Chapter 16 - Underworld War

The sky gradually began to brighten as the sun crept higher, casting a faint glow over the landscape. Though the depths of the place remained shrouded in darkness, it was no longer pitch black—it felt more like the calm before a full moon.

The Yin Qi Lake started to vaporize at a faster pace as the sun's warmth penetrated the abyss. After three days of waiting, the lake finally seemed to have dried enough to spark unrest among the undead.

Out of nowhere, an Undead Beast resembling a tiger dashed towards the small platform where Jin Ho's corpse lay. Lu Shimming didn't move, though a frown creased his brow.

"Whoosh!"

The Undead Beast leaped, attempting to cross the nearly dried lake to reach the platform. But before it could land, a bone spear shot through the air like a roc piercing the clouds and pierced the beast's skull in one swift motion. The impact shattered its skull, and the beast—exuding an aura no less than the 8th Layer of Qi Refinement—fell in a single swoop.

As for the one who threw the spear—it was the Undead Zombie.

The other undead creatures, who had been ready to rush forward after the Undead Beast, instinctively halted. They realized that their best opportunity would come only if a more favorable situation arose. And the only one who could create such a situation was now in focus.

All hollow eyes turned towards the one figure who could potentially bring a variable into this story—the Giant Skeleton Knight, leading a legion.

Sensing the shift, the Giant Skeleton Knight grabbed its bone hammer and raised it high. A rattling sound emerged from its mouth as it tried to speak, but all Lu Shimming could hear was the clattering of its teeth.

"Scree!!"

As if a war trumpet had sounded, all the Skeleton Soldiers rushed forward, their target not the Yin Qi Lake, but the Undead Zombie.

The battle had finally begun.

"Roar!!" The Undead Zombie let out a furious bellow. It couldn't believe that such pesky creatures had the audacity to attack its esteemed self. It swung its fist in a brute display of power, crushing the Skeleton Soldiers rushing toward it.

With each strike, bones shattered, but as long as their skulls remained intact, the undead creatures would get back up, or crawl towards the Zombie, even if it meant biting it to death.

The scene was brutal and inhumane—it was a true battle of the undead.

The Legion of Skeleton Soldiers was relentless, trying to overwhelm the Undead Zombie with sheer numbers. But how could they compare to a creature of such strength, one that was comparable to a Foundation Establishment Stage Cultivator?

The Zombie pummeled the legion of skeletons, sending them flying in all directions, some in pieces, with limbs or skulls scattered. The Zombie seemed unstoppable. Just as it looked like it would be a one-sided slaughter, the Giant Skeleton Knight finally made its move.

It lifted its massive bone hammer with one hand and, taking a powerful step, leaped through the air, leaving a storm of dust in its wake.

The Undead Zombie, which had been holding an Undead Skeleton Soldier by the neck, immediately tossed it aside and raised both hands to parry the attack.

"Boom!"

As the two clashed, the shockwave sent the surrounding undead creatures staggering backward.

"Holy shit!" Lu Shimming's eyes widened in shock as he witnessed the scene. The two undead creatures were going berserk right in front of him, exchanging one powerful blow after another, fighting toe to toe.

He had always felt the Giant Skeleton Knight was strong, but fighting an Undead Zombie—a creature of Foundation Establishment Stage, was something on another level entirely.

Initially, Lu Shimming was worried about the Zombie massacring the Skeletons in a one-sided slaughter, but now he was worried about it. If the legion joined the fight alongside the Giant Skeleton Knight, the Zombie was as good as dead. Not that it was alive, but still, you get the picture.

"We can't let them join the Giant Skeleton Knight! If they do, we're done for!" Lu Shimming quickly made a decision. "Bai, it's action time!"

As if awaiting his command, Bai's figure emerged, leaping atop a boulder as if trying to imitate the Giant Skeleton Knight. Wielding a bone spear, Bai descended into the battlefield like a reincarnation of a War God.

Seeing them rush into the fray, the other undead followed suit, and chaos erupted in the underworld.

"Bang!"

Lu Shimming's fist crushed one undead's skull, while his bone club slammed into another. He closely followed behind Bai, assisting him at each step, as he was still unable to face the stronger Skeleton Soldiers alone.

Bai, on the other hand, fought fiercely on all sides, his body riddled with injuries, but his spear technique—polished under Lu Shimming's guidance—began to sweep through the battlefield.

"Whoosh!"

With a swift thrust, Bai stabbed the enemy in front of him. With a slight flick of his wrist, the spear moved back, stabbing another behind him. He then swiftly turned, his spear almost bending from the middle as he swung it with such force that it sent the upcoming horde flying with a single blow.

"Come at me, you f*ckers!" Lu Shimming screamed at the top of his lungs as several gaping wounds opened up on his body, but that didn't stop him from fighting. His fighting spirit seemed to burn even more fiercely the longer the battle raged.

Bai, meanwhile, kept a close eye on Lu Shimming, not letting him stray too far. Whenever he saw an attack heading for Lu Shimming's head, Bai would swiftly intercept it.

As the battle continued, Lu Shimming and Bai began to move tactically towards the center of the now almost dried-up lake. They weren't the only ones with that idea. Every creature around was conscious of the prize they were all fighting for—especially the two monsters going bonkers, their attacks sending shockwaves through the battlefield. Any creature unlucky enough to get caught between them was reduced to bone dust in an instant.

As the situation grew more intense with each passing second, a small undead squirrel quietly crept towards the center of the lake. No one paid attention to it; no one thought it could leap to the center, even with the remaining Yin Qi.

But out of nowhere, the little squirrel extended its arm, revealing a thin white membrane.

A flying squirrel!
