After dressing up, Jacquelyn was escorted to the dining hall by the same maid who had helped her dress. She followed the maid quietly, with the only sound coming from the soft rustling of her skirt on the marble floor. Jacquelyn was about to think of Kael again and why he had suddenly disappeared when the sweet scent of pastries from the dining room teased her senses. Her stomach rumbled loudly, causing the maid to turn.
Jacquelyn chuckled awkwardly, rubbing her stomach. "I didn't eat last night," she explained.
"Or do you simply have a passion for food?" Kael's voice sounded from behind, his footsteps closing the distance. He appeared beside her, dismissing the maid with a wave of his hand.
Jacquelyn was surprised to see Kael, but her brows furrowed as she noticed his changed attire. "That's not the shirt you wore earlier," she observed.
Kael arched a brow in subtle confusion. "Earlier, when?" he asked with an innocent tone.
