Chapter 5: Step On The Right Block!
Zen and Co. stepped on the first block as it lit with a white color, scaring the shit out of them for a second.
"Calm down and follow my every step." Zen, with sweat threatening to fall from nervousness, spoke, not looking behind him.
The group of 4 stuck together as the blocks that were separated by black lines looked like a gate to the unknown.
"Follow me." Zen said as he stepped on the block on the front right of their current one.
Giving his comrades enough space to follow him, he then moved to the block right next to the one he was in.
Just like that, the group spent a good few minutes jumping from block to block, and as they got closer, their nervousness got smaller and smaller, and their trust in Zen grew bigger and bigger.
"PHEW! We're safe!" Melissa shouted in happiness as she once again jumped at Zen, who didn't even look her way this time, but at the small door that was in front of them.
"Zen?" Sabrina came closer to Zen and looked at the door before she faced his eyes.
"Yes?" He asked, not knowing what this woman wanted to tell him, but he had an idea.
"I would like to apologize; I've been very selfish and unreasonable." She said bowing her head slightly was a demonstration of her likely culture that reminded Zen of the Asians back on earth.
'So nostalgic.' he thought.
"It's fine, you have every reason to, your life partner died in front of you." He said as he scratched his head with the hand Melissa, who was looking at both of them with interest, wasn't holding on to.
Sabrina's expression turned worse as she once again remembered the her husband was no more.
"I'm sorry." Zen, looking at this, quickly apologized, but Sabrina raised her arm.
"It's fine, you're right. I should live for him." She said she was looking depressed as tears threatened to fall from her eyes.
"Oh my, Sister. You're so strong willed." Melissa came closer to Sabrina and hugged her, complimenting her ability to hold onto herself after something so tragic happened.
"I'm not." That was all Sabrina could say.
Everybody looked at her, and silence drowned out the atmosphere for a second before Zen turned to look at the door once again.
"We should go." Dali came closer to Zen and said this while looking at him.
"You're right." Zen replied and proceeded to head towards the door.
The door was made out of metal or something similar, which was weird in such a desolate place that looked like the backrooms but was more dangerous.
Zen opened it slowly, and on the other side was another corridor with 3 turns, 2 at the end and one to the right midway.
"There seems to be no traps here, Follow me." Zen ordered, and the group looked at each other and did so.
The corridor wasn't long, and the group quickly found themselves in front of the first turn, and inside of it... was another chest.
"Good!" Melissa suddenly jumped as she rushed towards the chest.
"Be careful." Sabrina shouted, but Zen just raised his arm to tell her that there was no danger.
"Guys, look. There is another jug, water, and... I think this is a tent or something." She said, not knowing what the last thing was.
The group came closer to Melissa, and looking at the chest's inside, smiles appeared on their faces.
"Those are tents, small ones, and there are only 3." Sabrina took one look at the cylindrical tents and spoke.
"That's more than enough; you guys take one each, and me and Dali will share one." Zen proposed.
"Fine with me." Dali replied.
The girls in the group looked at each other and shrugged.
Zen proceeded to take all 3 tents, Melissa the jug of water, and Sabrina the packed jerkies.
Dali looked like he did not know what to say and was too shy to speak.
Zen led the way with Dali next to him and the girls behind, all of them silent.
Once they reached the intersection, Zen looked to his right and accidentally tripped on himself as one of the tents fell down to the floor.
"Ah." Zen caught himself mid fall and balanced himself out but he was still slightly embarrassed.
He wanted to squat down and grab the fallen tent, but Dali quickly moved towards it.
"Dali, No!" However, the second Dali caught the tent, he stepped on a block that clicked down with him.
