Chapter 23 - Challenge for Hunters (2)

"Please help me!" the young woman shouted as she approached Leonard, fear written all over her face.

Leonard didn't respond to her plea. Instead, he looked up, scrutinized the behemoth, and tried to identify its weak points.

'Humanoids have similar weak points. However, I can't be sure with this behemoth. It's just too huge for me to tackle,' he thought, considering using his magic scroll and potion.

Thinking deeply, Leonard devised a plan. If he failed, he would summon Zeus. But if he could defeat this monster, it would mean earning a lot from its carcass and learning a valuable lesson. Nodding to himself, he solidified the plan and began climbing up a tree, tightly gripping the branches as the tremors continued. The young woman, nearing him, was confused by Leonard's actions but continued to run for her life.

As Leonard reached the top of the tree, feeling the sharpness of the leaves as he shoved them aside, some still obstructed his view, but they didn't hinder his plan. From his , he took out the Fire Explosive Magic scroll and aimed it at the behemoth's neck. His plan was to hit its neck; if he missed, at least its jaw would be broken, leaving the creature disoriented. He knew he couldn't kill it easily, but he still had the Strengthening potion at his disposal.

As Leonard commenced his plan, the woman became more confused seeing him perched atop the tree she had just passed.

The behemoth, now diverting its attention toward Leonard, could only watch as a huge ball of fire flew directly toward it. When it reached its neck, a growl emanated from within, echoing through its vocal cords as the pain intensified.

Unable to focus due to the pain, the behemoth lost sight of Leonard and noticed another sharp pain in its neck. It heard a crack and tried to inspect the damage, but its vision blurred, and its balance faltered as its mind weakened. The behemoth could only feel its neck snapping, the few bones within disappearing, and the warmth of blood bathing it.

Slowly, the behemoth fell to the ground, its consciousness fading, each second bringing more confusion and fear. Even with blurry vision, it could still make out faint shadows in its field of view and the light of the sky above, but soon a shadow covered its sight. Leonard stood above the behemoth's neck, grabbing the glowing stone on its forehead.

[Experience Points +100]

'I wonder if I can sell this at a great price,' Leonard thought as he examined the stone's color clearly.

Earlier, Leonard had only noticed the light coming from the behemoth's forehead, likely reflecting sunlight. But now, he could clearly see the red hue inside the stone, which was roughly the size of his head.

'This could be expensive,' he thought.

Placing it inside his , Leonard learned the stone's name and nature.

[Crimson Giant Core]

[Description: The life source of a Supreme Chanak. Can be used to enchant weapons.]

"What a monster," Leonard smirked as he secured the stone inside his inventory. Then, he inspected the surroundings.

The damage was evident. Though the destruction was minimal, with only a few trees down, covered by the behemoth, there was still a noticeable impact. It was as if the canopy formed by the trees had been removed from this spot.

Sighing, Leonard began to plan what to do with the body. He was happy and proud of himself. Despite his earlier fear of failing, the effects of the Strengthening potion were so strong that he felt like a pure barbarian born with a chiseled body. His balance was perfect, and his grip on the behemoth's exposed neck was firm. He felt like he could do anything that required strength.

"I could be a super soldier," he mumbled, knocking on the behemoth's thick skin.

"Did you just defeat that monster with ease? Are you a Player?"

Leonard's attention was diverted by the voice coming from behind him. He turned around, getting a clear view of the young woman who had been chased earlier. She was pretty, with a good figure, clear fair skin despite the dirt covering her face, black hair, and an ample chest.

"I hope you don't mind." Leonard shook his head, trying to focus, and looked directly at the woman's face. "I was the one who killed it."

The young woman shook her head with a calm expression. Extending her hand, she introduced herself, "I am Yuna. Thank you for saving me."

Not sure what to do, Leonard simply returned her smile and introduced himself as well. "The name is Leonard."

"Are you a Player?" Yuna asked once more.

"Why do you ask?" Leonard responded, pondering while maintaining the poised aura that Yuna had sensed earlier.

Yuna smiled, feeling reassured about Leonard's character. She sensed a slight familiarity and comfort in him as she spoke, "Every Player has that same confidence. The way you fought earlier wasn't something a normal Hunter would do. It was risky—one wrong move, and you could've died."

Smirking, Leonard shook his head. "That's not something I should answer, right? But are you okay? You were just running for your life earlier. Are you fine now?"

Fear crept back onto Yuna's face as she recalled her party's situation. The slight assurance Leonard had given her began to fade as she worried about her party's fate. She gripped her bow tightly, looking down.

"I'm fine. But, if it's okay with you, can you… at least check what happened to my party?" She pointed in the direction she had come from. "I'll do anything you ask to repay you for saving my life, but I don't have the strength to check on them right now, knowing that I ran and left them behind."

Leonard didn't quite know how to feel, sensing the deep worry from Yuna, who seemed to care deeply for her party. He understood that Hunters had specialties, and she must have been a valuable member with high compatibility in her group.

"I understand," Leonard replied, before heading straight in the direction Yuna had indicated.
