Kael's hand trembled on the book he was holding when he heard the library door close, indicating that the girl had left. He moved back, resting his back against the wall. The events of a few seconds ago were still clear as day in his mind. One minute, he was ready to get rid of the mark, and the next, he wanted to claim her whole being for himself.
When Kael saw the blood on Jacquelyn's lips, he had tried to control the urge to take it, knowing that whatever he was feeling wasn't real, but was because of the mark. But something snapped inside him when the girl tried to run. Why had she tried to run from him? The urge to chase her down blurred his mind, preventing him from thinking clearly. When he inhaled her sweet scent, so delicate and precious, soft to his senses it drove him to the edge. Before he could control what he was feeling, Kael found himself taking the girl's blood.
