Chapter 11 - Finding Xulios.

Lyrien sped through the twisted streets of the lower sector, the roar of his motorbike echoing off the crumbling buildings around him. The air was thick with smoke and the lingering stench of decay. As he weaved through the debris-strewn roads, his mind raced, still reeling from the revelation of his past life and the newfound powers granted by the Nexus System.

He couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and anxiety. The system had awakened something deep within him—memories and abilities he had thought lost forever. But it had also stripped him of everything he knew, placing him in a world that was both familiar and alien.

The city around him was a bleak reflection of the world he once knew, transformed by a century of chaos and evolution. The buildings stood like skeletal remains of a once-great civilization, now twisted and scarred by battles fought in the shadows of a dying world. This place was unforgiving, where only the strongest survived. And Lyrien had every intention of being among them.

---

The journey was long, the broken roads and occasional packs of feral beasts forcing him to take detours. Finally, after what felt like hours, he reached the outskirts of the city where his hideout was located—a two-story abandoned building that stood at the edge of a desolate industrial area. The structure was worn down, covered in vines and graffiti, but it provided the perfect cover. It had been his sanctuary, a place where the lowest of the evolved dared not venture.

Lyrien dismounted his bike, his heightened senses alert for any signs of danger. The shadows shifted around him, but nothing moved that he couldn't see. He pushed the motorbike into a narrow alley beside the building, hiding it behind a rusted dumpster.

As he approached the building, his eyes flashed red, the heat vision scanning for any hidden threats. Satisfied that the coast was clear, he entered through a side door that had long lost its hinges. Inside, the darkness was suffocating, but Lyrien could see as clearly as if it were day.

He moved swiftly, navigating the cluttered hallways until he reached the small room he had claimed as his own. It was sparse, furnished only with a battered mattress on the floor, a makeshift desk, and a few scavenged supplies. The air was stale, filled with the scent of dust and old metal. But it was safe, and that was all that mattered.

---

The moment he sat down, the familiar black screen with shimmering silver characters appeared before him, floating in mid-air like a specter.

WELCOME BACK, LYRIEN VALTOR.

SYSTEM REINITIALIZING…

ANALYZING USER STATUS…

A stream of information poured across the screen, and Lyrien watched in silence, his heart pounding. The system was vast, filled with more information than he could comprehend. But as he focused, it began to organize itself, presenting him with a new set of details.

Lyrien leaned back, absorbing the information. His stats were far below what they had once been, but there was potential for growth. He could feel the latent power within him, waiting to be unlocked. The system, this Nexus, was the key.

He turned his focus to his abilities. The Heat Vision and Heightened Senses were just remnants of his true power—abilities that had carried over from his previous life. But they were nothing compared to what he once wielded. The Nexus System had bonded with him, but it had also stripped him down to the basics, forcing him to rebuild from the ground up.

---

The system's interface shimmered, and new information appeared.

NEXUS SYSTEM INSIGHT:

USER IS UNIQUE. UNLIKE THE EVOLVED OF THIS WORLD, USER DOES NOT REQUIRE AWAKENING. SYSTEM DETECTS A POWERFUL BOND WITH PREVIOUS LIFETIME. ALL THAT IS REQUIRED IS TRAINING TO REGAIN TRUE POTENTIAL.

Lyrien's eyes widened. The people of this world underwent a process known as Awakening to gain their powers. It was a ritual, a transformation that unlocked their potential based on their experiences and lineage. But he was different. He didn't need to awaken. All he needed was to train, to push himself beyond his limits, and the Nexus would do the rest.

The screen flickered, showing a new notification.

TRAINING PROTOCOL AVAILABLE. WOULD YOU LIKE TO INITIATE?

'Yes,' he thought, the word forming in his mind.

The screen changed again, presenting him with a new series of exercises and techniques designed to push his body to its limits. It was a brutal regimen, but he was no stranger to hardship. He had been a warrior in his past life, and that same determination burned within him now.

---

Lyrien closed his eyes, letting the memories of his past life flow through him. He had been a master of reality manipulation, a warrior whose name had struck fear into the hearts of his enemies. But that life was gone, replaced by this harsh new reality.

The system whispered in his mind, urging him to embrace this new beginning. The path ahead was unclear, but it was one he was determined to walk. He had lost everything once; he would not lose again.

As he opened his eyes, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. He would find his disciple, Xulios, and together they would uncover the mysteries of this world.

---

Suddenly, the screen flickered again, drawing his attention.

QUEST UPDATE: FIND YOUR DISCIPLE, XULIOS.

TRACKING…

ERROR: LOCATION UNKNOWN. POSSIBLE DISTANCE: WITHIN LOWER SECTOR.

NEW DIRECTIVE: EXPLORE LOWER SECTOR TO LOCATE DISCIPLE.

Lyrien frowned. The lower sector was a dangerous place, filled with the dregs of society and beasts that roamed the night. But if Xulios was here, he had to find him.

WARNING:

ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE THE LOWER SECTOR WITHOUT COMPLETING QUEST WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE PENALTY: DEATH OR DISCIPLE'S PERMANENT LOSS.

The system's cold, mechanical voice sent a shiver down his spine. The stakes were higher than he had anticipated. He couldn't afford to fail.

A new screen appeared, showing a rudimentary map of the lower sector. It highlighted areas he had yet to explore, marking potential locations where his disciple could be. The map was vague, but it was a start.

---

With a deep breath, Lyrien gathered his supplies, strapping the newly acquired dagger to his waist and securing the backpack over his shoulders. The Nexus had given him a second chance, and he would make the most of it.

He moved quickly, navigating the maze of streets with the help of the system's guidance. The city was a labyrinth of broken structures and forgotten alleyways, but he knew how to survive in such places.

Every step he took brought him closer to the unknown, the faint hope of finding his disciple driving him forward. The system's interface pulsed with each step, acting as a beacon to guide him through the darkness.

Suddenly, the system chimed.

POTENTIAL LEAD DETECTED: DISTANCE 1.2 KM NORTH. APPROACH WITH CAUTION.

Lyrien's heart skipped a beat. This was it—the first real clue. Without hesitation, he revved the motorbike and sped off, the thrill of the hunt coursing through his veins.

As he raced through the streets, he knew that this was only the beginning. The world was vast and filled with dangers, but he would face them all. He would find Xulios, unlock the full potential of the Nexus, and rise above the chaos that threatened to consume everything.

For now, the hunt was on.

---

The journey ahead was uncertain, but Lyrien was ready. The past and the present had converged, giving him the strength to face whatever challenges lay ahead. With the Nexus as his guide and the promise of power within his grasp, he would carve a path through this new world, one step at a time.

The echoes of the system's words lingered in his mind as he sped through the darkened streets:

SURVIVE, ADAPT, EVOLVE.

THE NEXUS IS YOUR KEY. THE WORLD AWAITS.

Lyrien grinned, his eyes gleaming with determination. This was his second chance, and he would not waste it.

The time for the weak Lyrien was over.

The conqueror would rise again.
