Chapter 21 - Test Run!

The sun was slowly setting over National City as time slowly ticked away. School had finished not too long ago, and the evening hustle of people heading home, heading to events and anything of the sort was at its peak. Thousands of people shuffling through the City.

Amidst this bustling backdrop, Kayn was in one of AEGIS's labs, his new suit looking magnificent as he wore it.

Kayn couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as he wore the suit. It felt absolutely amazing, perfectly matching his size and the fabric was incredibly comfortable, never mind the obvious other benefits which made it perfect for a SuperSuit.

"Ready for the field test?" Francis's voice pulled him from his thoughts.

Kayn turned to face his Francis, who stood with an eager smile, holding a sleek, black tablet. Francis was an invaluable asset—his technical expertise and unwavering loyalty made him the perfect person to oversee the technological advancements of AEGIS.

"Let's get to it," Kayn replied, nodding.

Francis led the way to a spacious, underground training facility within the headquarters. The room was a marvel of engineering—a vast expanse filled with advanced equipment, magically reinforced walls, and an array of simulated environments. It was here that Kayn would push the new suit to its limits.

As they entered the facility, Kayn took in the sight of the arena-like space, the ceiling high above and the walls lined with various pieces of technology that could create different scenarios for training.

Francis tapped a few commands into his tablet, and the room shifted, transforming into a dense urban landscape complete with towering buildings, narrow alleys, and a scattering of vehicles.

It was a Magical Environmental Formation, activated by a Magically infused tablet in Francis' hand.

Francis adjusted his glasses, eyes scanning the tablet in his hands. "Alright, boss. All systems are green. The suit's Mana Formations are stable, and the energy conduits are operating at optimal efficiency."

Kayn flexed his fingers, feeling the suit respond seamlessly to his movements. The fabric was lightweight yet sturdy, and the mana formations embedded within thrummed softly, attuned to his own energy.

"Feels good," Kayn remarked, his voice deeper and more confident than when he is in his normal persona.

The suit felt like a second skin—lightweight but impossibly strong. As the material settled against his body, Kayn could feel the energy flowing through it, a subtle hum that connected with his own Mana.

The cloak draped over his shoulders, completing the look, and Kayn felt an immediate sense of empowerment.

"Time to see what this can do," Kayn said, flexing his fingers as lightning cackled in his hand.

Francis nodded and stepped back, tapping a few more commands into his tablet. "I've programmed a few scenarios for you to test the suit's capabilities. First up, let's see how it handles in a high-speed movement."

The urban environment around them sprang to life. The sound of engines roaring, the blur of moving vehicles, and the distant cries of pedestrians created a chaotic atmosphere.

Kayn reacted instantly. He shot forward, using his Superhuman speed. The buildings blurred as he moved with supernatural swiftness, his mind focused on the target.

High speed movement would usually create such a level of friction that it would destroy normal clothing, but Kayn's suit as expected was perfectly fine, no issues.

Within moments, he had caught up to the speeding vehicle. With a leap, Kayn landed on the car's roof, leaping forward and crashing through the window of a building, running swiftly and roughly through walls at an intense speed, testing the suit to the highest level.

Francis's voice crackled through the earpiece embedded in the suit's collar. "Good. Now let's try the suit's durability."

Suddenly, the environment changed from a city to a desert with dozens of men holding guns and magical attacks prepared. The attacks all barraged Kayn, or more specifically, the suit.

~BOOM~BOOM~BOOM!

Explosions occurred as all of the attacks crashed into Kayn's body, but when the dust settled, everything was fine, the suit didn't even have a scratch. The suit was perfect seemingly, and all of the tests were going perfectly well so far.

But just as he was finishing the final simulated enemy, a loud alarm blared throughout the facility, cutting through the simulation and filling the room with a sense of urgency.

Suddenly, a blaring alarm cut through their communication.

"What's going on?" Kayn asked, scanning the data.

Francis's expression turned grim as he accessed the city-wide surveillance feeds through the tablets, "We're picking up reports of unidentified creatures attacking civilians. Originating from multiple points but converging towards downtown."

The room returned to it's normal form and Kayn followed Francis to his office, monitors on the walls all flashing images of grotesque beings with twisted limbs, razor-sharp claws, and pulsating masses of flesh. Their appearances were nightmarish, resembling failed experiments rather than any known species.

"CADMUS," Kayn spat, recognizing the organization's penchant for creating abominations. It was the only place he knew created abominations like this.

