Chereads / A Demon Myself / Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

The silhouette dashed off immediately after snatching the meat in its jaws with a notable speed.

Le Xaan was surprised and on the verge of pursuing the animal.

Suddenly, a waft of cold air blew over his back.

His eyes bulging, Le Xaan spun around and unleashed a slash with his weapon.

This maneuver was swift and forceful, honed by what seemed like a lifetime of repetition.

It was all out of his instincts!

The second creature lunged towards him mid-air, only to be met with a swift slash from Le Xaan's saber.

Through the hilt of the broad blade, Le Xaan felt a jolt of resistance, followed by the sensation of the animal being propelled away.

"Thud!"

The dark silhouette crashed on the ground, rolling around and moaning. Le Xaan discovered that it was actually a wild wolf under the illumination of the torch! Its waist now had a grievous gash, seemingly cut open by the saber.

Le Xaan had barely a moment to think and saw another two wolves springing on him from both sides.

Le Xaan's bodily instincts made him react right away.

He wielded his broad saber upon the third wolf while twisting his body backward, using its momentum to collide forcefully with the fourth wolf.

"Pang!"

After all this, he gasped for air and felt exhausted.

He was only a feeble, wealthy second-generation until recently, after all.

The two wolves flew through the air before landing on the ground.

Panting for air, Le Xaan wielded his broad blade and unleashed Tiger Anger, aiming at the wild wolf's skull.

The blade streaked through the air, and Le Xaan's wrists trembled three times at the frequency dictated by the Black Tiger Mental Scripture.

"Whoosh!"

In the midst of the wind, a ferocious tiger's roar echoed through the surroundings.

The two wolves were shivering at the roar and froze on the spot.

The head of one of the wolves tumbled down.

The blade's tip also shallowly grazed across the other wolf's neck, causing blood to pour out from the wound.

Le Xaan mustered his strength to unleash Tiger Power.

His forearm shook four times, channeling the strength of four different parts of his body to the broad saber.

Tiger Power exceeded Tiger Roar in speed, albeit with less force. Nevertheless, the neck of this wolf proved too frail to withstand the attack.

The wolf attempted to flee, but it was too late. In a flash, the even swifter blade hit its neck.

"Tee-hee."

Its head fell down onto the ground.

Le Xaan was still gasping for air.

After so many violent movements, his face was covered with a layer of sweat.

"Whoo.."

There was still the wolf that had fetched the meat and run away.

The animal now went around the boulder and glared at Le Xaan with its emerald green eyes.

"My stamina was still too weak..."

Le Xaan was a bit anxious.

His face was expressionless. He knew that, when one is conflicting with a wild animal, one mustn't step backward or display their own cowardice.

"Eh?"

He stared at the last wild wolf with round bulging eyes.

The animal studied Le Xaan for a while before slowly backing up.

Finally, the wolf disappeared into the darkness.

Only then did Le Xaan heave a breath of relief.

He had almost run out of his stamina; his arms were sore and feeble, shivering while holding the broad blade.

If the last wolf had fought with him, he was convinced that he would be the surviving one, but he might well be injured to some extent.

After confirming that the wild wolf really left, Le Xaan picked up the torch and set off to return to Gourian CIty.

After this encounter, Le Xaan gained a sense of his own prowess.

Elder Zaner had once regaled others with his youthful exploits, recounting how, upon mastering the blade style to its utmost perfection, he managed to slay three wild wolves, sustaining nothing more than a minor forearm injury in the process.

For sure, this was indeed an accomplishment worthy of reverence.

The wild wolves in this world differed vastly from those on Earth. They were bigger in size and stronger. And a pack of them typically consisted of less than five individuals.

Le Xaan finally found his way back to the city gate.

Seeing the blazing torches on the walls, he felt more or less relaxed.

He had already thrown away his blood-stained clothes and hid his weapon. Now, he took great strides towards the gate.

"Brother Xaan, listen to me, please. This is no ordinary thing.

It is rumored that in Central Land, it is called 'The Premier Wonderstone', attracting countless wealthy merchants who vied to acquire it. Yet, it ended up being lost in an accident. Recently, a fisherman in Zewa City recovered it from the depths of the Zewa River.

After so many twists and turns, it was a lengthy tale. And if not for the fact..."

"Do I appear that silly?" Le Xaan slowly waved his folding fan, grinning as he looked at the rotund man before him.

The man was named Zein Sanki, the second eldest son of the Mago Auction House's proprietor.

And Zein Sanki and Le Xaan were the closest of friends.

They had known each other since childhood and shared numerous hobbies, fostering a notably close bond.

But Zein Sanki had one major flaw: he was too money-minded.

As one of his sayings goes, even if you and I were biological brothers, we must settle our accounts first. Otherwise, our relationship is bound to be undermined.

The two of them were now seated in a private dining room in Goldfish Restaurant. Zein Sanki was now accompanied by a beautiful pink-dressed girl, who perched comfortably on his lap.

He was now grimacing while looking at Le Xaan.

"Brother Xaan, how can you say such a thing? This is something I obtained with great difficulty. And I'm specially giving you the chance to acquire it with a significant discount. But now not only do you fail to appreciate my offer, you even mock me like this."
