Kim Min Jun looked at the file in his hand. His expressions were dark and brooding, seemingly annoyed. Today, he had come to see his mother, who was serving a prison term for murdering Madam Park five years ago.
A crime she did not commit.
Min Jun recalled the past, the day when his heart was torn apart by the man he loved the most, Park Hyun Soo. For him, he would willingly sacrifice his own life and could even take anyone's life.
"My mom would never do that! You know this well, Hyun Soo. Please, please save my mom. She is my everything," pleaded Min Jun with teary eyes.
"She killed my mom, Min Min. Do you know what you're asking of me? Are you asking me to save a murderer?" Park Hyun Soo snickered and tightened his fist.
"Don't you trust me? Trust us?" Kim Min Jun asked.
"No. I don't trust you! You and your mother destroyed everything! I will make sure your mother rots in prison," Park Hyun Soo threatened him.
"My mom didn't do this. I swear I will uncover the truth," Kim Min Jun confidently said as he pointed a finger at Park Hyun Soo's chest. "It's over between us. Everything ends here!" He declared.
As Kim Min Jun turned to leave, Park Hyun Soo said, "You will regret losing me."
"That will never happen. You will hate yourself for losing me!" Kim Min Jun said and walked out of the door with tears in his eyes.
That was the day when Kim Min Jun killed any feelings he had for Park Hyun Soo. All that remained between them was hatred and the pain of betrayal.
If only Park Hyun Soo had stood by his side, Min Jun wouldn't have been miserable in his most difficult time. He sighed and mumbled to himself, "That jerk. I shouldn't think about him!"
Then, the door of the meeting room swung open, causing Kim Min Jun to leave his seat. He looked at the fragile figure of his mother. She didn't look well and it seemed like she had been sick recently. Seeing the handcuffs on her wrists ached Min Jun's heart.
"Mom!" Kim Min Jun's eyes watered as he hugged her. They could only see each other once a month and for no longer than ten minutes. As he hugged her, he felt the warmth he missed everyday.
"You two only have ten minutes," said the officer-in-charge and closed the door behind him.
"Mom, are you alright? Should I appeal for a medical emergency? You need a doctor's appointment. You don't look well," said Min Jun with a worried glance.
"I'm fine, Son," Kim Minji said and forced a smile on her lips. "Have you been eating well?"
"Yes, I eat well. Mom, I'll take you out from here soon. Just a few more weeks. I'm trying my best to gather the evidence," Min Jun told her.
"Jun-ah, don't do that. I have pleaded guilty to the charges. I beg you," Kim Minji pleaded with her son.
"Why? Why should you plead guilty to a crime you did not commit? You've ruined your life. I've always wished to give you a life of comfort, not this. Tell me the truth, at least. Why did you do that?" Min Jun demanded. Seeing his mother's silence, he grew frustrated.
"Tell me the truth. Please. I swear, I'll make everything right," Kim Min Jun said with confidence.
Kim Minji looked toward the small window, making sure the officer outside couldn't listen to them. Once assured, Kim Minji held the hands of her son tightly.
"Min Jun, stop this investigation! Everything I've done, I've done for you, my son.. Why can't you see this? I want you to live peacefully," Kim Minji begged Min Jun to stop.
"How can I live in peace?!" Kim Min Jun almost shouted and noticed how his mother held back her tears. "I-I have to prove your innocence, Mom. I joined this profession for you. Why don't you get it?" Kim Min Jun questioned her with a bewildered gaze.
Kim Minji lowered her head and sighed. She glanced at the small window on the door to make sure the officer wasn't looking in their direction.
"Madam Park's death was a part of a bigger conspiracy. If you keep looking, you're going to get yourself involved. All I want is to see you safe. And if you don't stop here, they will come after you," Kim Minji said, and a tear escaped her eye which she quickly wiped.
"Does Hyun Soo know anything about this?" Kim Min Jun asked with furrowed brows.
"I…I don't know. But his life is also in danger," Kim Minji said.
Before Kim Min Jun could ask his mother what she meant by that, the door flung open and the officer walked in.
"Your time is up. We need to take her away. You can leave, Mr. Kim," the officer stated.
"Wait! No! The time isn't over yet. We still have a minute," Kim Min Jun protested, looking at the watch, but the officer didn't let him see his mother further. Min Jun almost fought with the officer, who finally took the action and threw him out of the prison's gates.
"Fuck! Why did Mom say that?" Min Jun muttered.
