Chapter 22: Retreat!
"Huff, huff, what was that?" Melissa caught her knees as she huffed and puffed, not understanding what just happened. They've covered quite a distance from that room, but they were still close enough to return at any time.
"How do you want us to know?" Sabrina shouted back.
"That... was that a monster?" Dali asked, his face showing extreme terror.
"Maybe..." Max, who was next to him, replied.
"No... At least, not completely." Alex, who had managed to calm down, spoke, restraining his anger.
"What do you mean?" Zen asked; he had a good idea of what it was, yet he still asked.
"There was a game back in my world similar to this one. It was a children's game; when it said 'Green Light' it probably meant that we could move; then it said 'Red Light'. Usually, when that's said, those coming at the statue from behind shouldn't move, the second they so much as flinch... they're eliminated. But this statue took the game to another level." Alex explained, breathing out to calm himself down from time to time.
The group remained silent for a good while before Melissa approached Alex.
"So what do we have to do? I can't stay in this place any longer; the sooner we get out, the better." She asked, shouting with her full voice.
"Look, I'm not the one to tell you that; all I know is that you shouldn't move when it says 'Red Light'. But that's all I know; I'm not sure if it follows the same rules or not; it might just kill us all the second it turns its head." Alex replied.
"That man, all we need is someone fast, right?" She said, a confident smile on her face as she looked back at Speed, who nodded with pride.
"That's all. Let's go back; we don't have time to waste." Seeing Speed's reply, Melissa turned her back on the group, wanting to do what Zen always did and lead the way.
"What are you guys waiting for? Let's move!" Melissa turned back when she heard nobody following her and she shouted.
"Look, Melissa. We understand that you want to get out of this hell as soon as possible for a chance to live peacefully, but this time it's no joke. I can't guarantee your safety and you can't guarantee ours; if we die, it's the end. I'm sorry but we won't follow you." Zen looked at Melissa straight in the eyes and spoke, making the lady grit her teeth.
"Look here, you little bastard. don't think just because you lead the way a couple times you're some hotshot or something; I don't even remember the number of little shits like you I fucked up before I was thrown here. Sure, you don't want to follow me? Then stay here; don't come crying later when we open the way forward." Melissa, seeing as she had no need for Zen or the others anymore, showed her true self.
"This bitch!" Sabrina, hearing Melissa's words, had enough as she moved to pounce at her, but Zen stopped her and with a smile, he looked at Melissa.
"Go on." he said, Melissa looked at him and at Sabrina, who was held back by his arms, and turned back to return to the room. Speed nodded at the group and followed her.
"Why did you stop me? Why didn't you say anything?" Sabrina put distance between her and Zen, looked at him in the eyes and asked, anger visible on her face.
"It's not worth it." Was all Zen said as a reply.
"We won't be waiting for her; let's move." Looking at the remaining seven members of the group, Zen walked to the front once again as he announced.
"Why aren't we waiting here? What if they manage to open the door?" Yu, who was the first to walk behind Zen, asked.
"It's not safe anymore, now that we found something like that, there might be more along the way. We need more information." Zen replied.
"And where can we find such information?" Sabrina, who was on the far back, asked.
"You remember the first chest we found? I'm not sure but there was that little scroll. If we manage to find something like that, and if it really has information, then it would be a massive help." Zen told her.
And so, the group went on another search mission—the last and deadliest one.
---------------
"Those fucking bastards! Who do they think they are?" Melissa, who was walking side by side with Speed, cursed.
"Let's not bother wasting our words on them; we have something more important at hand." Speed spoke, his gaze on her chest.
"Oh, speed, you're so sweet." Melissa quickly changed to her disgusting flirty mode and stuck closer to Speed.
"When we're done with this little room, let's play a little game, just you and me." She said, putting her finger on her lips and then on his, making the prideful man smile flirtingly. Her charm trait was working wonders.
"Oh? I'm looking forward to it then." He said, looking in front of him.
The gate of death was right in front of them, with Changus' upper body still on the floor.
"Wait for me here." Speed told Melissa as she got took her distance from him, no longer sticking like a slut and looked at his wide back while he walked.
Speed stepped right next to Changus' body, not taking a single look at it and then gazed at the statue.
"G- G- G-" once again, the creaky voice was heard.
"Green light, right?" Before it could say anything, Speed squatted to gain momentum and spoke.
"Green Light!"
*Fwshhhh*
Speed exploded forward, crossing the 300 meter distance between the gate and the statue before it could say 'Red Light' once.
*Tap*
Speed tapped on the statue, as it didn't utter a single word after.
"You did!" Melissa ran towards him when she saw this, but soon she stopped.
"H- Help me."
