Avery tossed the phone to Ein. "I thought you might want it back."
Ein caught it, staring at him, waiting to be confronted. Had Avery not seen it? There was no way he'd pass up a chance to snoop after everything that had gone down lately.
"What's up with you?" Avery chuckled. "Did Dean give you a hard time?"
He was acting casual, like normal. Not sly casual—just casual. Ein looked down and tapped his screen. It didn't light up.
Ein turned the phone over in his hand, his heart rate slowing. It was out of battery. Maybe it hadn't been that close of a call after all.
Avery scanned him up and down. "Ready to go?"
"Go?" Ein looked up, dazed. "Where?"
"Home. I'll drive you."
Home. It sounded almost laughable. What address was he supposed to give Avery? Definitely not Adriel's.
Ein forced a tight smile, trying to disguise the sinking feeling inside.