"Hyun Soo is in danger. I-I need to meet him!" Min Jun stuttered and with trembling hands he picked up his phone.
Though he had since deleted Park Hyun Soo's number, he remembered it well. He dialed that number, but it didn't connect.
Min Jun headed to his bike, slipping his helmet on as he noticed the panda keychain dangling from his pocket. It was a gift from Hyun Soo, given to him just yesterday for his 25th birthday. As he touched the keychain, he remembered how much it meant to Park Hyun Soo.
A bittersweet smile crossed his face. Shaking his head to clear the emotions, he gently pushed the keychain back into his pocket.
He mounted his bike, started the engine, and set off to meet Park Hyun Soo.

Park Hyun Soo's phone buzzed and he checked it.
'Your item was delivered yesterday. Do share your feedback.'
A satisfied smile spread across his lips as he looked at the message from the delivery agency. Secretary Choi sitting in the passenger seat noticed his smile and found it weird. His boss hasn't smiled since the time he worked for him.
"Sir, you smiled!" Secretary Choi said with a bright smile.
Park Hyun Soo got conscious and the smile from his lips disappeared. "Do you want me to fire you?" He coldly asked.
"Eh?" Secretary Choi's face drained of color, and he quickly apologized, bowing his head.
Ignoring his secretary, Park Hyun Soo turned to look out the window. The weather was unusually pleasant. Yesterday was Kim Min Jun's birthday. It had been five years since they last saw each other, but this time, Park Hyun Soo was determined to reach out, even if it was for the final time.
Since becoming the CEO of Park Business Groups, Park Hyun Soo lived with a constant, nagging fear that one day he would meet a tragic end.
For some reason, seeing Kim Min Jun one last time had become an overwhelming desire. This was why he sent his most treasured item to Kim Min Jun yesterday. But it seemed he didn't bother to even send a reply to him.
'He hates you. Min Min will never come to you,' Park Hyun Soo's inner voice taunted. 'I truly hate myself for losing him. I hope everything goes well and we get together again.'
Lost in the memories of the past, he didn't notice the truck speeding towards his car from the left. The sudden collision sent the car careening off the road, tires screeching.
The windows shattered, and Park Hyun Soo's head slammed against the windshield. Shards of glass embedded themselves in his skin. The force of the impact flung open the car door, and he was violently ejected from his seat, landing hard on the road.
Park Hyun Soo coughed the blood.
"Hyun Soo-ah!!!" Kim Min Jun screamed as he abruptly halted his bike. He took off the helmet and it fell on the ground. Without wasting another second, he ran and got on his knees, holding Park Hyun Soo in his lap. His hands were covered in the blood of Hyun Soo and tears streamed down his cheeks.
"Min Min," Park Hyun Soo murmured and smiled. He raised his hand and touched his cheek. "You've become handsome!" He caressed it, the tears escaped from the edges of his eyes and he coughed more blood.
"You too! Now, don't speak. I wi-will take you to the hospital," Kim Min Jun said.
"My t-time has come," Park Hyun Soo managed to utter.
"Don't say that. I am sorry. I am sorry for not trusting you," Kim Min Jun said, the tears continuing to trickle down his cheeks.
"I missed you. I wish I had approached you earlier!" Before taking his last breath in Kim Min Jun's arms, Hyun Soo said, "In the next life, let's be lovers!"
"Hyun Soo! Hyun Soo! Please wake up!" Kim Min Jun begged as he held him close. He was quick to take out the phone from his pocket and called 119 for an ambulance.
Unbeknownst to him, the same truck sped toward him.
Kim Min Jun's head snapped up upon hearing the strange voice of a moving vehicle, his eyes widening in horror as the truck bore down on them. There was no time to react. The truck slammed into him with a sickening thud, sending his body flying before it landed heavily next to Park Hyun Soo.
The impact caused the keychain to tumble out of Kim Min Jun's pocket. His face was covered in blood, and his breaths became shallow.
With great effort, he turned his head to look at Park Hyun Soo one last time. Tears mixed with blood streamed down his face. "If only we could meet again, I would want to see us as our 18-year-old selves to change our fates and be with you forever," he whispered, his voice trembling. "Hyun Soo, I love you. Forgive me for never confessing to you."
With those final words, Kim Min Jun took his last breath. His eyes remained fixed on Park Hyun Soo, a mixture of love and regret etched into his features as he succumbed to his injuries.
