Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen: School isn't a Place for Space Monsters

As the Mothership crashed into Earth's atmosphere, it came to a stop in midair before colliding on top of the middle school. School buses drove off as the parents watched with fascination from what remained of the school. Looking out the window of their spacecraft, my parents and I peeped through. Looking bewildered and shocked with dismay. Mrs. Hey and her teacher friends gathered around the Mothership.

They were in human form, but as they started to glow and float under the flying saucer determined to crash on them any moment. Grabbing hold of each other's hands, the group of teacher monsters teleported and got beamed up inside the Mothership quickly.

Inside the Mothership, kids from the middle school were chased by the aliens. I tried my best to defend both of my parents. But they didn't want me to get involved with this ambush. "Sorry to crash your little party," Mrs. Hey sneered. "We're going to make middle school nothing more than history," she said. Grabbing hold of their necks, the teachers pulled off their fake human skin. And showed they were actually space monsters!

"I knew y'all had secrets, but this is stupid!" I snapped. Mom and Dad and I watched as kids got dragged by their hair as they forced them to control their spacecraft. "Why do you want to eat middle grade students? That's just...unhealthy!" I sobbed. Mom and Dad protected me as much as they could. Trying not to let the aliens get in our way.

Mrs. Hey didn't respond right away. Our lizard friend hurried to her, rolling a purple egg covered in veins. Bending down to pick it up, Mrs. Hey petted the alien lizard. Before it could, it sneezed and scampered away. Shrugging, Mrs. Hey and the others gathered around to examine the purple egg. It started to glow.

Dad and Mom started to snatch the egg out of her reach. When suddenly, the egg hatched. And out popped a purple, a gremlin-like alien. It had wings, teeth, covered in slime and it wanted to make them miserable. Flapping it's wings, the gargoyle scratched and clawed at Mom and Dad's faces. "Stop!" Before I could protect my parents, the gargoyle snapped it's snout at me.

Hissing and hypnotizing me like a cat preying on a mouse, the winged creature started paralyzing me. Moving my jaws to speak, I couldn't even cry out for help. Mrs. Hey and her teacher friends snorted with laughter. Mrs. Hey yawned, smiling and they started to walk away from us.

Grabbing out a mirror from her space suit, Mom jumped in front of me. The angry gargoyle blinked and tried to look away from the mirror. It shot out a beam of light from the creature's eyes, and it shattered Mom's make-up mirror she held. Looking disappointed, the flying freak of nature grabbed hold of Mom. Knocked Dad and me aside. And flew out of our way, Mom screaming for help.

I started to help Dad stand up, when suddenly the spacecraft started shaking and vibrating badly. Dad and I started to glow and we were teleported elsewhere without hesitation. We found ourselves in the next room. Dad and I noticed Mom was hanging upside down, tied up in an empty chamber.

Looking around, Dad and I noticed we were alone. "What are they doing to you, Mom?" I asked, as I walked over to her. She shrugged as Dad untied Mom's gagged mouth.

"I don't know, but I'm super scared!" Mom answered. "Who knew space monsters would destroy humankind without giving us mercy?" she said. The chains tied around Mom's ankles weren't coming free.

Dad rolled his eyes. "They're aliens, love," he explained. "They seem to think Earth is a good place to stay," I said. "We got to make sure they're welcomed and do what they say. The more we struggle, the harder it will be for them to unleash their alien abilities to make our planet more attractive," Dad said.

I don't know if aliens were doing us any good. How can they not want to be here? Then, the door slid open, and Mrs. Hey and the other teachers arrived. They carried more monster eggs in a nest she held out to us. "I'm happy to tell you humans, there are more surprises to help fatten you up, Monty. We need our kids to be ready for our feast. Most of the children are taken away from here by another space shuttle. Leaving Earth, so they can take part in our feast festival," Mrs. Hey said, holding the nest egg.

We watched as the eggs started to hatch. The purple shells started cracking. Backing away next to Mom, the eggs broke and hatched! Unleashing more baby gargoyles at our attention. The five teacher monsters walked out of the room, locking them in with the flying creatures surrounding us.

"This can't happen!" I screamed, batting away a mean spirited gargoyle. It was flapping his wings at me, trying to strangle me with it's tiny, scrawny arms at my face. Dad took out a bottle of special sunscreen lotion from his coat pocket. And jumped in front of me! Startling me, Dad sprayed the shiny white sunscreen lotion and the baby gargoyle's eyes turned fiery red. And it exploded into sparkling dust. "Get them all!" I shouted.

The flying monsters laughed and pointed at us. Thinking we outsmarted them. But they weren't threatened by our secret weapon. Hearts pounding, Dad tried squirting more magic lotion at the winged gargoyles. They were circling us as a nearby monster snatched it out of Dad's reach.

Taking the lotion bottle in its claws, the purple gargoyle snickered and laughed at us. It started to aim it at us. When suddenly, the door blew open. Startling the flying creatures, they turned and saw it was Traci Troll appearing before us! She was hovering over a skateboard. Holding a bottle of supernatural lotion screen, Traci applied some all over her skin.

She started to glow and tossed the bottle aside. The flying creatures started to sniff at Traci. Making them hungry inside. Before she could let the gargoyle discover she's a meal, she transformed into a vampire bat!

Startling us, she flew out of the room. Angering the gargoyles, they flew after her. "You're not going to turn us, first?" I said, my voice squeaked. Ignoring me, the flying creatures went after Traci. Turning to look at Mom, I pointed out to Dad: "We can't leave Mom behind. It's important we get off this ship together before they decide we're immortal," I said.

Nodding, Dad took a look out the broken door. The coast was clear and I started to walk out into the empty hall. "Stay with Mom," Dad whispered. "I'm going to find Principal Shine. To see if he can help. I nodded and walked over to where Mom was hanging. Dad cautiously stepped out into the hall of the spaceship.

There was slime all over the walls where the gargoyles took after Traci. When there was nothing more going on, Mr. Shine stepped in front of Dad. He was an ugly looking vampire before him! "Ready to join immortality?" Mr. Shine asked, showing his fangs. Stepping back, Dad tried to call for help. Then, Mr. Shine quickly wrung his hands around Dad's neck. And took a bite out of him!

Bolting upright in a seat in the classroom of Mrs. Hey, I screamed, almost toppling out of my chair. I looked around, and could see everyone staring at me. Then, they laughed. Including Mrs. Hey. Traci sat beside me, and I could tell she was worried about me. "Dreaming again, too?" she asked, frowning. I nodded.

Mrs. Hey walked over to my desk. "I'm sorry to disappoint you. How you may think my class is boring you. The only way we can prepare ourselves for the alien invasion is to take it seriously," she insisted. I didn't want to believe her. She doesn't know what the aliens are going to do to us.

"Aliens are going to make us undead enemies to humankind," I explained, breathing hard. The students turned to look at me like they didn't understand. Traci looked at Mrs. Hey and they both agreed it was time to start the lesson.

Reaching out their hands, Traci and Mrs. Hey touched my forehead. A white glow made me disappear again. I was back in the Mothership. And saw Dad's back turned behind Mr. Shine. "Dad? Everything alright?" I asked, fear stricken. Dad let out an evil laugh.

Dad looked human, except his eyes started to glow red. Then, Mr. Shine stepped beside him. Taking out some lotion, Mr. Shine squeezed a glob of it on Dad. He turned into a vampire bat before us! Coming after me, I knew I was next...

THE END?
