Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: A Plea on Foreign Soil

Seraphina's P.O.V

The world around me shifted in a whirl of light and sensation, and then I was standing in the middle of a darkened street, my feet cold against the concrete. Earth. The place I hadn't visited in years.

Everything felt alien, unfamiliar. The city hummed with life, but the sounds, the lights, the very air—it all seemed wrong, like a dream that didn't quite belong to me. I stood in place, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. Everything had changed.

Suddenly, a car rushed past me, its headlights blinding, the screech of its tires snapping me back to reality. I jumped back just in time as the vehicle sped by, its driver honking angrily.

"Watch where you're going!" a voice shouted from inside the car.

"Right," I muttered, a strange sense of disorientation sinking in. "Cars, humans... yes, I remember this." But it felt as if I were seeing it all for the first time.

I quickly regained my composure and, grounding myself, I cast a tracking spell. The heat of the spell wrapped around me like a subtle warmth, tugging at my core, leading me to the direction I needed to go. Soon, I found myself outside a secluded house, the place where Ethan's parents resided. I had no idea how they'd react to me being here, but it was my only choice. If anyone on this wretched planet could help me, it was them.

With a deep breath, I knocked on the door.

It creaked open slowly, revealing a pair of sharp, piercing eyes—Ethan's father, his presence looming darkly in the doorway. His gaze locked onto me, studying me with an unsettling familiarity. I barely had time to speak before his expression shifted into one of cold recognition.

"Witch," he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Before I could even open my mouth to explain, he lunged, inhuman speed making him a blur. His hand shot out, and a wave of power washed over me—dark, oppressive energy that threatened to crush me.

I staggered backward, narrowly dodging his strike. Behind him, I saw his wife—Ethan's mother—her eyes glowing with an unnatural hunger. They were vampires. I knew the strength they wielded, their deadly grace. It didn't matter that I was a witch. Against two vampires of their caliber, I had little chance.

They attacked together, synchronizing their movements with terrifying precision. Ethan's father thrust his hand toward me, sending a blast of force that sent me reeling. I quickly summoned a shield, the magic rippling out, but it only delayed their next move.

"Stay down, witch," his mother hissed, her voice like ice, as she too, stepped forward, her fangs gleaming in the dim light. The air between us seemed to crackle with tension.

I knew I had to move fast or risk being overwhelmed. A burst of energy erupted from my staff, but they were already too close. Ethan's father caught my wrist, his strength like iron as he twisted my arm behind my back. Pain exploded in my shoulder, but I forced myself to remain calm, drawing on what little strength I had left.

But their strength was overwhelming. They pushed me to the ground, pinning me beneath their combined power. Blood trickled from my lip as I gasped for breath, struggling to break free.

With a cruel laugh, Ethan's mother stepped back, giving her husband room to finish it. "Pathetic," she sneered.

The air around me was thick with the taste of defeat. I was at their mercy, and they were in no rush. They circled me, their eyes glinting with hunger and malice.

"Do you know why I'm here?" I whispered, barely able to lift my head from the cold ground. I could feel the weight of their presence drawing closer. "I came to warn you...."

"What are you babbling about, witch?" Ethan's father growled, ready to deliver the final blow.

I forced myself to speak, each word costing me more energy than the last. "Something terrible is happening and I can't stop it alone..."

Their footsteps faltered. The gleam of suspicion flickered in their eyes, and for a brief moment, they seemed to hesitate.

"I'm here because I need your help," I gasped. "Do you really think I'll come to visit two vampires without having a good reason to?."

They both froze, exchanging a tense look.

But the moment of hesitation didn't last long. The next second, Ethan's father was towering over me, his fangs bared.

"You think we're going to help you?" he snarled. "We're going to help the whole world by helping them get rid of one more anomality. People who can bend reality to their will shouldn't exist. They make the world a terrible place to live in."

But before I could respond, the air seemed to crackle with danger, and they closed in, intent on finishing what they'd started.

"I'm here because Ethan and Ava are in trouble. They could both die if we don't move fast." As I said that, they both froze in their tracks and that made me realize that maybe I should have just started the conversation with that. They're vampires, they're immortal. They don't care about the state of the world as long as every one of their own are alive and well.

"Where are they?"
