Sneak Peak :

Alex sat at his desk, staring blankly at the board as the lesson droned on. His classmates occasionally stole glances at him, their whispers forming a faint but constant buzz in his ears. It was nothing new—they always watched him. His reputation had been sealed since he entered the academy: a quiet kid with a monster's strength.

And then there was the matter of Alexius, his ever-present feline companion, perched lazily on the desk beside him. Their teacher, Mr. Greenwood, had clarified that animals were not allowed in his classroom.

"Mr. Harrison," Mr. Greenwood said, pushing up his glasses and glaring at Alex. "How many times must I remind you that your... cat is a distraction to the learning environment?"

Alex didn't bother looking up. "He's not a distraction, sir. He's—"

"A menace, that's what he is," Mr. Greenwood interrupted. "Either he leaves, or I'm reporting this to the headmaster."

Alexius opened one eye lazily, tail flicking in annoyance. The air in the room grew heavier.

"Try it," Alexius muttered under his breath, his voice a silky growl only Alex could hear.

Before Alex could respond, a loud snicker broke through the tension. It was Marcus, leaning back in his chair with a cocky grin. "Oh come on, teach," Marcus said with a sneer. "The cat's the least of our worries. We've got a real monster in the room." His eyes flickered toward Alex, a mocking challenge in his gaze.

Several of the students giggled nervously. The word "monster" echoed in the air like a curse, a label that had followed Alex ever since his first day. He kept his face calm, as always, ignoring the sting of the word. But Marcus wasn't done.

"I mean," Marcus continued, standing up and flexing his hand. Sparks of electricity crackled between his fingers, a subtle display of the power granted to him by his contractor, Zeus. "Why don't you show us what you can really do, Harrison? Or are you too scared? Afraid you'll hurt someone?"

Alex still said nothing, refusing to give Marcus the satisfaction of a reaction. Instead, his gaze flicked over to the side where his older brother Leo sat, clinging to his arm like a koala, as usual. Leo's presence was a comfort—an unspoken bond that reminded Alex of the world outside the academy's suffocating walls.

Leo glared at Marcus from his perch, eyes narrowed in silent warning. "Back off, Marcus," Leo muttered. "You don't know what you're messing with."

Marcus only laughed, sparks growing brighter. "Oh, I think I do. I'm looking at a coward. One hiding behind his pet and his brother. You've been dodging every challenge I've thrown your way, Alex. Why not fight back for once?"

Alex sighed, finally lifting his eyes to meet Marcus'. "You don't want this fight, Marcus," Alex said quietly. His voice was calm, but there was a steel edge to it that sent a shiver down the spines of the students nearby.

The air seemed to hum with tension, and Alexius yawned, stretching out on the desk as if bored with the entire situation. But his eyes gleamed with something darker, something that made Marcus falter for just a moment.

"I'll take my chances," Marcus retorted, though there was less bravado in his voice now.

Alex stood slowly, gently shaking Leo off. His twin reluctantly let go but hovered close, ready to step in at any moment. Alex could feel the weight of every gaze in the room, waiting for his next move.

"Fine," Alex said, his voice carrying across the classroom. "But remember, Marcus. You asked for this."
