Kai calmly walked out of the Source Tower and headed towards the Trade and Research Union's headquarters. He looked around at his surroundings, and was even in a slightly melancholic mood.
As he walked, he realised that he would soon be leaving this city. And along with it, all of his friends.....
Earlier, the Head of the Border Beast City had given Kai a letter of recommendation with his seal. It was written on a beautiful golden leaf. Aside from the physical seal, the Head had also left a trace with his energy. Thus, the authenticity of this letter was guaranteed.
He also explained the approximate course of action for Kai. The Shadow Sect was located in the east of the continent. The Border Beast City was protecting the northern borders. So he needed to move to the southeast.
The head said that Kai needed to come to Shadow City, where the Shadow Sect itself was located. From there, he would find out everything on his own. With a letter of recommendation, he shouldn't have much trouble.
Most likely, the journey would be quite long and would take Kai a decent amount of time. In terms of distance, it was a third of the way he and Diso had travelled to the Border Beast City. Unless Kai could find a travelling trade caravan, the journey could take a whole month.
Thinking about it, Kai slowly approached the headquarters. But he didn't enter it directly. He used Shadow Marks and stealthily snuck inside. Slowly moving through the corridors, he approached Diso's office. Kai slowly opened the door and stepped inside.
- Hello Brother Diso! - Kai said with a smile.
- Ooh! Brother Kai, you're back! How did it go, how was your training? - Quickly jumping up, Diso asked.
- It went perfectly, I'm already in the Cloud Sphere! Hehehe. - Laughing said Kai.
- Wow... I didn't expect anything less from you Brother Kai! - Diso said in admiration.
- And how are you guys doing? - Asked Kai.
- Brother, everything is just fine! Of course, your fight with the bastard Fashur made a lot of noise... But in the end, it was good for us. Even Tandu the peacock calmed down and got away from us. - Smiling, Diso vigorously narrated.
- That's good! Fatty, let's have a drink! Finish all your business for today! - Smiling said Kai.
- Brother Kai, you seem strange... Is everything alright? - Suspiciously asked Diso.
Saying that, he went to his table to get some better wine.
- Of course Brother Diso. It's just... It'll probably be a while before we see each other next time. Heh-heh. - Kai said with a slightly melancholy expression.
- Ehhh... I knew it would be like this. - Shaking his head, Diso said.
He picked up two large wine barrels and walked over to the table. Setting them down, he shifted his gaze to Kai and said:
- Brother... This development is quite natural... And in principle, I'm used to not seeing you for months. I've been used to not seeing you for over a year! Hahaha. - Diso laughed loudly, defusing the situation.
It seemed that both Kai and Diso understood everything that was going on. They realised that most likely their next meeting would be very soon. Perhaps they would be separated by whole years.
But also, Diso understood that there was nothing for Kai to do in this city. His potential could only be realised in Shadow Sect level power. Asking Kai to stay would be very selfish of him. Kai had already done so much for the Trade and Research Union. It could be said that he had prepared a solid foundation, for one of the strongest organisations in the city in the future.
In turn, Kai also realised that Diso had no chance of joining the Shadow Sect. Also, the latter had put a huge amount of effort into nurturing the alliance in Border Beast City. If Fatty stayed here, he would have incredible potential for development. Dragging him along was pointless....
Watching Diso laughing, Kai smiled as well.
- ''Brother Diso, do you remember how we steamed in the hot springs after arriving at the Border Beast City? Back then, we speculated about how we would do great things. And lo and behold, it wasn't long before we were right! Hahaha. - Laughing sincerely, Kai said.
- And sure enough! You're totally right! When I arrived here, I didn't even hope for such an outcome... It seems that picking you up on the road to Lord Flick's Mansion was the best decision I ever made! Hahaha. - Diso replied with a laugh.
- Actually, that's my point... Do you want to go to the hot springs? I'll most likely be heading off in the direction of the Shadow Sect tomorrow. So, why not enjoy today to the max? - Smilingly suggested Kai.
- Hmm... Good idea Brother Kai! I'll cancel all business for today! Since it's like this, we have to get drunk! I don't know when I'll be able to have a drink with my Brother next time! Hahaha! - Diso replied cheerfully.
He quickly took the two wine barrels under his arms and took a step towards the door.
- Oh, right... Don't you want to say goodbye to the others? - Turning his head round, Diso asked.
- I don't think that's necessary... It'll be much better if you tell them that I've gone off to seek adventure indefinitely. I don't want all that snot. Hehehe. - Kai said with a laugh.
- Damn... Thank you for at least saying goodbye to me! It's nothing unusual, that's what you are! Hahaha. - Diso laughed, while simultaneously teasing Kai.
Kai realised that all the guys were good acquaintances, but not as close as Diso. It was similar with Solina... Though they did spend evenings together sometimes, brightening up their free time. But they weren't bound by romantic feelings. This world was cold and cruel enough. Both Kai and Solina were well aware of their goals.
Solina might be a little angry that Kai didn't say goodbye. But it certainly wasn't something that would break her heart or affect her much.
- You're insulting Brother Diso! You're my favourite Fatty! How come I wouldn't say goodbye to you? - Teasing back, Kai said.
- Shut your mouth! I'm beginning to be glad you're leaving tomorrow! - Diso said with feigned annoyance.
- All right, all right. Let's go to the hot springs! We're supposed to get wasted! Hahaha. - Kai said with a laugh and put his arm around Diso's shoulders.
Thus, in an embrace, they headed towards Kai's room.
At dawn, Kai changed into his new, black clothes and put his snow-white hair in a bundle. Looking at himself in the mirror, he fixed everything once more and went to the door. Opening it, he turned round and said:
- See you Fatty! I hope that the next time we meet, you'll be an even more amazing person than you are now! Hehe. - Saying that, Kai walked out of his room and instantly disappeared.
Diso didn't hear his words though, as they had been drinking too much last night. Diso was now lying on the carpet, wrapped in a towel. His sleep was so deep that even if Kai had tried to wake him up, it wouldn't have worked....
Showing the letter from the Head of the Border Beast City and giving his plaque to the guard, Kai walked outside the city.
Looking ahead, he saw a very beautiful dawn. The sun was beginning to brightly illuminate the entire valley, slowly rising... The sight was very mesmerising. Kai even found it funny. It was as if it symbolised the beginning of a whole new phase of his life. Although, that's just the way it was. Now, Kai was finally going to the Shadow Sect! This was one of the promises he had made to his Master!
Taking a deep breath, Kai smiled and said:
- Well! Let's go to the Shadow Sect!
