strange, I feel as if ... I don't know what I'm feeling but something is definitely coming.

I'm not nervous, I feel strangely calm. Like the calm before the storm or something.

My mind is r-ripping apart, I can feel my soul mending and expanding into s-something.

I'm not calm anymore, not at all. It doesn't hurt but it's, wrong. This feeling, it's all wrong.

Something injected those incomprehensible letters into my mind, something great. It even waited until I finished my line of thought.

Those letters that popped in my mind t-they were some sort of instructions. Not meant for me but meant for something inside me.

That thing inside me, it's changing into something foreign.

Is it my soul? My soul is bec-becoming something else, Or so I think.

Im- I'm not h- Ꮒ- human. It's, hurting my mind. I can feel myself, molding into s-something big. Something immortal. A d-dragon.

Dragon?

Yep, I'm a large scaly thing with wings, definitely a dragon.

The wings of the dragon, or should I say my wings flop onto the ground. Huh, that's neat. Fell into the void as a human and landed as a dragon, the portal above me closed though. I Heard it close with a ethereal zap. You know I might-

...

Nothing huh?

Im unable to move literally anything in this new body of mine. Not like I'm extremely tired, I can tell my body is completely fine I just. Can't move anything, I dont have control yet.

This, this must be a dream. I'm definitely going insane right now, right?

Well then, either way, all I can do right now is wait in my limp, giant scaly body. I mean, I can almost feel my toe now. That's an improvement from 10 seconds ago.

Have I already gone insane? Why am I talking to myself? Why is there a screen infront of my ey-

...

There's a transparent screen infront of my eyes.

[DRAGON LORD SYSTEM BOOTING UP]

Huh, so I have a system. And it appears in the form of blue boxes too. Generic but, atleast I'm not some talentless peasant. Actually, I'd probably rather be a systemless peasant then this thing.

Dragon lord huh? That's cool, although. I am definitely pretty small, way too small for a dragon lord. Or so I would assume. Maybe the trees around me are just really-really big.

You know, this isn't so bad. Maybe, while it's booting I could- nah, I can't move anyway so what's the point.

I guess I'll just chill, vulnerable. With valuable scales and organs 'n stuff that I assume is valuable in this obviously fantasy world.

Oh god.

What if it isn't a fantasy world? What if its a futuristic society that guns me down immediately? What if humans and animals don't exist and the planet is just like the patch of forest I find myself laying in stretching out for miles?

What if- wait, wait. I gotta calm down. I should just stop thinking and go to sleep. Maybe tommorow when I wake up the system will finish booting. Why is it even "booting" anyways? Will it eve-

Damn my overthinking mind. I guess I'll just, shut my eyes and wait for the dragon equivalent of sleep. I won't be killed in my first few minutes of being in a fantasy world right?

...

Right?

*A tavern in a nearby town, 1 hour later*

"Its great that you killed that dragon. Although if you were to finish up we have a question to ask." A group of 4 young men asked a clearly tired yet burly old man like they were interrogating him, or more accurately nagging him to finish his story faster so they can ask his something else.

The old man, irritated shook them off.

"Look, I dont know what you guys think but those dragons. They were simple mindless beasts that needed to be put down. I tell ya every day im happy that they got wiped out."

One of the men wearing light metal armor with an oversized sword on his back interrupted the man.

"Look sir, we agree completely. Buuuut we are kind of in a rush and need to ask you-"

The old man, offended and slightly ticked off stopped him with his hand and began ranting.

"All this stuff about dragon magic and immortality is crap. Don't know why you and yer lot are so obsessed with studying them. Frankly, all these youngin's prancing around with hundred year old dragon scales on their armor and mages with dragon hearts as staff cores sicken me. They weren't giant beasts. The one I killed wind breat-"

Suddenly one of the young men, wearing nothing but light leather armor interjected.

