Chapter 81 - Chapter Eighty-one: Whispers of Doubt.

Min Jun and Soo Jeon's engagement brought them closer together, but it also stirred mixed reactions from those around them. While their closest friends celebrated the news with joy, not everyone shared their excitement.

One evening, Min Jun returned home from work, tossing his keys onto the table as he loosened his tie. Soo Jeon greeted him with a soft smile, handing him a glass of water. "Tough day?"

"Just a lot of meetings," he sighed, sinking into the couch. "But the project is finally coming together."

Soo Jeon sat beside him, gently massaging his shoulders. "I'm glad to hear that. You've been working so hard lately."

As he relaxed under her touch, his phone buzzed on the table. He glanced at it and hesitated before picking it up. The name on the screen made his jaw tighten—Ji-Eun.

Soo Jeon noticed the shift in his demeanor and gave him a questioning look. "Who is it?"

Min Jun hesitated for a moment. "It's Ji-Eun. She's been messaging me ever since we announced the engagement."

Soo Jeon's expression remained calm, but Min Jun could sense the underlying tension. "What does she want?"

"I'm not sure. I haven't responded to her," he said, turning off his phone. "But I think she's still trying to find a way to talk to me, to... win me back."

Soo Jeon nodded, keeping her emotions in check. "It doesn't surprise me. She was always determined."

"Don't worry," Min Jun reassured her, taking her hand. "I don't have any intentions of talking to her. You're the only one I care about."

Soo Jeon smiled softly, though the nagging thought of Ji-Eun's persistence lingered in the back of her mind. "I trust you," she said, her voice quiet. "But I also know that she won't stop easily."

Min Jun squeezed her hand, his gaze unwavering. "I'll handle it. I won't let her come between us."

Later that Night

As Soo Jeon lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts wandered. The peace they had found after their engagement felt fragile. She knew Ji-Eun wasn't someone to be underestimated, and despite her trust in Min Jun, the shadow of his past relationship hung over them like a cloud.

The next morning, Soo Jeon arrived at the ballet studio early for rehearsals. As she stretched and warmed up, her phone buzzed on the bench. It was a message from Eun-Ji, one of her closest friends in the company.

"Have you seen what Ji-Eun posted online?"

Soo Jeon's heart skipped a beat. She quickly unlocked her phone and opened the link Eun-Ji had sent. It was a social media post from Ji-Eun, a picture of her and Min Jun from years ago, smiling at each other, looking every bit the happy couple. The caption read:

"Some people never truly move on. #memories #unforgettable."

Soo Jeon's hands trembled slightly as she stared at the image. She knew it was an old photo, but the timing of Ji-Eun's post felt deliberate, calculated. A wave of unease washed over her, but she pushed it aside, determined not to let Ji-Eun's games affect her.

Later That Day: An Unexpected Encounter

That evening, Min Jun and Soo Jeon were having dinner together when Min Jun's phone rang again. This time, it wasn't a message—it was a call. And the caller ID showed Mrs. Kang.

Min Jun frowned as he answered. "Mother?"

Mrs. Kang's voice was sharp, cutting through the phone. "We need to talk, Min Jun. There's something important I need to discuss with you and Soo Jeon. Can you come to the house tomorrow evening?"

Min Jun glanced at Soo Jeon, sensing the underlying tension in his mother's tone. "What's this about?"

"It's better we talk in person," Mrs. Kang said, not revealing anything further. "Tomorrow. 7 PM. Don't be late."

Min Jun hung up and let out a long breath. "That didn't sound good."

Soo Jeon bit her lip, anxiety creeping in. "What do you think she wants to talk about?"

"I don't know," Min Jun said, running a hand through his hair. "But it's probably about us. She's never been fully on board with our relationship."

Soo Jeon's mind raced with possibilities. Could Ji-Eun have gotten to Mrs. Kang again? Was this another attempt to undermine their relationship?

Despite the unease that settled over them, Soo Jeon nodded. "We'll face whatever it is together."

Min Jun leaned forward, kissing her forehead gently. "Always."

The Calm Before the Storm

The following day passed in a blur of tension and anticipation. Soo Jeon went through the motions at rehearsal, her thoughts scattered as she prepared for the confrontation that awaited them at Min Jun's parents' house.

That evening, as they stood outside the grand entrance of the Kang family home, Soo Jeon took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. Min Jun squeezed her hand reassuringly, his own expression steeled with determination.

"We're in this together," he reminded her softly.

Soo Jeon nodded, straightening her shoulders as they stepped inside. Whatever awaited them behind those doors, they would face it head-on. Together.
