Outside the castle, Kael had his hand dipped into his pocket, but his eyes were on Jacquelyn. He noticed how the excitement sparkling in the girl's blue eyes turned to worry, then curiosity. The different emotions that passed through the girl's face in a second made Kael smile.
"Master... what are you going to do about the coffin?" Ballister asked, calling his master's attention.
Kael turned his face away from Jacquelyn, and he felt the bell ringing in his head again, and a scene he assumed to be part of his memory flashed in his eyes. It was fast, and Kael couldn't make out what he'd seen. It was Julia's spell, torturing him while playing with pieces of his memory. The witch was trying to make him lose his mind, but Kael was struggling to remain in control.
