The Old Ones, or Outer Gods, are eldritch entities older than the universe itself. It is recorded in the ancient tome "The Origins" that these beings exist simply because they can.
They are beyond comprehension, beyond morality, and beyond the limitations of time and space. It is said that when the void was silent, some of these beings sought to shatter that peace—thus, the universe and the primordial gods were born.
However, not all of them stayed to witness their creation. Some ventured beyond the known cosmos, exploring the infinite void, while others lingered, watching over existence with an unknowable agenda.
Though their true number is unfathomable, humanity has recorded the existence of seven of these beings, each a force of unimaginable power that stands outside the realm of life and death. Their very presence is said to warp reality, and their whims have shaped civilizations and wiped out entire worlds.
There are not many records available about them . Only knowledge about 7 of them exists.
Urg-Sulath, the Senseless
"He sees nothing, hears nothing, and knows nothing... yet he is everything."
Urg-Sulath is an entity that defies the very concept of perception. It has no eyes, no ears, no mouth, no nose—no means to experience reality. And yet, it exists as a pitch-black mass of darkness, said to stretch across entire planets, consuming all in its path.
Legends say that when Urg-Sulath manifests, all sensory input within its domain ceases—sight, sound, touch, even thought is silenced, replaced by an overwhelming void. It is not malevolent, for it cannot comprehend malice or mercy. It simply is.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A vast, amorphous black void that devours light and perception.
Del-Karzithoth, the Spiral
"When the spiral dances, the world follows."
Del-Karzithoth is the most observed and recorded of the Old Ones. Often depicted as a swirling, galaxy-like vortex with a serene humanoid woman's face at its center, she is considered both a harbinger and a muse. It is said that when her visage darkens, calamities follow.
Ancient myths say that Del-Karzithoth is the source of all cyclical events in the universe—seasons, tides, even the rise and fall of civilizations. Everything spins at her whim, and those who dare look upon her face directly are said to spiral into eternal madness.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A cosmic vortex resembling a galaxy, with a shifting, sorrowful feminine face at its core.
Zul-Szerkal, the Breath
"The whisper that births empires, the sigh that ends them."
Zul-Szerkal is worshiped by the Church of Life, particularly among the people of Lorath. He is often depicted as an ancient, haggard man, draped in worn robes, who appears to those at the brink of death. He is known to offer a single black feather to those with unfinished duties—kings, warriors, sages, and revolutionaries.
Those who accept his feather often go on to achieve greatness, reshaping history with their newfound vigor. However, every feather bears a hidden cost, and those who live by his will inevitably meet an extraordinary and often tragic end.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A gaunt, elderly figure with deep-set eyes and a feathered cloak.
Cthulhu, the Dreaming Horror
"He sleeps beneath the waves... and in the minds of men."
Perhaps the most well-known of the Outer Gods, Cthulhu is a vast, tentacled entity that slumbers beneath the depths of the sea in the sunken city of R'lyeh. His dreams seep into the minds of mortals, driving them to madness and fanatic devotion.
Worshiped by secret cults across the globe, Cthulhu's presence is a looming dread over humanity, for when he awakens, it is said the stars will align, and his reign of terror will begin anew. Many believe his influence has already shaped great disasters throughout history.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A colossal, humanoid figure with an octopus-like head, vast wings, and a deep, unending hunger.
Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God
"The center of all things... the madness that dreams creation into being."
Azathoth is considered the most terrifying of all the Outer Gods, for he is the chaotic, mindless force that lies at the heart of existence. It is said that the universe itself is but a dream within Azathoth's slumbering mind. If he were to awaken, reality as we know it would cease to exist in an instant.
He is surrounded by an eternal court of mad, piping creatures who play discordant music to keep him asleep. The most powerful mages fear that even a whisper of his presence could unravel the fabric of existence itself.
Power Level: Beyond End Bringer.
Appearance: A writhing mass of cosmic horror, swirling with tendrils and glowing, pulsating eyes.
Shub-Niggurath, the Black Goat of the Woods
"Mother of a thousand young, the womb of endless horrors."
Shub-Niggurath is an Outer God of fecundity and chaos, an ever-hungry cosmic entity worshipped in secret fertility cults across the world. She is often described as a writhing mass of flesh, mouths, and tentacles, birthing countless horrors that roam the cosmos in her name.
It is said that Shub-Niggurath can grant unspeakable gifts to those who offer her their devotion, but at a terrible price—her spawn are monstrous, and their loyalty is fleeting at best. Entire towns have vanished overnight, replaced by grotesque forests of pulsing flesh where her influence takes root.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A towering, writhing entity with countless mouths and wriggling tendrils.
Hastur, the Shepherd of the Stars
"The stars are not silent, nor are they kind. He watches, waiting, whispering... guiding the lost along paths best left unseen."
In the oldest of forgotten texts, Hastur is not merely a god of whispers and madness, but something far more ancient—the Shepherd of the Stars. Long before the universe took its first breath, when the void was a canvas of infinite darkness,
Hastur wandered among the embryonic stars, guiding them through the chaotic abyss. Some claim he was once a being of purpose, a cosmic guardian who watched over the fledgling constellations, ensuring order amidst the chaos of creation.
But the stars themselves hold terrible secrets.
Over countless eons, Hastur listened to their murmurs, their celestial songs—songs filled with knowledge, horror, and cosmic truths that no mind, mortal or divine, was meant to comprehend. It is said that, as he gazed upon the boundless cosmos, a dreadful realization took root within him—an understanding so profound and terrifying that it shattered his original purpose.
No longer merely a shepherd, Hastur became a harbinger of revelation, bearing forbidden truths to those willing—or unfortunate enough—to listen.
Power Level: End Bringer.
Appearance: A regal, masked figure cloaked in tattered yellow robes that billow like dying stars. His face is always obscured, and those who claim to have seen beneath the mask speak only in riddles and madness.
Though these seven beings are the only ones humanity has been able to record, it is widely believed that countless more exist, lurking beyond comprehension, waiting for the right moment to return.
The Heroic Council and global organizations remain vigilant, but whispers grow louder—portals opening more frequently, strange phenomena occurring across the globe, and a rising number of cults worshipping the Outer Gods.
Edward Ludovic, now carrying a secret of his own, might soon find himself at the center of something far beyond his understanding.
