The dining room became awkwardly silent, with everyone's eyes on Kael, who had a serious look on his face. Even Jacquelyn had a hard time recovering from the shock of what she had just heard.
"How did you get into my castle?" Kael asked again, with a small frown on his face as he stared at the girl who refused to let go of him.
Jacquelyn slowly tried to move her hand away from Kael, but he held her closely. She wanted to shout at him for not recognizing the little girl he'd clearly saved and who had stayed in the castle for a few days now, but Jacquelyn decided against it.
It had taken her a lot of pleading to get Kael to join them for breakfast, and now he was embarrassing her in front of everyone by not recognizing Layla.
"M-master..." Ballister started after a long silence, "Do you not know her?"
Kael nodded, "Do you?" He asked, moving down to grab the girl by the collar and raise her up from the ground, looking at her like a foreign object.
