"Ah!" Lord George gasped in pain as he stumbled to the ground after getting kicked in the chest. "Oww.. you son of a bitch," he growled at the guard. "Do you even know who you are touching?"
The guard sneered down at him, "Fuck off. The Kiem family is not the only ruler of this city, you know."
"You…." Lord George trembled with rage as he got to his feet, "You fucking bastard… I will not let this slide."
Though he would have loved to show these two guards their place, Lord George knew that there was no way he could beat these two down.
He might be a snake beastman who was higher in the hierarchy than them but he was not skilled in fighting when compared to these guards, thus even if he wanted to get rid of them he couldn't.
Lord George understood his own strength and position.
And anyway, the blade which he had used was a special one. Let's see if these two idiots could even get this treated.
Thus, he snorted and said in a threatening manner, "Don't think that this will be the end of this matter. Just wait, I will get you back." He then turned on his feet and walked away with an annoyed expression on his face.
The crowd parted as he walked past them towards his carriage.
"That was such a low-level move," remarked Damien as he watched the man climb into the carriage with the help of two of his assistants. "I have seen thugs doing a much better job than that."
As he spoke he climbed down the stairs of the carriage, Xavier who was sitting inside the carriage, turned and looked at him, "Where are you going, Lord Damien?" he asked.
Damien however did not reply to Xavier and instead walked over to where the two guards were standing.
"Are you alright Sigurd?" The head guard asked worriedly as he watched Sigurd wipe the blood off the side of his neck.
"I am alright, Adikus," replied Sigurd. He then looked at the woman who was sobbing on the floor and asked her, "Are you feeling alright, Matilda?"
The woman wiped her eyes with her sleeves and nodded. "I am alright. I am really sorry because of me, you got injured," she said to Sigurd as she got to her feet and looked at the man's injury on the side of her neck.
"It's fine this is nothing," said Sigurd as he wiped the blood off his neck. "This happens all the time anyway."
He wasn't new to injury with how the patrons of this brothel acted. Getting injuries was simply unavoidable while working in the brothel.
"Excuse me, would you like me to look at your injury?"
Sigurd and Adikus turned around and looked at the man standing behind them with a frown on their faces.
"Who are you?" Adikus asked while eyeing Damien warily.
"I am Damien De Brystoria," Damien introduced himself politely. "I am a doctor— your injury," he paused while looking at the cut on Sigurd's neck. "It can prove fatal if it's not treated. Is it alright if I take a look?"
"Oh are you a healer?" Adikus asked while staring at Damien with slight curiosity. "You look really young."
Damien smiled and replied with a shake of his head, "No. I am not a healer but I can treat your injuries without magic as well."
Adikus exchanged a look with Sigurd before the two of them burst out laughing.
"You really know how to scam people," said Adikus jovially. "Such a small scar and you are saying that it can prove fatal? Even if you are going to scam someone, you should at least try to sound reasonable."
Sigurd also snorted derisively. He raised his head and looked at Damien before saying. "You don't need to play like this. The wine here is rather cheap, just go in and tell them what you want." His gaze fell on the clothes that Damien was wearing before muttering under his breath, "Goodness, just what kind of people are coming to for business these days?"
Once he was done speaking, Sigurd shook his head and then walked away with Adikus. The two of them were still laughing at Damien and his poor attempt at scamming them.
"Healing without magic, these people will say anything," Damien heard Sigurd snicker as he wiped the blood off his neck.
Adikus nodded along as he remarked, "Well what can we do? With the sudden change in the power play of the city, the rise of the crooks is getting worse. Back then when it was just the Wolfe family, we did not have to worry about anything."
"But with these Kiem guys, we are having a hard time dealing with these crooks. They are letting them have all kinds of free reign."
Damien stared at the two with a blank expression on his face, he was painfully aware of the fact that Xavier was laughing behind him. "Yeah..you can laugh, you know. Go ahead and laugh, there is no need to be polite."
No sooner did he finish speaking, than Xavier burst out laughing. With his hands wrapped around his waist, the beastman sunk so low that Damien thought that he was going to kiss the ground.
'Maybe he might as well,' a sudden sinister desire to knock Xavier by hooking his leg with his and pulling him down, surged in Damien's mind but he reluctantly put it away.
He was past thirty-eight if he was to count his age from the last life as well, and not eighteen. He needed to be more mature instead of childish.
'But he is making it so difficult,' said his brain.
'Shut up.'
'A little tug will do no one any harm.'
'I said shut up,' said Damien more sternly. The last thing he wanted was to act like an overly stimulated teenager.
"If you are done, can we leave now?" Damien asked Xavier with a raise of his brow.
"Ah, yes..yes," Xavier nodded as he stood up straight. There were tears of mirth in his eyes and he nodded, "Le—let's go."
Damien snorted with slight annoyance. He followed Xavier to the carriage but just as he was about to climb up the stairs of the carriage when he turned around and looked in the direction where Sigurd had left.
'Well it bothers me..but if the patient doesn't want it then ..what can I do?'
