Soft rain hitting the windowpane by the bed where laid Bliss on her warm and cozy bed. She rented this place called 'Destinée Amoureuse' not long ago. Her landlady was a huge admirer of the country France and thus she loved to name things with French words. Bliss didn't really care as long as she got a place to stay.
Now that Bliss had her own room and a lot of personal space she was very happy . She finally got to stay in room she had always been dreaming of. She enjoyed the sound of rain with her eyes closed, as she laid inside her soft furry blanket. A soft whimper beneath her bed caught her attention. She peeped down and saw the puppy she bought a few days ago. It looked scared and anxious. It was understandable, as the poor fellow was sold off to Bliss right after its birth. She picked it up onto the bed and gave gently booped it. She took it inside the blanket with her. " Do you miss your mamma?", she gently said softly patting its head. "I will take proper care of you and love you a lot. so don't cry okay?", she cooed to it as she continued patting it's tiny head with her fingers . Both of them fell asleep straight till evening until a knock on the door woke her up. She opened the door and found Mrs. John with a pot in her hands and a wide smile on her face. Bliss doesn't like much of human interaction which was one of the many reason she rented a place in a region with sparse population in order to live the peaceful life she wanted. So she wasn't very pleased to see the lady at her door. But it was inevitable to avoid her, for she was the landlady! Thus all Bliss could do was to force a wide smile back as she couldn't afford to offend her. "H- hi Mrs. John. How may i help you?", Bliss asked trying to make the conversation as short as possible as she didn't want to drag a long conversation and finish writing her new novel that she was working on for almost a year. Bliss loves writing but she has a very inconsistent nature which often let her stories remain incomplete. " Common you tiny thing. How could you even possibly help me with those tiny hands of your?", replied Mrs. John with a warm sarcastic tone. Bliss felt the words pierced through her body and tried to give her awkward laugh. "Haha. Don't worry. I am against child labor ", she continued to laugh that almost scared the soul out of Bliss's body. "Here. take this wonton soup I recently learned from a Chinese cuisine video. I mixed some local herbs too. Try it and let me know your feedback." Mrs. John is a huge fan of cooking and always likes to make fusion food. She handed the pot to Bliss reminding her to return the pot and left saying that her Husband's relative was coming over. Bliss kept staring as Mrs. John left still trying to figure out what just happened. Suddenly a thunder sound hit the area and she immediately went into the room. The first thing she did was to put the pot on the table and picking up the puppy embracing it so that it won't be scared. " Such a big mouth she is right? No filter at all. But that's what I actually like about her.", Bliss said looking at the puppy. Bliss didn't mind Mrs. John calling her tiny and it was quite literally making sense for Mrs. John was a 6.1 ft tall woman while Bliss was barely 5 and Mrs. John was a genuine person to her from the very first day they met.
" Oh! Look at the time. its almost 6.30! you must be hungry. Let me prepare your food.", said Bliss as she entered the kitchen. The pot on the table caught her sight and she said and smiled, "She must be a great mom. Right?" The puppy, barely able to see would just listen to her with its head tilting slightly towards her voice.
Bliss had the wonton soup and it was really suitable to her taste. She really wished so bad that she could say the phrase ' It tastes like home'. But she knew it wouldn't mean the ' home' she wanted it to mean if she uttered the phrase. So she just ended up saying," it suits my taste well." Amidst all this she again lost her motivation to complete the story and ended up sleeping early that night.
The next morning it already stopped raining and she was woken up by the mild rays of morning sunshine hitting her face. She barely opened her eyes as she went on complaining to her little companion how it had her change 2 bad sheets the previous night for not controlling it's pee. Meanwhile it was sound asleep not batting an eye to her. " Did i bring home a devil.", she whispered to herself and went back to sleep after she drew the curtains.
It was already 10:00 in the morning when Bliss finally woke up. The city was stirring, a cacophony of car horns and distant shouts already filled the air. Though the place where she lived was quiet, one could hear faint car noises from the city. Bliss, in her faded jeans and an oversized hoodie, stepped out of her first-floor apartment into the refreshed day light holding the puppy in her arms. As she walked towards the main exit all she could hope for was to not meet Mrs. John. Not seeing her around Bliss breathed a sigh of relief.
