Wallace's jaw tightened, but he said nothing. Lucian could feel the tension mounting between them, and while he didn't want matters to get out of hand, he couldn't deny the fact that Ronald was right.Edmund wasn't here for reconciliation, he was here for power. And no amount of fatherly love or second chances would change that.
"Father," Lucian said, stepping forward again, this time in-between Ronald and the king. He could tell Ronald was afraid, and he had the right to be. Edmund was dangerous, and not to be taken lightly. "You can't trust him. Not after everything he's done. He's playing you."
Wallace's eyes met his son's, and for the first time, Lucian saw the uncertainty flicker in them. But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared, replaced by the same stubborn determination that had ruled Wallace's decisions for as long as Lucian could remember.