"Wait wind breath? Dragons don't have wind breath, only juvenile or lesser drakes have wind breath. About how tall was this drak- I mean dragon."

The old man smirked for a bit, seemingly happy that he had a chance to boast a bit.

"Well it was about triple my height, so around 6 meters I suppose. Mean as a goblin and as fierce as a redbear."

The group of young men looked at eachother unimpressed. Until one in a red robe looked the old man and spoke as if he was delivering sad news.

"You didn't fight a dragon, you fought either a juvenile drake or a lesser drake. Both are C-class monsters- which are veeeery strong I just want to say and we are, so so honored to be with ... uh with such an uhh"

The red robed man stops, thinking of something to say that won't offend the clearly drunk old adventurer with a big ego.

"a-Acomplished, yes acomplished adventurer such as yourself. but we will stop anno- i mean, bothering you now right guys?"

The red robed man turns towards the group. And they all nod in agreement.

The old man, caught off guard opens his mouth to speak but just decides to turn his head away and continue drinking.

The group of 4 scurry back to their table seemingly disappointed.

"Dude!" A man in light leather armor with scales on it points at the red robed man.

"? What do you want Gus, Why are you pointing at me" He says offended.

Gus looks at the red robed man obviously displeased.

"You know why I pointed at you. This whole time you've been dragging us along for no reason!"

Gus gets worked up even more just speaking about his thoughts, barely resisting the urge to shout.

"Suddenly you start acting like oohh I'm the Great Draconic mage Godefroy, we can't just continue on to the capital to continue our studies. I can tooootally feel the presence of a reaaaal dragon here with my new fancy drake heart staff and expensive fire proof red robe. We HAVE to embarrass ourself's and grab our stuff 'n leave the wagon AS we are halfway to the capital in the middle of the road."

Gus pinches his nose in anger

"I mean really? There being a dragon in some random forest near some small town. I'm not the mage but seriously. They are all DEAD for gods sake. Its probably some wyrm in a hot spring or something."

Godefroy, trying to defend himself speaks up.

"Look I'm telling you I can feel a draconic presence. Not some drake or wyrm or group of kobolds it's STRONG, and LARGE! So large I can't pinpoint anything but it's general location. Look Melvin and Morgan agree with me, right guys?"

Melvin, the one wearing light leather armor simply shrugs "Look, if you are sure that there is a draconic aura or feeling or presence thingy then I- ... I trust you."

Morgan, carrying a large greatsword on his back sat hunched over in his seat so the sword on his back doesn't pierce the couch thinks for a moment before speaking his mind.

"Me too but, Gus has a point, we did leave the carriage out of nowhere because of this presence you're feeling. Unless we trek out into the forest on some wild goose chase the-"

"That's it!"

Godefroy suddenly half-shouts.

"We trek to the forest to search for the draconic presence! I know its there for sure. And the closer we get the more I will be able to pinpoint its location."

Melvin and Gus look at eachother before reluctantly nodding in agreement.

"Fine, me and Melvin will follow you to the forest."

"But if there's nothing, I am never going to speak to you again." Melvin adds.

Godefroy smile and stands up to leave the tavern, signalling Melvin and Gus to follow.

Morgan, confused and nervous try's to reason.

"Guys, if there is this presence shouldn't we like make a request at the guild and offer a reward as long as you hand in the body or something. We can't handle a full dragon if what you feel is true. We had to run away from a Juvenile Wyvern just last month"

Godefroy smirks.

"You're going to come with us either way."

"And why would I do that?"

"Because your greatsword is piercing the chair. And I forgot my coinpurse on the wagon so we have no way to pay the bill, plus I gave your adventurer card as proof that you are above 18. So if they see you alone and unable to pay, they'll ask to see it again and send the bill to the guild for compensation. And we all know how that'll end for you."

Morgan slumps in defeat and scurrys off with the others to the forest.

Unknowing of the fact they are being led to the last of all dragons, the dragon lord.