Francis nodded. "It seems they've unleashed their latest projects. The city's in chaos."

Kayn didn't hesitate. "I'm moving in."

"Be careful," Francis warned, he knew his boss was more than strong enough to survive, but he still couldn't help but he a little worried.

With that, Kayn moved to the roof and launched himself into air, flying off. His cloak billowed behind him as he flew at a SuperHuman speed, his eyes scanning the streets below for signs of the creatures.

Downtown National City was a scene of pandemonium. Screams echoed through the streets as civilians ran in terror, trying to escape the monstrous onslaught. Vehicles lay overturned, storefronts shattered, and fires raged uncontrolled.

It didn't take long to find them. The first signs of chaos were evident in the distance—smoke rising from destroyed vehicles, the sound of terrified screams, and the unmistakable sight of grotesque creatures rampaging through the streets.

These monsters were a horrifying fusion of organic and mechanical parts, their bodies twisted and deformed, with jagged metal protrusions jutting from their flesh.

Kayn didn't hesitate. He descended rapidly, landing in the midst of the chaos with a powerful shockwave that sent the nearest creature stumbling back.

The civilians nearby screamed and scattered, but their fear quickly turned to awe as they saw the figure in the purple suit. They didn't recognize him, but they at least hoped he was a Superhero sent to help them.

"Get to safety!" Kayn shouted out, amplifying his voice with Magic to spread across the entire surrounding area.

One of the monster's lunged at him, its maw open wide revealing rows of jagged teeth. Kayn sidestepped effortlessly, his enhanced reflexes allowing him to dodge its attack.

He countered with a swift palm strike, channeling mana to amplify the force. The creature was sent hurtling back, crashing into a wall.

Another approached from behind, but Kayn's Six Eyes alerted him to its movements. He spun around, conjuring a mana blade that sliced cleanly through the creature's torso. It let out a guttural screech before collapsing.

Kayn looked to the left, his senses tingling as he heard the heavy breathing of panicking civilians. Kayn glanced up and spotted a group of people huddled near a window, fear etched on their faces. Without wasting time, he flew up to them.

"Stay calm," he instructed, extending his hand. "I'll get you out of here."

One by one, he ferried them to safety, depositing them a safe distance away from the conflict zone. As he returned to the fray, he noticed more of the creatures emerging from the sewer grates and alleys.

"This isn't random," Kayn mused. "They're being directed."

Before Kayn could respond, a particularly massive creature barreled towards him. Standing over ten feet tall, its bulging muscles and armored hide made it a formidable foe.

"Αλυσίδες του Άρη." Kayn muttered as mystical symbols appeared in his palms. Flaming chains appeared, flashing towards the creature with sickening speed and immediately wrapping around it, burning its skin.

"AAARRRRUUUUU!" The monster roared and wailed angrily.

Channeling mana into his fists, Kayn delivered a devastating uppercut, lifting the creature off its feet and sending it crashing into a nearby fountain.

"Χτύπημα του θεού," Kayn muttered, fearsome purple lightning cackling in his hands as he shot it towards the monster, vaporizing it into dust instantaneously.

The other creatures turned their attention to him, their glowing red eyes locking onto their new target. Kayn quickly assessed the situation—there were at least a dozen of them, each one armed with lethal-looking claws and blades.

Their movements were erratic, but there was a disturbing level of intelligence in their coordination, as if they were being controlled by a single, malevolent mind.

Kayn reached out with his Mana, feeling the flow of energy around him. The Six Eyes he had acquired earlier that day activated, allowing him to see the intricate network of Mana that coursed through the creatures' bodies.

It was a grotesque combination of technology and magic, something that should never have existed.

With a swift motion, Kayn unleashed a barrage of Mana blasts, each one striking with pinpoint accuracy. The creatures recoiled as the energy tore through their bodies, disrupting the delicate balance of their cybernetic enhancements.

But they were resilient, their twisted forms quickly regenerating as they continued their assault. Kayn narrowed his eyes, realizing that conventional attacks wouldn't be enough. He needed to cut off the source of their power or vaporized instantaneously.

Kayn gathered his energy, focusing it into a concentrated beam of pure Mana. With a quick movement, he directed the beam towards the nearest creature's chest. The beam struck true, piercing through its metal-and-flesh exterior and hitting the core.

The creature let out a distorted screech as the core shattered, and it collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

~BOOM~BOOM!

Explosions rampaged through the city as Kayn engaged in battles with the monsters, annihilating them one by one as he moved closer and closer to the potential source of the attacks.
