Chapter 150 - Volume 2 Chapter 150 - The Beggar

Previously, Kai had never thought that cultivation could affect your lifespan. But when he started to look into it, he realised that it made sense.

Already in the Cultivator realm, simple alcohol didn't pierce through Kai. It was literally the very thing that the body suppressed weak poisons on its own with incredible ease. Also the level of regeneration and recovery. Reduced sleep and other factors. All of these pointed to a strengthening of the body and health, potentially leading to a lengthening of life.

Brick was told that old monsters of the Great Elder level, could live for a very long time. There were rumours that some of them were over two hundred years old. For martial artists, the chance of dying in battle or cultivation was much higher than that of old age.

They constantly took risks, for that was the only way to improve. And the higher the degree of cultivation, the harder it was to advance to the next stage. Brick had told him that going to the Attraction Sphere came with huge risks. Even if you could come close to breaking through, there was a chance of dying at the moment of transition. The slightest insecurity, or inattention can lead to a fatal mistake.

Walking through the city and looking at the merchants in the Cultivator realm, Kai smiled.

"What interesting methods... They are most likely constantly taking expensive pills and ingredients to imbue their bodies with energy. Even if they don't use any, serious cultivation technique, they can improve their health and extend their lives by a dozen years. A truly amazing city... To ordinary mortals, all of this would seem like a miracle! Even I'm surprised..." - Hovering in thought, Kai advanced through the streets of the city.

He did not go to one of the five main roads, for there were too many people there. Such a thing was starting to make Kai dizzy.....

Kai decided to take the smaller roads that ran parallel to each other. All he had to do was walk towards the wall that separated the Shadow Sect from the rest of the Shadow City.

Sometimes, he would get to beautiful squares where there were fountains and various street musicians playing. Other times, he passed through beautiful parks that were tastefully made. It was obvious that the trees and grasses were not planted at random.

Kai was in no hurry to get anywhere and walked with a calm, measured stride. Time passed and the sun began to slowly fade into the sunset. The darker it got, the more the city transformed. Lanterns began to burn everywhere. Except when he looked closer, Kai realised that the fire inside them wasn't fire, but special stones.

"Wow... They all started to light up automatically... It seems like there's an array system spread throughout the city. And it's probably placed under the tiles of the streets..." - Kai thought.

It made perfect sense. If everything in the controlled Beast Border City was packed with arrays, it would be strange if the main city didn't have the same.

- Taks... We need to find an inn, that's enough walking for today. - Said to himself Kai, looking around.

He was now in the middle of a beautiful park that was lit up with a light. It wasn't very big, if you looked closely, you could see the buildings of the city through the trees in the distance.

"Hmm... What's that?" - Kai thought, looking ahead.

He noticed a large wooden building peeking through the trees about two hundred metres away from him. He only noticed it because it was also lit up.

Kai's sense of curiosity awoke. He decided to go and see what was there. And if nothing interesting, he would go look for an inn.

Thinking about it, Kai quietly walked towards the building.

After about five minutes, coming out from behind the trees, he saw a large and beautiful mahogany building. It was several stories high and was placed in the middle of a small lake. Across the waters was a beautiful, brightly lit bridge.

What surprised Kai the most was that there were people constantly moving across the bridge. And they looked quite neat and expensive.

- Hehehe... What's that? We'll have to see. - Smiling, Kai said.

After thinking about it, Kai also decided to enter the building and see what it was all about. He had a suspicion that it might be some kind of restaurant. Right now, he didn't mind drinking the local alcohol and eating. Kai wasn't worried about money, for there was plenty of it in his ring.

Even by the standards of the City of Shadow, Kai could be considered a fairly wealthy man....

As Kai travelled across the bridge, many people gave him strange looks. But as always, he didn't pay any attention to it at all.

In fact, right now, Kai didn't look very tidy... After the long journey, he hadn't even washed his face. Although he didn't stink, he definitely wasn't the first freshness. Walking on the bridge, he stood out very much from the surrounding people.

- Ugh... Is this a beggar? - One of the old ladies passing by Kai said squeamishly.

Hearing that, Kai just smiled and let those words pass through his ears. He continued walking towards the entrance of the building.

- Stop! Where are you going! - The guard's rough voice rang out.

At that moment, someone put out a hand in front of Kai, stopping him. And behind her, the vast halls where people were feasting could be seen.

"Bingo, this really is some good restaurant!" - Shouted Kai in his head, starting to smile.

- Are you deaf? - The guard asked irritatedly.

- Huh? Yes, as a matter of fact, I want to eat at your place. Hehehe. - Said Kai and started smiling widely.

- What is this? Since when did they start letting vagrants in here? - A voice came from behind Kai.

Turning around, he saw a group of beautiful girls standing behind him. But most importantly, each of them was dressed in black robes! And on their chests were purple hieroglyphics! They were all core disciples of the Shadow Sect!

- Welcome Gentlemen! The Golden Lotus Restaurant welcomes you! - Pushing Kai aside, a guard stepped forward.

He respectfully bowed to the girls, and showed his hand for them to pass.

- Let's go quickly, I don't want to be near a filthy animal! - Said one of the girls.

She had quite a sexy appearance and lush breasts.

Looking at that, Kai didn't care much and turned round to the guard.

- Brother, so can I go through? - Asked Kai.

- Hmm... This is a pretty expensive place, do you have money? - The guard asked sceptically.

- Ah! So you were worried about that? Of course I do! Hehehe. - Laughing Kai said and a large mound of energy crystals began to appear in his palm.

Watching this, the guard's eyes widened greatly and he quickly straightened his back.

- Forgive me for being rude Mister! Take a walk! - A little frightened, he said.

- Don't sweat it... I realise that's the job you have. This is for you! - Kai said with a smile and threw one crystal to the guard.

- Thank you! - The guard quickly gave out and bowed.

He didn't actually chase Kai away gratuitously for a specific reason. It wasn't because of the guard's kindness... It's just that some martial artists are rather eccentric. Although they may look strange, they are the kind of individuals who should not be offended.

It was just that Kai looked quite young, and it was unlikely that he could be a powerful eccentric master. But still, the guard decided to be reassured. That was why his treatment was twofold. On the one hand he didn't send him away, on the other he didn't show him the respect he deserved.

The amount of money he was shown quickly put him in his place and he immediately regretted that he had been disrespectful. But Kai didn't seem to care much about that, so the guard relaxed. Plus, he also received a crystal as a gift.

After finishing things with the guard, Kai went to the entrance of the establishment with a smile. There was actually a small area behind the bridge. And the entrance to the restaurant appeared to be a large archway. The design of this restaurant was quite amazing.

When the girl standing at the entrance saw him, she quickly said hello to him and offered to escort him to a table. It seemed to be one of the employees of the establishment. She didn't say anything at all about Kai's appearance. If the guard let him in, then this man had money!
