"Xi Jiangxi!" the emperor's voice thundered as he stormed into the crown prince's chambers, his face flushed with anger.
"All of you, get out!" he commanded angrily.
All the attendants, seeing the anger on the emperor's face, quickly scurried out of the room in fear.
Xi Jiangxi, who was sitting at his table, his fingers curled around a teacup, looked up surprised as he saw the emperor towering over him, fuming. He froze in place , startled by the sudden outburst.
Then, he set the cup down with a quiet clink.
"Your Majesty," Xi Jiangxi quickly rose to his feet, quite confused. "Why are you so angry?"
"Are you responsible for the attempted assassination of Xi Ming?" the emperor interrogated.
Xi Jiangxi's heart pounded in fear.
How did he know? He had made sure to cover his tracks cleanly.
Xi Jiangxi quickly composed himself and fell on his knees.
