**Chapter 4: The Hidden Agenda**
Xiao Feng stood before Master Li in the grand hall of the Skywind Sect, a place known for its ancient secrets and resources. He had no intention of becoming a disciple but sought to uncover the sect's hidden treasures and knowledge that could aid his cultivation.
"I understand your desire to join our sect," Master Li began, studying Xiao Feng closely. "But tell me, what is your true purpose?"
Xiao Feng met Master Li's gaze, his expression calm. "I seek knowledge and resources to advance my cultivation. I believe the Skywind Sect holds what I need."
Master Li nodded slowly. "Our sect does possess many ancient secrets. However, these are not easily given. You must prove your worth."
Xiao Feng knew this was his chance to gain access to the sect's resources without revealing his true power. "I am willing to undergo any trial you deem necessary."
Master Li motioned for an attendant to guide Xiao Feng through the courtyard, where various training grounds and obstacle courses awaited.
"The first trial tests your physical and martial prowess," the attendant explained. "You must complete the obstacle course and defeat the training dummies within the allotted time."
Xiao Feng approached the course, his movements swift and precise. Despite his superior cultivation, he held back just enough to appear impressive but not overly extraordinary. He navigated the obstacles with ease and dismantled the training dummies with efficient strikes.
The other disciples watched in awe, and the attendant nodded approvingly. "You have passed the first trial. The next trial will test your knowledge and understanding of cultivation."
Xiao Feng was led to a room filled with ancient scrolls and books. Master Li awaited him, seated at a large wooden table.
"To be a true cultivator, one must possess knowledge as well as strength," Master Li said. "Answer these questions about the history of cultivation, the properties of spiritual herbs, and the principles of various techniques."
Xiao Feng answered each question with ease, drawing on his extensive knowledge from his previous life. Master Li's expression remained neutral, but Xiao Feng could sense his growing respect.
"Impressive," Master Li said after the final question. "The final trial will test your spirit and resolve. Follow me."
They moved to another chamber, this one dark and silent. In the center was a large, ornate mirror.
"This is the Mirror of Truth," Master Li explained. "It will reflect your deepest fears and weaknesses. You must confront and overcome them to pass this trial."
Xiao Feng stepped before the mirror, his reflection staring back at him. The image shifted, showing scenes from his past—the moment of his death in the Heavenly Realm, the faces of his fallen friends, and the sense of helplessness and loss.
He felt the familiar surge of emotions but steeled himself. *I have faced greater trials than this. I will not be bound by my past.*
The mirror's images wavered and then shattered. Xiao Feng stood tall, his spirit unyielding.
Master Li smiled, a rare expression of approval. "You have passed the trials, Xiao Feng. You may now access our resources."
Xiao Feng nodded, his true goal achieved. As he mingled with the other disciples, he gathered information about the sect's hidden treasures and rare cultivation materials. He remained discreet, carefully planning his next moves.
His journey on Earth was just beginning, and with the resources of the Skywind Sect at his disposal, Xiao Feng was ready to continue his path to power and vengeance.
