Chapter 16: Life after!
What happens after?
This was the question Dali asked.
Everybody looked somewhere, as they truly didn't have an answer.
"Haha, young man, we don't even know if we will survive in an hour; why think about something so far away." Speed laughed out loud and stated.
"You're right, but... Why are we doing all of this for? To come out of danger to somewhere safe? Or..." Dali replied, his words hitting the group deep within their fears.
He was right. Where they going out from this trial to a safe world or more danger and peril? Was it really worth it to do all of this.
Sabrina was more concerned about this. She had lost the love of her life—someone more important to her than herself. If she went all the way to the end and came out a winner, would she live a happy life that would make him proud or struggle just to see the light of the next day?
And more importantly, if she died right now, would she follow him? Was there a chance to meet up once again? If so...
"Don't get your hopes high." Alexander, the mood ruiner, spoke, once again gaining the angry gazes of the group.
"Don't look at me like that. Didn't you hear that voice speaking? This is the first trial. Heard that? F.i.r.s.t! That means there is a second, a third, and who knows how many after." And just like that, the room went into silence.
"There must be a way!" Lisa, unable to accept the truth, shouted, her eyes closed and hands clenched.
Once again, the group turned their gazes towards her.
"There must be a way... Life wasn't made to be this hard; this I am at least sure of." Lisa's voice softened; she tried to speak confidently but her mind fought to refuse these thoughts.
"Lisa, my dear. If you are in hell, that means you lost every chance you had to atone. If it only gets worse from here... I think that would make perfect sense." Melissa's words echoed out, breaking every last bit of confidence Lisa had in her thoughts.
"How many of us here will survive till the end? How many of us will die? We can never know. Look back; we killed many, and many of us died. Some we thought would never leave us, and some we thought were just too strong to die. You shouldn't get your hope-"
"Melissa Stop!" Before Melissa could finish her words, Sabrina, who had enough, shouted at full force, stopping the lady from finishing her talk.
"Didn't you have enough? While all of us here are hurting and losing hope, you go around flirting with everybody like a slut and acting all silly as if you're in heaven and not in hell. If you can't stop the itch to bitch around, then at least shut the fuck up." Sabrina exploded on Melissa, making the entire group concerned and not knowing what to say.
Everyone looked at the two of them, not wanting this to become a fully fledged battle between two members.
Alexander, however, had a smile on his face, while Zen...
"Sabrina, calm down, you don't have to go that far. Melissa, you two, don't try anything funny and just sit down." Zen first addressed Sabrina, who was still fuming and then looked at Melissa, whose face was red from anger and was about to get up and launch herself at the one who just berated her.
"Don't tell me what to do! Who does this bitch think she is to call me that? I'm not the one whose husband died; why should I cry and act all sad? Isn't this the correct situation to lighten up the mood." Melissa fought back; her words were convincing for some, while others who saw how she was acting from a logical point of view were more on Sabrina's side.
"The last thing we need right now is a battle." Alex, who couldn't just watch from the side, interfered.
"Sabrina, I know what you went through is not in any way easy, but let's calm down for a second. Melissa, I hope you can forget everything that went on here and look at the more important things."
"What we need right now is to get out of here. As fast as possible, don't forget we are in hell, and in that sentence back on the dark corridor, there might be some entity we don't know of that could come out and butcher every single one of us." he added.
"As Alex said." Zen confirmed. The group after that just went calm for the remainder of the day.
Speed and Melissa went back to their flirting, and Melissa, after a few minutes of being angry, started to slowly revert to her silly antics.
Sabrina, Lisa, Dali, Alex, and Max were also close to each other, sitting and talking, getting to know each other better as soon as Zen went to join them and they also invited Yu and Satoru, completing the group.
Changus and Alexander were alone, each taking his own little corner. One was just observing from the side, and the other was too depressed to care.
Time passed slowly and the atmosphere was still for as long as the group were waiting for someone to enter the room. Unfortunately, the day passed; they slept, woke up and nobody came.
Seeing this, Zen decided that it was about time they moved; rations were needed and they had to move as the group got more tense and anxious with each hour that passed.
"We'll be moving." Zen got up a few hours after everybody woke up and announced.
Alex, Max, and Yu, who were close to him, heard this and got up.
"Good Luck."
