The Huang family was delighted to receive an invitation, especially from the Lins, their benefactors. Raven was even more happy to receive the invite as he was eager to expand his business even further.
As for Trixie, she had longed to be invited to such prestigious events. Being a world-renowned chef had its guts and all of the recognition she deserved.
This invitation would serve a significant mark in her career since she was the only chef who had been invited to such an event.
She scoured the Metro for the perfect dress, one that would guarantee her a husband, while dreaming if that husband would be Rex Lin—the man of her dreams.
The Huangs meticulously prepared everything for this event and arrived at the venue even earlier than any other guests, barely paying little attention to those who arrived after them.
"Stop putting on more make-up, dear sister. I bet you and Lilian are the most beautiful ladies in that event," Raven teased.
Trixie blushed and playfully slapped her brother as she let out a giggle before putting her make-up kit back inside her bag.
"Oh stop it, Raven. I know I am pretty."
As the event slowly commenced, the Huangs eagerly tried networking with everyone attending it.
Hunter Ming, CEO of Ming Corp., arrived later, drawing all eyes upon himself as he strode to the table near the stage and requested a glass of champagne—probably his first drink of the evening.
Trixie watched him with fluttering eyes, slowly following his footsteps and only stopping two tables away from him, observing him as he slowly sipped the champagne.
With her eyes filled with determination, she took a step forward, but a voice squealed her name.
Trixie rolled her eyes as she turned to the source of the voice. "Trixie, sister!"
Lilian, in her ridiculous pink dress, ran towards Trixie with a broad smile plastered on her face.
"Lilian, how are you?" Trixie asked.
"Oh, I missed you so much, Trixie! Congratulations on the expansion, though. I am so proud of you."
"I know, right."
"So, how are you doing? And…" Trixie trailed off as her eyes met the man behind Lilian. A slight tint of blush spread across her cheeks as her eyes met the mysterious man's eyes.
She had never seen such a handsome figure before, he was way more attractive than any of the guys she had previously dated. "Who is that?" she softly whispered.
Lilian rolled her eyes when she saw the fluttering movement of Trixie's eyes. She pointed at Joshua before slowly introducing his name and specifically mentioning his role.
"His name is Joshua, and he is my personal butler."
Trixie's mouth opened wide.
She knew how rich the Chus were but didn't expect for them to have a butler. She stared at the man as he bowed elegantly, his eyes closing slowly and his hair flowing softly in her direction.
"It's a pleasure to meet such a beautiful maiden as yourself, Ms. Huang."
Trixie felt a rush of goosebumps all over her body upon hearing the man's sultry, deep voice. She suppressed a squeal, wary that it might draw bad attention from those around them.
Trixie offered her hand for a kiss, trying to see if the man would accept or withdraw, given that his mistress was just beside him.
Joshua stared at the hand, a grin forming in the back of his mind.
'If I kiss her hand in front of Lilian, she would go ballistic and make a scene. But if I don't, then it would look rude.'
Joshua hummed to himself as he stepped forward. He was about to grab Trixie's hand when Lilian interrupted by tugging him towards the direction of Stellar Wang.
"Hi, Stellar. It's been a while. How's the celebrity life treating you?"
A clear annoyance was evident in her tone, yet she plastered a neutral expression as she approached Stellar Wang.
The gesture made Joshua pause and straighten his posture. He smiled tightly towards Trixie before fixing himself in front of Stellar
"I don't think that's any of your business," Stellar replied coolly.
A small grin played on Stellar's lips as both of the women stared at her with shock while Joshua watched the scene unfolding before him, trying not to intervene.
"Snarky as well, Ms. Wang. Is that how your parents raised you?"
Stellar's unwavering gaze remained fixed on her face as she looked at the two from head to toe, smiling at how ridiculous the two looked.
"Hm, maybe. But I still don't think that's any of your business."
Lilian rolled her eyes at Stellar's demeanor with them. "Where is all this confidence coming from, Stellar?"
A smirk formed on Stellar's lips, mocking the two women in front of her. "From Rex, who never cared for anything except for himself."
Stellar pointed to the two people descending the stairs, holding hands and laughing sweetly at each other. Lilian followed her gaze.
Lilian's eyes widened in surprise as she saw Rex smiling at Lucas.
'What the fuck?'
Her face flushed red, knuckles clenched tight as she glared at them, anger evident in her eyes.
She could feel every bit of blood in her system boiling as the two men made their way down the stairs.
Never in her life had Lilian seen Rex smile at her the way he did towards Lucas.
"That bitch. Just you wait, I will take back what's mine."
She clenched her teeth so tightly that they left no gap for air to pass through as she gaped in annoyance and frustration at what was happening.
She then took a deep breath and turned to Joshua.
"Behave, dog. I will be right back."
With that, Lilian left the venue and headed to the restroom. Trixie was left alone near the stage as Joshua also excused himself.
Trixie wondered who the man with Rex was and what their relationship could be—they looked so close together.
"Good evening. Welcome to the 31st annual celebration of the Ming Corporation. I am Stellar Wang, one of the board members of the company."
Applause echoed from every side of the venue, eliciting a smile from Stellar at the attention she was getting before she continued her speech.
"Ming Corporation might be one of the youngest companies in the alliance, yet it has thrived in the business world, led under the brilliant leadership of Hunter, the company has grown to what it is today."
Trixie was listening, yet her mind kept drifting back to Rex and his mysterious guy. Could the man be the one everyone thought was Rex's lover?
She stared at them, her eyes focusing on the younger man. And that was when a sudden feeling of familiarity washed through her mind as she watched him interact with the biggest fishes in this wide room.
"Who are you, and why am I getting the feeling that I know you?"
