Kael chuckled at the girl's words but didn't say anything. She sounded so confident with her promise. Aside from Ballister, who was sired by him, she was the first human to make a promise of protection to him. She had no power, yet she wanted to do something for him. The girl was just built different, Kael thought to himself, as he continued walking with the girl on his shoulder.
"Do you not believe me?" Jacquelyn asked with a small frown on her lips. She didn't like that her words were not taken seriously. She tried to raise her head, but Kael held her down with his hand on her back. Jacquelyn stayed still, but that did not stop her from scowling. "You still don't see me as a woman, right?"
