Chapter 63 - Volume 1 Chapter 64 - Remnants of Antiquity

Looking at the colossal statue of a man standing on a huge cauldron, Kai pondered in admiration.

"This man was definitely an Alchemist! But what level of power and greatness must he have had to exalt him in such a pompous manner!"!" - Kai reasoned in his head.

Looking at the statue's face, the grandeur of the gaze and expression was palpable. It seemed to be a God who looked indifferently at all the living things under his feet... The man's hands were hidden in his sleeves which he held at chest level.

The cauldron beneath him was also majestic. Examining it, Kai saw an incredible level of carvings on it. The entire surface of this cauldron was dotted with different animals, and scenes of them devouring each other. Although it looked quite violent, there was a sense of art in this entire composition. These fierce paintings were even something appealing.

"I wonder who he is?" - Kai wondered.

He slowly approached the statue, and he wanted to feel the material. What was amazing was that not a single joint or seam was visible on the entire sculpture. It was as if it had been hewn out of a huge rock.

As he approached the foot of the mountain he placed his hand on the cauldron, feeling a slight chill and a mysterious aura from it. It was a very strange feeling.

"Fabian told me that an ancient civilization existed over thirty thousand years ago... And if this is really their ruins, then perhaps this cauldron hasn't been touched in tens of thousands of years. I could be the first person in this place in thousands of years!" - Realizing this, brought incredibly strong emotions.

Since there was no one living in the city, and the array leading here from the outside world had all sprouted crystals. It had probably been a long time since anyone had come here. So long that a new civilization had already appeared during this time.

After standing near the statue and looking at the writings, Kai decided to move on and look around. Since he didn't understand the writing, there was no point in standing there any longer.

Walking through the plaza, he began to move in a straight line. While still going down the ramps, he saw a surprisingly large building on the other side of the city. It was most likely the main building of the ruler, king, or ruling individual in this city. So it made sense to head there.

Kai opened his energy vision and looked around. He feared that there might be some hidden traps and arrays here. It was necessary to avoid them if possible. But after walking for about an hour, he didn't find any arrays except for the arrays of light. He only noticed a few remnants from the drawings of the ancient arrays.

"It seems I underestimated the amount of time this city has spent in oblivion. Probably not all the arrays here, could absorb energy indefinitely... Time erases everything." - Said Kai in his thoughts.

Thinking about it, he came to the conclusion that only large arrays were granted autonomy for a long time. The lights in the city seemed to be one array system. And communicated with the huge array on the stone placed on the ceiling. Because of this, the city was still lit up.

Walking down the street, Kai had an incredibly strange and frightening feeling. It seemed as if he had entered a ghost town. The entire city was brightly lit and illuminated, yet there was not even the tiniest hint of life in it. The architecture of the city was also very beautiful and refined.

All the houses here were quite open and multi-leveled. Since there was no wind or rain or other weather conditions underground, the upper floors of many houses were open. There were buildings with only a decorative frame and no walls at all. It seemed that maybe there had once been some paper or cloth partitions. But over thousands of years, everything not made of black stone had dissolved in time.

Walking on, Kai decided to go into a neighboring building, and examine the everyday life there.

Looking at the furnishings, everything was very beautiful, with artistic carvings on the partitions. In the corners were empty beautiful vases that seemed to have once held plants. There was also something that looked like bookshelves, but they were all completely empty. Walking into a few more houses, Kai realized that everywhere else, the pattern was about the same.

"It's been so many years, it's likely that what isn't made up of stone and sturdy materials has turned to dust..." - Thought Kai walking towards the main building.

"I really hope I find something in there at least. If that huge building belonged to that man from the statue, there must definitely be something useful in there." - Reasoned Kai.

- Damn, but I need the array upstairs... If I die here, everything else will be completely useless... - Kai said aloud.

After walking for about another hour and a half, Kai finally began to approach the huge gate that seemed to separate the ruler's domain, from the rest of the city. Kai moved very carefully, observing the surroundings and being wary of hidden dangers. The road took a long time to travel.

Looking to the right, he saw that there was a huge arch in the wall that led to the ruler's territory.

As Kai approached it, he was given a view of what was hidden behind the walls.

- God... What was going on in here? - Opening his mouth, Kai said out loud.

In front of the main building was a vast expanse, covering several kilometers in perimeter. But what surprised him the most was what exactly was in those fields.

Everything was dotted with small stone pillars... And on each of them, there was something written. The inscriptions were carved into the stone, so they had not been erased by time.

Looking at all of this, a chill ran through Kai's entire body....

"Graves!" - Exclaimed Kai in his head.

"This is definitely a cemetery... Yes there are tens of thousands of them here... Are these really all the residents of the city?!" - Realizing the terrifying fact, Kai even unconsciously took half a step back.

But here's what confused Kai the most at this moment.... Moving through the streets of the city, Kai didn't see any traces of the fight. All things remained where they were, as if no one had resisted. The everyday life of every house was in complete tranquility.

"Calm down... Perhaps it's just a tradition of this town to bury people in the same place. It's not necessarily something bad. I don't know what traditions were in ancient times..." - Kai said to himself and took a step forward.

There was a wide and long road through the cemetery that ended in a ramp leading to a huge mansion.

Looking at the mansion took Kai's breath away. It was also made of polished black stone. But this time, there were light veins visible in it. It seemed to be made of black jade.

On the walls were incredible murals of thousands of people fighting demons and other creatures. Kai was amazed that some of the people there were depicted in the air.

"They're flying! What kind of power did that army have!" - Kai thought in amazement.

The murals were incredibly large, Kai could look at them even before he started climbing up the ramps. As he walked he wondered more and more.

"What are these creatures these people were fighting? But they also have weapons in their hands and seem to have been quite intelligent... Was there once another race?" - Kai speculated with interest.

Studying the history of this world, Master Mo had told him that basically only humans lived everywhere. It was said that advanced ferocious beasts could also take on an anthropomorphic appearance and be intelligent, on par with human masters. It was also said that in the depths of the sea there were races similar to ferocious beasts that could also be intelligent. But there was definitely nothing heard of such creatures like the ones on the mural.....

"It seems that the history of our world is much more interesting than is commonly believed... In the past, there were definitely some incredible events that took place. But why has everyone forgotten about it and no trace of it remains?" - Kai thought, slowly climbing up step by step.