A sharp "Good morning, Bliss!" cut through her morning reverie. She groaned inwardly. Of course it was her landlady, Mrs. John, a woman with an uncanny ability to appear when least wanted. Bliss turned slowly, with a mask of indifference plastered on her face. And there stood Mrs. John in her cotton dress secured with an apron and rubber gloves in her hand. The morning sun glinted off the woman's shiny cheekbones as he smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "He- hello Mrs. John. What are you doing at this hour of the morning?", she asked with an immediate regret of asking a question with an obvious answer right in front of her. " Woah! isn't it obvious enough you little? Weeding of course.", Bliss got an expected response word by word. "Hehe", she gave out an awkward laugh. "Other things aside.", Saying that, Mrs. John went closure and asked," So? How was the wonton soup? what's your review?"
" Ohhh....Y-yeah. It was really tasty. I honestly loved the fusion of the local flavors. It tasted like magic unicorn danced and sprinkled fairy dust on the food.", Bliss replied ( Again with an instant regret for overpraising though she really likes it). "Well I sho-". "Oh, you sweet little thing," Mrs. John exclaimed in excitement. As if to punctuate her endearment, she gave Bliss a friendly shove on the shoulder. Friendly, that is, if you were built like a linebacker. To Bliss, who was about as imposing as a particularly sturdy houseplant, it felt like a cannonball had grazed her. she careened backwards, narrowly avoiding a spectacular face-plant thanks to the desperate clutch at the nearest gatepost. The puppy almost squeaked it's lungs out. Meanwhile, Mrs. John, oblivious to the near-disaster she'd caused, was basking in the glow of Bliss's compliments, her smile as wide as the Grand Canyon.
"Oh, Bliss dear, you're too kind," Mrs. John chuckled, her voice as warm as her wonton soup. "Just a little push to show my appreciation." she added. Bliss, still recovering from her near-death experience, managed a weak smile. "A little push," she echoed, her voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and amusement.
" Oh! by the way, were you heading out to somewhere earlier?", Mrs. John asked with wonder. " Damn!", Bliss exclaimed and instinctively hit her forehead with her palm. " Sorry Mrs. John I have to leave. We have an appointment with the vet and we are already running late. Bye bye. See you later", She said as she left the front gate. " I hope I don't anytime soon", She whispered.
"Enjoy your day", shouted Mrs. John with a smile hoping her voice would reach Bliss. Mrs. John liked Bliss unconditionally from the day they first met. She treated Bliss like her daughter. However, Bliss always avoids anyone who would try to be close to her.
Bliss took the bus at the station. As the bus drove into the main city and looked around, the city looked like a big, gray jungle with tall buildings and lots of roads. She felt anxious looking at all the complexes and looked away from the window. She prefers being alone in her apartment as she doesn't like new places much and found public transports always packed moreover cabs took forever to reach. But she had to take her puppy to the vet so she had no other choice and unwillingly rode the bus.
After riding the bus for about 30 mins, Bliss reached the clinic. "Lets go", she said looking at her puppy as if it could understand her. Bliss being a socially awkward person, hated the job of going to any kind of professionals. They made her heel anxious for some reason and she didn't like that feeling. Even when she was standing in front of the clinic entrance which boldly wrote the word 'OPEN', she was still hoping for it to be closed. " I wish the world ends right now.", she talked to herself as she tried to enter the clinic. The moment she was about to hold the handle of the door, it was opened by someone from the opposite side. The wind chimes tinkled and startled the already anxious enough Bliss. She got distracted and skipped two steps out of the 5 without realizing and her foot landed straight onto the third step. By the time she could get a grip she slipped and fall hard on the ground landing on her knee. However she managed to save the puppy. A passerby helped her up and tried to make sure if she was okay. Meanwhile Bliss with her face reddened out of embarrassment thanked the old man and rushed into the clinic.
