Adriel cracked one eye open to see why Ein was patting him. "What are you doing?"
"Every time I touch you, I can see Hale. When I let go, he disappears." Ein poked Adriel, then lifted his hand for demonstration, "Now I see him, now I don't."
"Oh..." Adriel murmured, fidgeting as he turned his attention back to the evil spirit. "But why isn't it speaking?"
Hale's expression soured, clearly annoyed by their conversation. He had been silently glaring at them, his irritation growing with every moment.
"Neither of you greeted me," the evil spirit finally grumbled, retreating into his shadow to sulk. "Why would I speak if you're talking about me like I'm not here and calling me 'it'?"
From within the shadow, Hale kept muttering under his breath. "No respect, no manners. Didn't even offer me a proper welcome."
