Gritting her teeth, she retrieved a roll of paper sheets from her waist pouch and unfolded them.
"My father said that he heard your family is going to move to a large city. So why not settle on Mountainside City? Here are the deeds to fifteen restaurants in the city. As long as you nod, all of them are yours. They will definitely help your Le family establish yourselves here."
Le Xaan was astounded.
Mountainside City and Gourain City were not comparable. The value of a single restaurant here was ten times that of one in Gourian City, to say the least.
But Chin Wensy offered to gift him fifteen ones! That's really generous! Even if the Le family sold up all of their properties in Gourain City, they might not be able to raise enough funds to buy all the handy fifteen restaurants!
In a large city like Mountainside, if one intended to set up a restaurant, apart from investing in the business itself, one would also have to grease the skids with a lot of money. Perhaps millions of silver coins, at least. Such a sum amounted to a large chunk of the Le family's fortune.
Now, it seemed evident to Le Xaan how wealthy the Chin family was.
He felt as though silver coins were raining down on his face. This brought home how a gigolo felt...
On top of money, the Chin family also boasted a broad range of connections. As long as Le Xaan nodded to Chin Wensy, his tonics expenses would be nothing worth mentioning, and his search for martial arts would cost him less effort.
Mountainside City was a major town in the country that stood at the border between the Northern Realm and Central Land. And its City Head was directly under the command of the royal court.
As a family that took root in the city, the Chins' power was far beyond Le Xaan's imagination.
Faced with Chin Wensy's declaration of love, Le Xaan drew a deep breath and gazed at her.
He knew that it demanded a great deal of courage for her to do so, but Chin Wensy still did it.
"Put away these things first."
Upon hearing this, Chin Wensy studied Le Xaan's face and then laid eyes on the deeds in her hand. She bit her lips before placing the deeds back into her waist pouch.
"Brother Le, you..."
"To be honest, I have feelings for you... Maybe other people see your lengthy legs as a flaw or even a birth defect, but I don't. In my view, your legs are your best feature." Eventually, Le Xaan couldn't help but pour out his heart.
As Chin Wensy heard this, she took it as Le Xaan's reassurance. However, when she gazed into his eyes, she saw frankness deep within. Immediately, she realized that Le Xaan did mean his words and that he was really fond of girls with long legs instead of those of small stature.
"But," Le Xaan's tone turned serious as he said, "Chin Wensy, do you really know what kind of man I am? We've only known each other for a few months, after all. What you have seen is my facade when I am at school. You don't really know me well. And I also don't know you well. I hate to think that my mate will be regretful when she really comes to know me someday. "
Actually, he said these words because he didn't want Chin Wensy to be involved in the occurrences that might take place around him in the future.
His life had been threatened by ghost's type of entities more than once. So, with the cheat tool, he felt inclined to grow strong. He was in no mood to reconcile himself to a regular life, which meant that his life or death would be at the mercy of others stronger. He was in the mindset to harness his own destiny in this shadowy, treacherous world.
That's what he wanted. While pursuing his growth in strength, his life would be, for sure, full of dangers. Before he fully grew up, his wife would become a weak point for him.
After Chin Wensy heard Le Xaan's words, she didn't show any disappointment on her face. Instead, her eyes sparkled brightly.
"Brother Le, you view money as insignificant. Wensy now knows she has found the right man to be in love with!" she gazed at Le Xaan with her enchanting, watery eyes.
"Since you would not accept me for the time being, Wensy will listen to you and get to know all about you. And accept all of you!"
After saying this, she covered her blushed face with both hands and ran away, embarrassed.
Le Xaan watched her leave and felt speechless.
"Are my words counterproductive?"
He shook his head and returned to the classroom.
Unnoticed, the day slipped away. All throughout the day, Wein Zikua didn't appear. Soan Jingor headed to Wein Zikua's rented place during the lunch break but came back empty-handed. Weighted down with concerns, he and Le Xaan had arranged to go looking for Wein Zikua together if he didn't show up at school tomorrow.
The next day, Le Xaan went to school barely in time as usual. When Nue Suyen started the class, Wein Zikua was nowhere to be seen in the classroom.
Nue Suyen started taking attendance. After finding Wein Zikua absent, he asked other classmates about Wein Zikua.
"My rented place was close to Wein Zikua's. Last night, his house was unlit. Perhaps he has left the city." A frail male student volunteered a piece of information.
"Has he gone back to his hometown?" Nue Suyen furrowed his brows as he fumed, "No matter what, he should have at least asked for a leave. He was behaving too willfully! I wonder whether he wants the recommendation for the Annual Examination?"
The Annual National Examination was only open to those recommended by schools. If a student's behavior was too poor, the school had the right to refuse to write a recommendation for him or her.
"The Examination is nearing. Why is Zikua acting so recklessly?" Soan Jingor muttered under his breath before rising to his feet, saying loudly, "Mister Nue, perhaps Zikua has had some urgent matters to attend to. His cousin brother is also in the city, whom I know. I will go to ask his cousin brother today."
"Well, do as you say. Since your are classmates, helping each other is commendable." Nue Suyen said as he displayed an approving expression on his face.
After this, the class unfolded as usual.
Le Xaan glanced at Soan Jingor, who knitted his brows tightly. Clearly, he was worrying about Wein Zikua. Le Xaan then thought back to the pleasure ship. He planned to ask Soan Jingor about it, which might give them some clues.
He waited till the end of school. The lessons didn't pose much difficulty for Le Xaan, a postgraduate student in his previous life.
However, to Soan Jingor, it was an entirely different story. It would be greatly challenging for him once he zoned out. After the classes, Soan Jingor was still concentrating on organizing his notes while hunching over the desk.
"Brother Soan." Le Xaan walked over and said in a low voice. "I feel something is out of place. Zikua is the most hardworking student among us. And he puts top priority to the Examination. How could he fail to show up at school for two consecutive days?"
Upon hearing this, Soan Jingor put away his pen and wore a questioning expression.
"Yes, you're right. I am going to ask his cousin brother about him."
"Let's go together. I am worried about Zikua." Le Xaan said seriously.
Soan Jingor looked at Le Xaan, surprised. Actually, during the breaks in between classes, he had asked a few close friends with both him and Wein Zikua. But all of them seemed in no mood to get involved in, denying Soan Jingor a helping hand in his search. They gave him various excuses to justify their factual callousness.
By now, Soan Jingor saw through these so-called friends and found himself somewhat cynical.
Unexpectedly, Le Xaan walked up to him and volunteered his services.
"Alright. Brother Le, please wait for me a while. I have to pack up my stuff."
"Well."
After Soan Jingor finished packing, the two of them briskly strode out of the school and waved down a horse carriage, heading for the city.
