From where Kael sat, his eyes followed Jacquelyn's movements. The girl had been so excited since arriving at the manor, and so far, she had been on her best behavior as she had promised. Kael picked up her racing heartbeat when some of the ladies in the room gathered around her, trying to talk to her. The girl was shy when she was outside, but not around him. She was herself around him and he liked it. He wondered what the girl's fate would be if, eventually, he got rid of the mark. So far, she hadn't done anything suspicious around him. She was just an ordinary girl who had gotten tangled in one of fate's wicked jokes.