" Quite a heroic landing", someone said. Bliss, who was looking at her puppy trying to make sure that it was okay, raised her head and found a girl, about her age sitting infront of her with a notepad in her arms." So pretty...The one above must have taken their time to create her", she wondered in awe admiring the person's beautiful facial harmony.
Bliss blushed and rubbed her nose. Clearing her throat she said," I have an appointment today." "You? So which species of animal do you identify as?", with a smirk the girl asked. Bliss's face reddened with the overwhelming feeling of shyness and embarrassment as she felt a little stupid about her response. " So pretty yet so mean. what a waste!", Bliss thought. But before she could defend herself with another response, the vet Mr. Charles, a man in his 40s came out from his chamber.
The feeling of a strange tension between Bliss and the girl hit Mr. Charles right away as soon as he reached. "Ah ha ha! What a nice day to meet new people", he said attempting to lighten the mood. "NO", both of them replied together. " Don't copy me", the girl said rolling her eyes at Bliss. "As if! You think you are a celebrity or something? and FYI, I am least interested in their lives.", Bliss replied furiously.
The girl started making faces which made Bliss even more annoyed. "You little- what are you a kindergartener or what?" Bliss said. But to annoy her more, the girl started mimicking her word by word. Bliss got really pissed this time." You-", she was about to say more when Mr. Charles stopped them and asked the girl to sort out other files.
Charles apologized to Bliss on her behalf and told that it was his niece who she just met. He then took the puppy for some regular checkup. During the checkup he asked Bliss if she decided on any names for her puppy. It was only then when she realized that she had yet to name it. All she could remember was calling it 'Hey'. Mr. Charles suggested her to think of a name for the puppy before it grew accustomed to random word thinking it as his name. After the checkup was done he just suggested some food suitable for the puppy and advised Bliss to continue taking care until it could properly see. Bliss thanked the him and left the clinic.
By the time she was done with the shopping of the basic necessities of her puppy it was already 7.00 pm. She wanted to hurry so could get the last bus to the town where she lived. She ran fast with all her strength to the bus stop holding the puppy in one arm and the stuffs she bought in her other hand. By the time she reached the stop, she was drenched in sweat.
Looking at the crowd at the stop her anxiety peaked. She almost gave up her hopes to even get on the bus. Let alone getting a seat. People were scattered all over the place and it made her feel a little uncomfortable. She tried to look here and there hoping to find a spot that could help her easily get in. However deep down she knew it would be quite impossible.
Ten minutes passed, and then the familiar honk of the bus fell into Bliss's ears. She could see people scrambling for a spot, some even forming lines. She wanted to board, but the thought of hurting the puppy in the ensuing chaos made her hesitate.
Suddenly, a cold hand gripped hers, pulling her through the crowd. Bliss squeezed her eyes shut and clutched the puppy tightly, trying to block out the commotion. After a frantic struggle, they managed to secure two seats at the bus's back. Her heart raced as she looked beside her, hoping against hope it wasn't a girl . But to her dismay, it was. And on top of that, it was none other than the girl she met at the clinic.
"You?" Bliss exclaimed, her voice loud enough to turn heads inside the bus. Realizing her outburst, she apologized to the passengers. The girl merely snorted, rolling her eyes. Despite her attitude, Bliss was grateful for the help. She offered her thanks, but the girl's only response was another indifferent 'hmph' as she cooed at the puppy.
Bliss sighed, thinking the girl was simply beautiful on the outside. When the girl got off two stops before Bliss's, she kissed the puppy goodbye but gave Bliss another dismissive glance. "Ugh, so annoying," Bliss muttered, though a small part of her admired the girl's confidence.
Bliss reached her place and finally breathed in relief. She threw herself on the bed and held the puppy in air. " Name you?", she mumbled looking at the puppy. The puppy was beautiful and it had soft golden fur. Bliss often found it playing with morning dew when it was left in the garden though he could hardly see. "Got it! Dewie . You are Dewie forthwith.", saying this she sat up on her bed. " Let have a wonderful journey together." she added as she continued to play with him.
