Kael touched his chest, which was bleeding, and when he raised his face, he saw Jacquelyn holding a small knife with a sinister grin on her lips.
"Why have you stabbed me... my little wife?" Kael asked, but Jacquelyn remained silent, still smiling at him, her eyes crinkling at the corners. He was about to reach for Jacquelyn's neck when he heard Ballister calling him.

Ballister's voice sounded muffled in Kael's ears. He looked down at his chest again; there was no blood, and Jacquelyn's wrist was still close to his lips. The dubious smile on Jacquelyn's face was replaced with a look of concern.
