I'm Link, Silver Wing Fox. You know how they say you only get one life? Well, this is my second life.Â
In my first life, I was a high school student in Canada, living a completely ordinary day. The kind where you go to school, chat with your friends, take classes, go home and play video games, eat dinner, take a bath, and go to bed. At least, that's how it was supposed to go.
One day, a magic circle was above our heads in the middle of the classroom. I don't know what else to call it. Not only that, but it was expanding by the second.
Although I was staring right at it, I was so dumbfounded that there was nothing I could do.Â
Even if I had been able to take action, it probably wouldn't have changed what happened… The magic circle flared up in a brilliant explosion of light; I felt intense, terrible pain, and then I died.
Then, inexplicably, I was reborn as a baby.
At first, I thought I was reborn on Earth, with everything seeming the same. That was until my new mother, a tall, voluptuous, athletic woman, took me outside. Unless I'm misremembering how Earth was, I didn't recall Earth being an extrasolar moon of a gas giant with five other moons. This planet is also covered in an ocean.Â
As the years passed, I learned about my new life in this new world. First, the planet I was born on is called Ocean Dawn, and the race and the queendom I was born into are called Chozo. The Chozo race are monotremes that superficially resemble normal humans with extended life spans. All Chozo have bangs that look remarkably similar to feathers but are not avian.
Chozo age differently than humans; they develop slower. Four years for a human is like one year for a Chozo. A Chozo at 16 would be like a human at 64.Â
How was it? Reasonably good. I wasn't born into a noble family or anything like that, nor did I get overpowered cheat skills; I was just your average boy. If it weren't for one thing, this world would be like a more advanced, developed Earth: that one thing? Magic.
Magic in this world isn't like in most fantasy stories, where magic allows the user to shoot fireballs or make water out of thin air. In this universe, magic is like a power source that allows someone to operate vehicles such as cars, airplanes, trains, ships, and spacecraft.
Most sentient species have this crystal organ in the body; this organ, like a second heart, can generate magic.
I was born without this crystal organ, so I can't operate any vehicles, but that isn't a real problem; I can still use day-to-day devices. By the way, the queendom doesn't value having a lot of magic, so I did not face any discrimination.
Remember when I said my name was Link, Silver Wing Fox? That was my name when I was a boy, but now that I'm a girl, my name is Linkle.Â
How did a boy turn into a girl? Long story short, my school had a Princess from the Carsarh Gereulacr Empire.Â
I didn't know why she and other Carsarh Gereulacrs were at my high school; honestly, I didn't care; it had nothing to do with me.Â
That was until the princess, Abriel, confessed to me, but I turned her down. My reason? I didn't want a girlfriend then, but this was a mistake.Â
After Abriel left, some of the Carsarh Gereulacr students didn't like that I turned her down; in Carsarh Gereulacr, if a higher status confesses to someone of a lower status, they must accept no matter what.Â
So the Carsarh Gereulacr students beat me half to death; if it weren't for the janitor and an experimental gene therapy treatment that changed my body into that of an alluring high school girl, I would have died again.
After my body changed, I stopped going to school because I couldn't take the looks of my male peers, seeing me as an object of their desires.
Nowadays, I spend my days as a shut-in, playing games and watching anime—or this universe's version of anime—although I still attend online school or go for walks.Â
But that is about to change.
