Chapter 1 - A Dream That Feels Real

The blue sky was dotted with white clouds, slowly drifting by. I was sharing a wonderfully green meadow where the soil felt soft and slightly damp, perhaps because it had just rained. However, the earth wasn't too wet and wouldn't dirty my skirt. I spread my arms wide and lay on the grass, enjoying the sky, the breeze, and the chirping of birds. It was such a pleasant day.

Suddenly, "Ring, ring, ring!" What was that noise? Why was something disturbing my peace? My heart sank. I shut my eyes tightly and then opened them wide again. Why was I in bed? It turned out I had been dreaming. My mother called out, "Wake up quickly! You're going to be late again. It's already 7:30, and you're still in bed." Groggily, I rubbed my eyes and looked around. Where was my blue sky, my white clouds, my vast meadow? Why had it all disappeared? Slowly, I curled up like a centipede and dragged my tired body to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face, slapping my cheeks to wake myself up. Today was another spirited day. After heading downstairs, I saw that my mom had already prepared breakfast. Once I ate, it was time to head to school.

Today wasn't a special school day, just an ordinary one. Since the school was nearby, I walked there slowly. On my way back, I always passed a small path next to a forest. Every time I walked by, I looked at it, feeling the wind blowing from that direction was particularly soothing. It gave me a special feeling, as if it was inviting me to go in. But of course, being the timid person I was, there was no way I would venture in alone.

As I walked closer to the school gates, I spotted my friend Kelly. She was a cheerful and lively girl, always the first to help me when I struggled to communicate with others. I especially enjoyed going to school with her because it made me feel secure and eased all my worries.

Suddenly, "Bang!" A male classmate walked up from behind and put his arms around both Kelly and me. I thought to myself, "What a troublesome guy." Kelly, ever playful, hooked her arm around his neck in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hold and said, "What's up, Big Guy! Did you win or lose yesterday's match?" The boy, Daryl, known as Big Guy, replied, "Of course, I won! Have you ever seen me lose a match?" Kelly praised him as usual, and I forced a smile. Daryl was on the school's soccer team and had been friends with Kelly since childhood. With his athletic prowess and sunny smile, it was no wonder he was the heartthrob of our class. While Kelly continued to compliment him, Daryl snatched Kelly's backpack and ran toward the corridor. Kelly chased after him, shouting, "Not again!" And just like that, my dear Kelly ran off, leaving me to lament, "There goes my sense of security!"

At that moment, I felt a chilling gaze on me. I looked over and saw someone hiding in the corner near the school gate. Who could it be? Being timid, I didn't dare to investigate. I hoped the person wasn't staring at me but at other students. Maybe I was just overly sensitive and accidentally noticed them. Surely, they weren't a thief or a bad person. I decided to ignore it and proceeded to place my backpack in the locker before heading to class. Today was just another ordinary day. Sitting by the window, I watched Kelly and Daryl still playfully bickering. I sighed softly, my gaze drifting to the blue sky and white clouds outside. My eyelids grew heavy, slowly closing and opening.

Wait! It was the meadow, the blue sky, and the white clouds from my dream that morning! This time, I decided not to lie on the grass but to stand up. I lazily strolled around, feeling incredibly relaxed. My hands rested behind my head as I walked. For some reason, this place gave me a sense of security. I began to close my eyes and walk slowly, savoring the scent of the wind and grass. Occasionally, I looked up at the sky and the clouds. I sighed again, thinking how beautiful this place was. I wished I could live there forever, escaping the hustle and bustle, without my mom waking me up or dealing with school.

At that moment, I felt someone's gaze on me again. It was the same feeling I had at the school gate. This time, I looked back. In this vast meadow, there was no place to hide. Yet, when I turned around, there was no one there. What was going on?

I decided to ignore it and continued to enjoy the serene, comforting environment. I walked for about 10 to 20 minutes, deliberately not taking out my phone to spoil the beautiful atmosphere. Then, the clouds changed color, and the once blue sky and white clouds grew increasingly overcast. I looked up and thought, "Oh no, is it going to rain? I don't have an umbrella or a raincoat. What should I do?" There was no shelter in sight either. I panicked, thinking I was going to get soaked. I started running, searching for cover, but no matter where I ran, the scenery remained the same. "Am I in some kind of boundary?" I wondered. Feeling hopeless, I decided to give up. If I was going to get wet, so be it.

Suddenly, I felt myself being enveloped by something and rapidly moved. It felt less like being covered and more like being carried. In the blink of an eye, I opened my eyes again, but there was no one around in the vast expanse. How could someone be carrying me? I looked around, seeing nothing, yet I felt myself being lifted by something invisible. This transparent entity held me securely, moving quickly. I couldn't see it, but I felt its solid chest as it protected my head. It ran faster and faster, the speed blurring the distance. Along the way, I heard the rustling of grass, some of which brushed against my face and ears. I thought, "These grasses grow so tall!"

After a while, I felt the entity begin to leap. If this was a forest, it might have been jumping between trees. It continued for some time before slowing down and eventually stopping. Then it gently placed me on the ground. I wondered, "Doesn't it want to get wet? Is this creature afraid of rain?" I still couldn't see it; it remained invisible. I looked around and noticed that the sky was still overcast, but it seemed more like dusk. There were no signs of rain. Nearby was a beautiful, mirror-like lake surrounded by forest. In the middle of the lake stood a wooden cabin, yet there was no path leading to it. Where was I?
